If you feel like channeling your inner cannibal and inner masochist in tandem, go watch cute, philosophizing, anthropomorphized food getting slaughtered in "Sausage Party" at Cinema 16... and have some hot dogs or popcorn or wine. Thats all well and good but if youre getting up to go to the loo during the movie, and you want to disturb the audience as little as possible, take a right to exit the row, NOT LEFT! For the love of God, not left, like I did. That cinema has an unfortunate design: you would think that, from the middle of a row - btw. row D is still a bit too close to the screen - you would be able to bypass all the elongated chairs and pairs of toes in any direction and exit the cinema room, right? WRONG! Channel your inner Beyonce and say with me: "To the right, to the right" Otherwise youll be walking in the dark for a loong time, inadvertently brushing toes and apologizing, tiptoeing, hunching forward and "Clarissing" for the exit like in Silence of Lambs. Btw: some floor guiding lights/signs? Other than that, I love stretching my legs and having wine/beer at the movies because alcohol more often than not makes my inner film critic shut the F up and thoroughly enjoy a night at the movies. ...but lately, it seems like all cinemas/movies could really use an open bar... or maybe its just me... Happy exception, Sausage Party was actually the most enjoyable comedy in a long time.

Comparing Century 16 Mountain View to AMC Mercado for friends: 1) I would much rather see the movie at the AMC Mercado, because: a) Mercado is closer to my house b) Mercado parking is less ugly c) the walk into the Mercado auditorium and to seats is much easier (no steep slope) d) at Mercado we will probably get to choose IMAX or IMAX 3D (I prefer 3D) e) I prefer the Mercado seating arrangement (from Wikipedia: "The increased resolution allows the audience to be much closer to the screen; typically all rows are within one screen height; conventional theatre seating runs 8 to 12 screen heights. Also, the rows of seats are set at a steep angle (up to 30° in some domed theatres) so that the audience is facing the screen directly." f) the Cinemark popcorn buckets are a *stupid* maximally-tippable shape g) the Mercado popcorn tastes fresher h) the Cinemark seats are cute, but not much more comfortable, and annoying to adjust i) its a nuisance having to reserve seats in advance (have we *ever* not been able to get seats?) j) IMO, the Mercado IMAX screen is larger than the Cinemark XD screen k) The beverage holders at Cinemark are harder to reach l) I actually prefer having the seats closer together Am I getting through? Can we *please* go to Mercado?

Ive been going to the Century 16 in Mountain View since it was first opened, back in the early 80s. Its never been a top-tier movie going experience—the sound systems are just so-so, the film stock is usually scratched up after a couple of days run—but until recently, the theatre was clean, the employees usually friendly, the staffing levels adequate, and the experience pleasant. But now that Cinemark has taken over from Century Theatres, things are getting pretty grim. Most of the new employees (and there are usually too few of them) are slow-moving and indifferent. Management is virtually invisible. Go to the first show of the day, and youre likely to get cold, day-old popcorn. And check your soda, because its likely to have little or no flavor. Bring a towel, because the restrooms are likely to be out of paper towels. And carry earplugs, because from the moment you walk into the lobby until the previews roll, youll be bombarded with advertisements. All this has happened under Cinemarks ownership. I still go to the Century 16 because its convenient, but when I want a real night out at the movies, I drive to the Century 20 Redwood City or the AMC Theatres in Santa Clara or Cupertino.

Two years ago I would have given this movie theater the whole five stars. Sure, it was a little worn down and the food at theaters is always expensive, but the staff were helpful, the seats comfortable, and most importantly movies would usually only sell out on opening night. I actually could buy a ticket 5 minutes before the movie, can you imagine that? Now, I just always end up annoyed. If you are one of the people that plans to go to the movie like a week in advance, great! If you are like me and dont plan out your entire week on Monday, then honestly just skip Century and go to AMC. The new seats are nice but so not worth the hassle it is to actually watch a freaking movie.It also turns out to be more expensive because buying the tickets online cost more. After a year of going to Century and hearing, "Sorry were sold out," I just go to AMC. I have to plan out practically all other parts of my life; it would be nice to just go to the movie, ya know?

We recently took our kids and their friends to the see the Hannah Montana 3D movie. The theater had the most poor sound quality that Ive ever heard in the Bay area. What was particularly frustrating was that we were watching this great movie about a music concert tour - the kids just love the songs but the sound quality left them feeling cheated. There was no surround sound at all and the dialogues were so muffled. I bought the tickets online at Fandango and have already complained to them. Surprisingly, I couldnt find the theaters own website to lodge a complaint. If any of you know about it or have had similar experience, please do write to me at kalrasanjay [at] gmail [dot] com Meanwhile, now that they have extended the Hannah Montana movie for another week, my advice is to avoid this theater - maybe try Regal in Dublin.

1. Reserved seating 2. LUXURY LOUNGER SEATS If that doesnt really convince you, then..... you dont even have to pay more for comfortable seating! Its honestly an awesome deal because comfort is a huge factor for me when it comes to watching movies and this theatre has made major improvements. The seats are awesome (they recline back) and they make me feel like Im watching a movie at home. I almost want to bring a blanket with me. The theatre feels new since they did major renovations to it so everything is cleaner and newer. All the theaters have the new seating and you can also reserve seats. This is great because you dont have to show up hours before the movie fighting to have a good seat because you can just reserve it online and ahead of time. Parking can be a little of a pain but Ill deal with it for the seats.

I flat out refused to go to a movie anywhere else! This one has the leather reclining seats. They also allow you to choose your seat prior to your movie. If you get your tickets online, you can choose them well in advance. This will allow you to show up at the theater 5 minutes before your movie, grab a glass of wine or beer at the bar and front and head to your seat knowing that you will have the perfect spot to enjoy your movie! They also have a full service Starbucks counter that serves coffee and latte drinks exactly as you would expect to find across the street at the Starbucks and at the price you would expect to find. You would think that a movie ticket at this theater would cost more than at another one that does not have all of this but curiously they may actually be cheaper than some.
