After disappointing experiences at almost every course within driving range of Pasadena, I had low expectations for my trip to Rustic Canyon. How refreshing it was to not only start on time, but actually teed off a few minutes early for a 10:00 am tee time on a Sunday. On the first tee, we had plenty of space from the group in front of us, and did not have to wait on them the entire day. Also because there was adequate time between tee times, we never felt rushed by the group behind us, and it didnt appear they ever had to wait on us to finish. The course was in much better condition that I was expecting given the lack of rain. Everyone is the group mentioned how the greens were in excellent shape. If there were any areas for improvement, I would say raking of the greenside bunkers. I dont really mind if the waste bunkers or fairway bunkers are hard packed, but a few of the greenside bunkers were hard to escape from as they were not very soft. After this experience I am willing to drive an hour each way and pay the $80 to play Rustic Canyon again. I really hope they continue to run the course in the same manor, and not try to jam on way to many groups like all of the other courses around.

Firstly, this is a well designed course. However, this is not a very welcoming place. We were just harassed by the marshall on 4 different occassions, until I finally argued with his intensity for us to "keep up" after telling me that "theyd" kick us off the course. Note, we were a foursome of 8-16 handicappers and played at a 4.5 hr pace. My advice if you do go out there: -do heed the difficulty of the course. Unless you are a 8 or better, dont play from the blues. -use a cart. (this was really why we were indeed not catching the group in front of us). The course is flat enough to walk, but is not designed in a way that is accommodating to walkers and has a lot of distance between greens and tee boxes. -greens are hard in many ways. a lot of bounce and roll-out, so you can play there extended fringe area, usually trying to land the ball 10-20 yds short of the pin placement. take time to study, lots of subtle nuance in the breaks with the hills not affecting the greens in a similar fashion. (of course, dont take too long, or a cranky old fart will threaten removing you from the course).

Terrific Course. A true desert style links test. The greens and the surrounding fringe (which is essentially an extension of the green) is very smooth. But be warned, the greens are pretty fast. The course was is pretty good shape for such a popular course. The pace of play of OK (4.5), but thats just because it was black friday and the group in front of us was pretty slow. One of the top public courses in socal for sure and will absolutely come back again.

I play every sat here unless Im out of town. Its actually a 5 star course as far as layout and normal conditioning with one big exception. Since I walk with a push cart I always hate the path from each tee box to the fairway. They REALLY need to smooth out a walker path on each hole!! That inexpensive improvement would make the entire experience much better. Lets go guys! It wont cost much at all. Jeff Harris

because the course was really different then the one reviewed here by others. We played Moorpark CC first it was great, then played here (Rustic). Very slow pace of play, putting green was closed, few water stops on the course, no beverage cart. Turned into a long hot day, will not be back with all the other courses in the area. One good note, very nice snack bar w a good staff.

Staff are under training, ill mannered and unprofessional. Called several times to arrange a golf day for clients and wanted to pay in advanced. Was told to call back - then transferred - then eventually talked to a manager whom did not want to take information, just told to call back day of. I highly encourage business meetings not be done here.

The recent wet winter has really helped Rustic. Course is in better shape than Ive seen it in years, and the greens were firm and fast. This is what golf should be, folks. For the money, you just cant get much better for a public track than Rustic. I paid $40 to play a practice round recently, and thats a great value for as fun a track as Rustic.

Best value In California!!! Awesome layout. Very fair yet challenging. If you play well you can score, if you are off it will eat you up. Greens are challenging. Remember everything breaks toward the entrance of the club. Love love this coarse!!!

Not my style of course at all. Hot, no trees, ball rolls on for days into hazards. Granted, a skilled player could enjoy these challenges, but as Im not, I didnt. Further, our cart was missing the GPS unit although we had paid for it.

This course looks easy and straightforward. It isnt. This course will eat you up if you make a mistake or dont think through the hole. The greens were well-maintained. It felt like the course could have utilized elevation a bit more.

awful staff, rude, cursed at me. asked to speak to a manager, they refused to make one available to me. paid 74 dollars to golf the course, ended up not golfing and being insulted.

Best Value in the area...can be windy at times which really makes it tough to score. True Links style course that is fair but challenging ...especially the GREENS!

Fairways rocks and sand; no signs for holes or hole numbers or map of the course. All holes look the same. Its cheap but you get what you pay for.

Great golf course if youre a serious golfer to practice on: fairways are pristine, greens are fairly big, and a long walk.
