Yesterday, my son celebrated his 11th birthday with his best friends at El Capitan Theatre. We watched the latest Narnia movie as VIPs (paid $25 each) and sat in the orchestra section (row J center). I chose this row well in advance because I didnt want to be too close or too far away. It was just right although 1-2 rows in front of J would have been fine.. As VIPs, we did not wait in a line for even 1 minute for either entry to the theatre or for VIP concessions (as promised). The boys each received a special popcorn keepsake bucket. The theater and production were amazing. To start the show, an organist played center stage on an organ covered with Narnia props. The sides of the theater were also completely decked out with green vines on gold statues - very elaborately decorated. Then a prince appeared on the stage followed with confetti flying from the ceiling to get the party started. The quality of the movie, both picture and sound, was outstanding. After the show, we got to see the props downstairs which did feel a little rushed. We should have waited a few minutes to avoid the crowds. 1 word of caution: allow 20 extra minutes to locate parking. I paid $10 flat rate about 2 blocks past El Capitan. We had to walk past the Hollyweirdos so I wouldnt recommend this place at night when it is dark. Also, we went to McDonalds after the show. The McDonalds was fully staffed with a security guard. Yes, a guard. There are shady people right outside the McDonalds - a bit scary for chidren and woman (me!). Again, avoid this place when dark. I highly recommend spending the extra $ for the VIP section. It was well worth $25. Accordingly, I have already purchased tickets for Wall E!

Love the El Capitan! This place definitely brings out your inner kid. Been here numerous times for all Disney shows. I believe I was here for The Lion King, The Avengers private screening, a few other shows and just this past Monday, Frozen singalong. Coming here via Hollywood Blvd can be always a little bit of a pain due to the tourists and the traffic. However, it is all worth it once you get to the parking lot at Hollywood and Highland (By Orange and Hollywood) Yes, you can get it validated at the theatre (have it scanned pass the entrance) and pay $2 for 4 hour parking at the machine inside the garage. The theatre itself has bathrooms at upstairs and downstairs but I think non on the main level if my memory serves me right. The bottom level also have some picture taking opportunities at times so dont miss out. The top level has pictures from all the premier openings. Sometimes when you check in via Yelp, you can score a free bag here from whatever Disney shows they have. I think I have a "dinosaur" bag but its sitting in the closet. The upper level near the front does not disappoint. Its actually my favorite spot in the theatre. The organ player doesnt always show up every showing, but its a treat when he is. Hollywood and Highland Red line arrives across the street if you prefer mass transit. Theres no really great restaurants nearby except for CPK and HardRock which I consider decent .We opted for going to Oinkster on Vine instead. Goldstar has tickets for here, but just note due to the fees, its not always cheaper.

so this theatre has a tremendous history, its architecture is something of the past that just leaves you in wonder, from the carpeting to the beautiful pillars and layout. Its magnificent place to be in. So why 1 star you may ask? Well here lays the problem. Its the one thing that is consequently overlooked - the one thing that is just short of good. The seats, the seats in this place are extremely horrible. They are completely uncomfortable. They are ancient - and with the ticket prices they charge for the novelty of going to watch a Disney movie release at such a land mark of a place - the seats are the one thing that probably keep me, and many other patrons from coming back. They are old, rickety, narrow, short knee room, really low, and very uncomfortable. its impossible to endorse a movie watching experience at a movie theatre - specially with the asking prices they charge for film, when the seats are completely obsolete in these days and times, it makes no sense. After one visit - there is no reason to go back. No matter how great the movie might be, or how nostalgic the theatre heritage is. NEXT!

I had a chance to see the iconic El Capitan during a recent trip to LA for the Red Carpet Premiere of Petes Dragon. I love visiting old theaters and was impressed by all the work that was done to restore the theatre to its original state. It is beautiful and easy to imagine the crowds showing up for live theater. They show one movie for several weeks and have been premiering Disney movies since 1991. Before the movie starts you are treated to music form Ethel (the organ.) This is such a fun unique way to wait for the movie to start and so much better than ads like at other theaters. The staff was incredibly friendly and worked hard to make sure everyone was where they were supposed to be. The next day we were even treated to a special behind the scenes tour. We even go to check out the Hall of Fame which is filled with pictures of stars and events. This is a fantastic place to see a movie and I cant wait till I get back to LA to see a movie here again.

Tonight I went to see Frozen sing a long. I didnt know what to expect. While walking in to the theater, they had a person playing the organ live! The songs were all Disney songs and set the fun mood!Elsa came out before the movie and made it snow!!! The movie started and had the lyrics to every song and a "bouncing" snowflake to guide the audience through the sangs, it was so fun. Olaf has a song about summer in the Frozen movie, and during that song, attendants came out with beach balls for everyone to bounce around, when the song was over the beach balls were rounded back up. It was such an amazing time, and to top it off, Olaf came out after the movie , to be followed by another short movie that was completely adorable! This movie theater is clean, the staff is on point, the experience is truly in line with the Disney theme of MAGICAL!!! LOVE IT ! Dont forget to exit in to the Ghirardelli shop and grab some sweets to go or a banana split...MMMMMM.

My first visit to El Capitan was when I was a kid and my cousin took me to watch Pocahontas :) She even bought me a commemorative pin that had El Capitans name and Pocahontas picture on it. Such nostalgia! Nowadays I always keep up with this theaters showings since I love their gallery shows downstairs that give the visit extra oomph. I also dress up sometimes depending on the movie theme. Ive watched: - Iron Man 3 3D - The Wind Rises (Hayao Miyazakis last film in Japanese audio) - The Little Mermaid (Dressed up as Nerdy Ariel) - Nightmare Before Christmas (Dressed up as Wednesday Addams Sally) I had VIP seats for Iron Man 3D but I dont mind the general seating at all as I prefer the balcony area. Overall a beautiful and nostalgic setting to enjoy specific movies :) Cheap $2 parking with validation at Hollywood and Highland too! Or take the Red Line Metro. Love this theater!
