Towering stair cases, polished impeccable wooden flooring and a large chandelier accompanied by clean spacious theater I cannot say enough about how much I loved the Angelika. I went with two friends to see "Before Midnight" and I was extremely pleased with the experience. The wide variety of craft beers was impressive including two options of cider and several bottles of wine. I did not sample the food but I have to say the oatmeal stout beer I had was fantastic. The only bad part of the experience was the ticket booth attendant. I arrived earlier than my companions and went inside to buy a ticket. At the Angelika they have you select your seats which I dont know if they stick to but under duress I purchased all three tickets afraid that we wouldnt be able to sit together otherwise. (I also came on a Tuesday which is a $9 dollar student day so that was a nice plus.) I told the attendant that I wanted three tickets for their 9 oclock showing. Without realizing it the ticket attendant had selected the earlier 7 oclock showing as it was 6:30 and that was the more logical time. I soon realized after I had stepped out of the theater to wait for my friends that the tickets were for the wrong time. I went back inside to speak with the employee and explained that I meant to get tickets for the 9 oclock showing not the one I ended up with. He rolled his eyes sighed and then said in a rude tone that I had asked for the 7 oclock in a mutter which made me upset. When his manager came over to help correct the mistake he then thrust a clipboard at me demanding I sign it to confirm the mistake. Aside from that hiccup I think even at the normal $13 dollar price it is a great facility for the big comfortable chairs, arm rests, huge screens and the level of cleanliness was outstanding.

Mosaic has been growing for some time now. Love the various shops, stores, and restaurants, including but not limited to Dolcezza Gelato, Capital Teas, Taylor Gourmet, Matchbox, Anthropologie, Langford Market, etc. Angelika is such an awesome movie theater. The decor is beautiful; with its glass windows, an ornate chandelier, it resembles an art gallery (which is why I guess its called an arthouse!) Very sleek and upscale, a nice change to the common AMC theaters in the area. When you buy your tickets, you can choose your seats. No more having to go in early and save seats. There are two concession stands, one in the lobby and one upstairs, where you can purchase gourmet popcorn and other snacks. On the third level, theres a cafe/lounge/bar. Their menu consists of appetizers, salads, desserts, pastries, espresso drinks, and beer and wine pairings. You can take beers/wine/alcohol into the theater with you! How cool is that? There are eight cinema auditoriums, each with awesome digital and sound technology and comfy seats. Lat year, Angelika aired live viewings of the Walking Dead on Sunday nights. For free! Tickets were first-come, first-serve, but this was such a great thing! Not sure if they offer that anymore, but I know that they still do other events. For example, theyll be playing classic Christmas movies like Its A Wonderful Life. They also do a series of "After Hours" screenings. A stylish, chic theater, Angelika is the pièce de résistance of Mosaic.

UPDATE 7-25-16: After reaching out to management, they were very apologetic and responsive so I bumped the rating up from 2 stars to three stars. Quote from email response, "I want to apologize for the experience you had here at our theater regarding our trailers. We have replaced the trailer immediately for something else." If we dont find more adult rated trailers before more kid friendly movies in the future we will increase the rating again. We really want to support this movie theater because we like the nicer decor, restaurant like food and beverage options, and perfect location in the middle of numerous restaurants and shops. We have even tried some non-mainstream movies like Hunt for the Wilderpeople and really enjoyed them. However, they seem to not monitor or control the previews shown before the movies very well. We went to see what appeared to be a family friendly PG-13 movie (Hunt for Wilderpeople). Unfortunately, they allowed two very non family friendly previews to be played before this movie. One, was a rated R, highly sexualized and crude movie that I think was supposed to be a comedy but honestly stopped paying attention and started feeling bad for all the parents sitting with their children. Then another was for the TV series The Strain with gruesome images. If parents wanted their children exposed to that garbage, they would take them to rated R movies, not PG-13.

This is a great theater that tends to select high quality material and limited release films. They also have fun and campy midnight movies on the weekends, free screenings of popular shows like The Walking Dead. The food in the cafe downstairs is much better than normal theater food with great sandwiches and baked goods. The concessions on the second floor are also above average, but not as much so. Beer is available on tap on the first and third floors and can be brought into the theaters. The Mosaic plaza they are in is great and growing as well, with many food and some shopping options. Tickets are sold with assigned seating and I am addicted to this feature! So convenient. Everything is always very clean and comfortable. My only "complaint" is that the work culture does not seem quite as friendly as the E Street Landmark, where I always went before the Angelika opened. Its not really a problem with the staff as people and Im probably spoiled by the other theater. I still attend a show the Angelika almost every week. As a side note, the problems with ticketing mentioned in an earlier review seem to have been fixed, I have been going here for months and have not seen any foot traffic issues and tickets are purchased on the first floor before ascending the escalator, elevator, or stairs.

Date night excursions.... Looking for a change of scenery but want to stay local, then check out the Mosaic district in Fairfax, VA. This area is filled with vibrant people busy shopping, checking out a movie at the boutique theater, Angelika Film Center and Cafe, or grabbing a delicious bite to eat. When visiting the Mosaic district you must check out a movie and have a glass of wine or beer while enjoying the show. I say skip the popcorn and indulge in the hotdog. Not sure if I was very hungry or the hotdog was just so damn good. The seats are comfy and the atmosphere is cozy, modern and trendy. A new theater favorite. Afterwards take a walk through the lawn and head over to one of the best restaurants in town, True Food Kitchen. Step out of your box and get ready for a medeterranian cuisine, food adventure. The food didnt disappoint and our waiter was great. Loved how he aimed to please and made all of our request come true. The energy was high. The restaurant was busy and booming. The wait for a table wasnt long which is always an added bonus. We will definitely be returning soon. Giving them a 1 star is being generous! My complain is not about cleanliness, the quality of the movie, comfort of the seats, or even the employees! My issue is with the prices they are now charging for Food and alcoholic beverages. I ordered a sandwich, and a glass of Cabernet and paid $27.56 for it!! At first I didnt think much of it, paid my bill, and went to watch my movie. After the movie, looking at my receipt, I realized that they charged me $15 for a glass of Wine! $15 for a GLASS OF WINE?!?! Its bad enough that we pay HIGH prices for popcorn, coke, and other little things......but COME ON!! $15 is highway robbery and just UNETHICAL!! If I had realized thats how much a glass of wine (a cheap low quality wine for that matter too) would have cost me, I would have never ordered one! One would never expect to pay such HIGH prices for a glass of wine, at a MOVIE THEATER!! This is just wrong! I understand that we all have a choice for buying or not buying. However, we as consumers must voice our concern and dissatisfaction. This is the only way a business will realize that they cannot screw people like this if they have any hopes of staying in business! This is wrong and UNETHICAL! And this business cannot possible justify high prices based on high overhead!!
