To paraphrase what even the OBT staff themselves say: If you go to the first couple of weeks of a skit, the show is going to be sub par. Not sure if it is short rehearsal times due to the schedules they keep for their shows or just not being used to the new skit, but it takes them a few times to get into the swing of it. With that said, its obvious that if you want to get the most out of it, you should go half way through, or about a month to a month and a half after they start showing a certain skit. By this point they are comfortable with the script and the rest of the staff(sound effects, etc.) are more practiced as well. Now then, if you want the most unrestricted improv from the skit, go the last couple of weeks. They drop a few constraints in the last showings of a skit and really let loose. At this point the improv is a little more adult oriented(not outright sexual or explicit but definitely not something the kids will/should understand). Aside from that, most of my complaints actually comes from the audience. Sometimes the hecklers can get really bad and they never get the hint when the actors pretty much straight up tell them to shut the heck up. Tickets are expensive as some others have pointed out but running a theater isnt cheap and because they keep the concessions cheap(except for the red vines!) they have to make up for that through ticket sales. Seriously though, the concessions are cheap. $1 for almost everything.

My wife and I have a tradition of going to improv shows together. We went to OBT this year to celebrate our anniversary and had a great time at the Laughing Stock show. The jokes are (for the most part) very family friendly but the comics are so talented at building on the suggestions of the audience and its a riot. If you liked the TV show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" youll love Laughing Stock. In addition, they got us up on stage participating and thanked us for celebrating there by giving us a two-for-one pass at the end of the show. Really made our special night even better!

Laughing Stock (their improv comedy shows) are generally hilarious. My friends and I used to go once a month. Because its improv, there are nights that arent as funny as others, so it can be catch and miss (check their Facebook for that nights actors - Logan is the best). Ive only been to one of their regular shows and honestly hated it. We left at intermission due to adult humor that wasnt very funny. Although they try to keep the improv shows family-friendly, it can at times get out of hand and can have quick spouts of adult humor.

I bought a season pass and they always managed to seat me in the first few rows. I felt like a VIP. They never messed up times and schedules either, my seat was where it was supposed to be. And the actors are so funny, they should be on Saturday Night Live. And they write their own scripts. Theres a nice concessions stand. And the atmosphere of the theater is so antique and Victorian, I love the velvet covered lounger in the basement and hanging crystal chandelier. Yes!

This is a place for lots of fun. Comedy Shows that change every so often. Things like "Utahoma" which had me laughing. They are not above making jokes about most anything and it is all done in fun. There is also an Improv group. If you live in the south end of the Salt Lake Valley the TRAX Blue line lets you off at Galivan Center stop and the theatre is on the west side of the street next to Barbacoa. Go early have dinner, then go next door for a great show.

I saw the Wicked Wizard of Ahhs. I felt like I was at an elementary school play sometimes. The audio engineer in that theater should just be fired (in case you were wondering). Had to strain to hear anything due to crappy sound. The acting was ok, but I agree with some of the other users, it was WAY more expensive than it should be. I could justify $5. I have heard the improv shows are better. It may be worth a try.

I absolutely love the OBT!!! There hasnt been a performance by them that I didnt enjoy and i have been to every play for four years! Ive only been to about three of the Laughing Stock improv shows, only because they run a bit late but I understand why, and those were fantastic. So OBT please keep doing what you are doing I love you! I guess you could say Ive got OBT Fever CATCH IT!!! (they do that during every show)

Its a different show every time you go and is extremely funny. Ive forgotten what a Saturday night date is like without a finale of a great show of Laughing Stock. Every night is different so going frequently has been no issue, its never the same and I laugh just as hard each time. Once in awhile you get a group of actors with an incredible chemistry and you almost pee your pants because it is so funny.

Went to their Saturday night comedy improv show. I havent laughed so hard and so long in ages. The comedians were all very quick-witted and irreverent (but never offensive). This is a great place for a birthday celebration - if you tell the box office the name of the birthday guy or gal, they will bring that person on stage for a little good-natured (and funny) humiliation!

They seem like really nice people. They have the best intent. The audience really loves them, but I believe the audience was about 99.9 percent Mormon. This is definitely a theater establishment made just for Mormons. I got the perception that all the actors were Mormon, and 100% of the jokes definitely are. I did not enjoy it, but a good Mormon family would love it.

I cant remember the last time I had so much fun! My belly hurts from laughing & my face hurts from smiling. The cast was amazing! The improve was the best time I have had at a show. We went to get my son extra credit for his theatre class in school, but we will go back again for the entertainment. Excellent job & thank you to OBT for exceeding our expectations!

Im specifically reviewing the improv that we saw here because it was hilarious. I cant speak to the quality of any of the other shows, but laughing stock killed it. The theater itself was clean enough and has a cool from-a-different-era feeling to it. Go see laughing stock though, those guys kill it.

Saw "Sort of the Rings" here and the first half was okay. After that it wasnt entertaining enough to sustain another act and really dragged on. Some of the actors had some great talent, but performance was marred by fair amount of suggestive, off-color humor despite its claim of "family friendly".

I absolutely loved it here! I went for the first time recently and the experience was great! Everyone was super friendly, the concessions were nice and cheap, and the Improv show was great! We were right in the front row and loved it! I will be going twice a month from now on.

I saw the Grouch that Stole Christmas....oh man, it was kinda painful to sit through. I laughed AT them a few not times, not necessarily with them. It was pretty bad. $16 bucks a person is super steep, I wouldve paid $5 though. Id recommend doing something else for sure.
