I went into the store to buy a bird toy and saw a bird that was all bloody. One of the small parrots they had left on top of the cockatiel cage has bitten off the tip of the cockatiels toe. This poor little birds toe was hanging off its foot and it was bleeding everywhere. This bird needed immediate medical attention from a vet, as even small amounts of blood loss in this type of animal can kill it. I informed a staff member who got the owner. The owner then took his sweet time coming over. Grabbed the bird and put it in a cage with no perches. I pointed out how its toe was hanging off and he told me i was wrong. I was standing there staring at it for 5 minutes waiting for him,& Ive also owned cockatiels for 18 years! So I knew what I was talking about, I pointed it out and he admitted then that he saw it too. Well, he simply told the staff to put the cockatiel in the back and to call him if the bleeding didnt stop in 30 minutes. Well, in 30 minutes at the rate that bird was bleeding it would most likely be dead. Even if it lived it was in pain and needed attention from a vet. At the very least they should have put something on its toe to stop the bleeding, they even sell such a product in the store and he should know that. He did not care one little bit, he is a monster!!! So I called animal control and they went out to have a chat with him. So if you see this store/man abusing animals please contact animal control and do the same. Maybe if enough people report him and he gets enough citation the animals will receive better care. Also, please dont buy from a store that treats their animals this way. If enough people stop coming in maybe he will take it seriously, the way he should! I dont care where they move or how they set up their stuff they still dont take good care of their birds. I swear every time I go into their store and see poor sweet Romeo. Hes the large bird that says Hello and Hi. He is in a cage way too small for him and from the way he gets so excited he never gets attention or snuggles or petting from a darn one of the people that work there. Someone needs to take him and give him the loving home he deserves!!! Also all the medium sized birds get bad set ups as well. The birds are important too and you should treat them better.

I dont have any pets of my own, but my mother has a Yorkie and a Maltese that she takes there to get groomed at the Bark Avenue Salon. I feel that their prices are fair and the dogs definitely look sharp after they are groomed. It usually takes around 3 hours until they are finished, which isnt bad. That being said, I had a less than pleasant experience when dropping the dogs off for my mother today. I arrived around 10 minutes early (better early than late, right?) to find that the groomer wasnt there yet (turns out we were the 1st appointment of the day, which I didnt know). I waited patiently until she arrived, at which time she said "Good morning, or afternoon, or whatever" in a sarcastic tone of voice. I apologized for being slightly early, to which she replied "Its fine, Im just not ready for you, like at all." She was very snarky. I felt she was very unprofessional in her attitude. I will give her the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe she was having a bad morning. But next time (Jessie or Ashley, Im not sure which this one was), leave your attitude at the door. It only took this one experience to make me think differently of Bark Avenue Salon.

We love coming to this place! Jim is very knowledgeable about fish, ponds (starting and maintaining), reptiles, and all the animals he carries. Great selection of food, toys, treats, fish, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. You can pick up and play with most of the animals there (which is wonderful for socializing them while "entertaining" you and your children), and Ive often likened it to a petting zoo. :-) It reminds me of a beloved pet shop that had this kind of set-up and atmosphere in the Chicagoland area. :-) Id highly recommend visiting and shopping in this pet store.

Loved this place when I lived near by a few years back. Been meaning to review you on here! You had a Tessalata Eel a few years (3-4) back that I still dream of having in my home. (In my dream his name is Drexl) I remember you having such a great selection of tropical and freshwater fish. Will definitely stop back in next time Im in Eau Claire on business!

Healthy animals, great atmosphere, knowledgeable friendly staff. Nice home town feel, not many independent places like it left. Fish selection is the best in the area. Many store pets that roam the store, dog, cats, and iguanas. Great place to take kids to see, learn about and touch the animals.

The owner in this store really seemed to care deeply about every animal in this store. Im not too sure about the comment about the bleeding bird, because I personally know the owner, and I know he loves all of the animals he has in his store. Keep up the good work tropic waters !

Co-habbing reptiles with frogs and very skinny leopard geckos. Very disgusted and disappointed as people gave me quite the good reviews about this place. The reptiles are also CRAZY priced!! Go to an expo if you want healthy reptiles from responsible breeders fairly priced.

I have 4 pet rats and got 3 of them from Tropic Waters. They treat their animals much better than the other pretty stores in town and their prices are very reasonable. Knowledgeable staff makes choosing the right pet or pet supplies a breeze.

The condition of the animals/ creatures in this store is horrible. The employees are extremely disrespectful. Do not spend your money at this place. This is a warning to all who will listen stay away!!!!!

Their larger birds are in cages much too small for their size. The smaller birds are often overcrowded. The prices on their bettas are waaaaay high. However, they have a big selection of fish.

I got a guinea pig here in Jan 2016 and almost a year later he is doing well. Also they have a customer loyalty program. I go here a lot.

Staff are somewhat friendly. Not at all knowledgeable of the animals. I suppose its just a minimum wage job so no skills needed.
