I am a limo driver who has been in the business for about ten years .I also plan wine tours to Amador county for groups from 6 to 15 people at a time. I usually make all the appointments for our clients before hand for the wineries that have the best feedback from my own individual clients. Villa Toscano wine has always been a 1 on a scale of 1-10. So the cases of wine my clients put in the trunk are not from Villa Toscano. I assume that their wine isn’t up to par with the rest of the Amador region. But I still take my clients there. Why? Because some of our clients don’t bring a picnic lunch so I suggest Villa because of their food. But now as of Aug 19, 2009 they want to charge limo groups exclusively, $15.00 per person prior to booking the appointment ,that doesn’t even go toward the purchase of wine. I think this may also be a legal issue because they single out people by the way they choose to arrive at the winery. They have also told me personally that limo customers are always drunk and don’t buy anything. False!!! They buy the food because they are hungry but when they taste the wine they just don’t like it as much as the less commercial association wines from Amador. I will suggest that my customers go to the local delis and restaurants in Plymouth or pack a nice picnic lunch. Nice knowing you Villa Toscano I hope your wine will someday be as good as the association’s wine that you choose not to be a part of.

We arrived at 5:16 pm today and we were greeted by a young woman who opened the door for us as we walked up. We purchased 8 tasting flights for $40. When Carrie said they were closing in 10 minutes we asked if she could stay open a little longer - and tipped her an extra $40. Over the next six minutes a very rude young woman kept telling Carrie she had to wrap it up and close, even though one of us just spent $50 on a purse in their gift shop. She put the wines away and said we needed to taste all that we could before 5:30. It was as if the doors were on auto-lock like the place was a bank... And an older woman also had no tolerance for our presence as she emptied the register - which kept us from buying anything else. At 5:29 they asked all of us to leave and one of our guests slipped into the restroom. As she exited into the lobby, to their surprise, she caught the rude young woman refer to our group with derogatory language. We had just spent $300 at Helwig where Lewis stayed open an extra 30 mins late so we could buy a case and a club membership. I understand that its a Tuesday night and everyone has a closing time... But we were trying to spend money and enjoy their products. Worst customer experience ever, Ill never go back. And we were happy to spend another $300 down the street at the Amador Store on wine and food. Go to Helwig. The wine is better. The view is better. The people are better.

I like Villa Toscano. They have a wide assortment of varietals available so everyone should find something that they like. The prices are very reasonable for what you get and their wine is great for informal occasions or as a "daily drinker" for lack of a better term. The pricing for the flights gets you A LOT of samples. The place is beautiful and the food is good. I have been to almost every winery in Amador, and their wine is pretty much on par with the majority of the wineries there. Is this place Turley Vineyards? No it is not, but for a decent red or white, you cant go wrong here. I am especially fond of their zins. Now for some of the bad reviews, yes, they do have hours of operation, as people have families to go home to, so it would be understandable that they would be closing AT THEIR POSTED CLOSING TIME... it is simply bad taste and disrespectful to walk into a place 10 minutes before closing and demand them to stay open later for you... and throw money at them to get your way.... right? Also, as most of us know, limos are quite annoying at wineries, so I applaud them in charging per head. Besides, you pay for the tasting anyways, if you are not a wine club member, and the $15 goes a very long way in what you are able to taste. Anyways, limos being deterred from going there is a +10 in my book of checking this place out.

Fantastic wines, great atmosphere, friendly service and . . . GREAT WINES! As an enologist/sales rep for a national beverage brokerage firm, I travel all over WA/OR/ID/CA and am intimately familiar with the wineries in these states, their processes, and their staff. Villa is one of my favorites! From the wine-maker, to the cellar master, to the sales associates in the tasting room, to the grounds keeper who pulled me out of the mud when I parked a little too far into a row, I have been impressed with this winery and always find an excuse to visit when Im in the area. Their wine is among my favorite. Whether you want a bold, fruity Zin, a sophisticated Cab or a delicious Viognier you wont be disappointed. If youre in Sacramento, spend the forty minutes it will take you to reach Villa Toscano and enjoy a wonderful afternoon, sipping some of CAs best wine!

Had been to winery with friends for their fantastic Friday buffets. Decided this time to join the Wine Club. Their Pinot Grigio was a delight. Their tomato/basil bread at the buffet lunch was so good I went in to the deli and got a loaf to take home.

I had a great time wine tasting with my family here a few months back, we really enjoyed the large tasting menu as well as the futures. These wines really are delicious, I will be needing to restock soon.
