I really like this theater for theatrical productions. The lobby is modern - it is nothing amazing, but a good place to stretch your legs. The balcony on the third level is worth visiting if you have time. It has a great view. The concessions are mediocre. I dont expect movie theater level concessions, but I dont enjoy paying $7 for a small box of candy. The drinks were $3 for a bottle, which is reasonable for this type of setting. But, the most important part is the theater. It is a large stage with pretty good acoustics. The seats are comfortable enough. I saw one show in a box seat, which was fabulous. I love that you can position your seat for the best viewing. I saw the second show on the 3rd tier. I was worried that I wouldnt be able to see the show well from that high up. But to my surprise, I felt fairly close to the stage. They built the tiers at a steep vertical angle. So even being on the third to last row, I still felt close. And the steep angle helped me see over the tall guy in front of me. The attached photo shows the view from the third tier. I was pleasantly surprised for the inexpensive tickets I purchased. Also - there were reviews saying how hot it was on the third tier. They must have fixed that problem because it was a good temperature on a hot August evening. I also love the location of the theater. You can park, pick up dinner, then see the show. There are many eating options nearby as well as the mall.

With all that has been written about this theatre, my expectations were high. I was quite disappointed. While the design was beautiful, there were many things lacking. The elevators were extremely slow! With a new facility like this, I expected more elevators and faster ones. The wait was exhausting. The only other option was the stairs. Are you serious??? Not everyone can climb stairs - especially 3 flights! Escalators would have been more appropriate. There was no signage telling us what was where. When we finally found the appropriate door there was no usher there to great us or hand out programs. We did find a box with some programs in it so helped ourselves. We were on the 3rd tier. The rows are extremely long. There are no breaks! The only aisles were on each end. Thus if your seats are in the middle, you have to climb over a long row of people. Those rows should have been split for easier access. Someone else mentioned the color of the decor (very dated looking) and the uncomfortable seats. They are correct. With the amount of $$$ put into this theatre, it appears they skimped wherever they could. After sitting for 3 hours, my back was killing me. Theres only one place to get something to drink. On the main level. If youre on the 3rd level you have to either take the unbelievably slow elevator or hike down and back up 3 flights of stairs!

The Eccles Theater was beyond amazing! I saw The Lion King there and it was phenomenal. I have seen plays in other theaters before, including The Lion King in the popular Minkoffs theater in NYC. The Eccles Theater was top notch: amazing sound and great seats on all the tiers. It was beautiful! Ushers were nice (and the majority of them are all volunteers). I would suggest getting there plenty early, that is probably the only down side. There is limited parking and the elevators are not set up the in most efficient way. Also food is semi limited for grab and go - a few sandwiches, drinks, etc. If you are coming with a handicap need like I was a few tips to look out for. The bottom of the tier is accessible from the floor of the tier below. For example: If you are on Tier 3 row A, you could access it easier from the floor; Tier 2, allowing you to walk less stair or pull up a wheel chair. Also, an usher will take your wheelchair out and may give you a call tag. Protip: Park in City Creek if you can, right below Lush, it will be the best available.

It is a most beautiful theatre, but not alot of thought given to the patrons experience. The show Lion king i would rate a 6 out of 10 you could sense and see the inexperience of the cast. From dancers being a beat off to the voices of the singers being weak at times, granted a big venue to fill but fill it you must. The customer experience was most underwhelming, from the restrooms lacking enough facilities to the concession stands if you could call them that. We were no even able to get a bottle of water or a drink of any kind because the concession stand was more like a neighborhood lemonade stand. 8 feet long and manned by two people and we were ushered out of line and back into the theatre with still probably 10 people in front of us because the second act was about to start what a joke. Well done cuisine unlimited and Eccles, Im afraid my first anticipated experience may be my last.

I recently attended the grand opening of the new Eccles Theater downtown, and I was not impressed. The place feels really cheap and gaudy. Inside and out, the building looks like it was made out of multicolored Lego building blocks. All kidding aside, the cloth upholstered seats in the theater arent very ergonomic and theyre hard as a rock; I couldnt imagine sitting in them longer than an hour before my butt gets numb. The worst seats on a plane are so much more comfortable. The elevator in the lobby is the slowest Ive seen west of the Mississippi (I got really frustrated with the long wait and took the stairs instead). Big fail. You have to walk up or down a couple flights of steps just to get anywhere, there are no escalators to take you to the upper floors! The 111 office tower next door is just another boring box with lights up top. Salt Lake could do so much better.

I had a problem with a lady that got us kicked out of the book of Mormon for being to loud (AKA laughing). She turned to my wife and said we were being way to loud. Maybe she thought it was a documentary written by the creators of South Park. She obviously didnt know its a comedy. Lisa in ticketing and the head usher were really nice when I called them about it. They sincerely apologized and offered me a refund for the tickets. My wife and I really wanted to see the show so I asked if I could get tickets instead and they were more then accommodating. So were going tomorrow night. You have great customer service. Thank you very much. Sincerely, Mr. Garret Smith and Mrs. Rebecca Smith

Nice theater from the 80s. The entrance and front of the building are top notch. However, once you enter the theater, youll see the theater is filled with plywood chairs with orange fabric seat cushions. The walls are covered with a mix of wood and orange/brown paneling. Its a very functional theater, but the style just seems like it is straight out of a 80s era Marriott hotel. It would have been nice to have something a little more modern or more classic, but 80s era style and color are not something to aspire to. I do look forward to attending many performances here as Im sure all the best shows will be here.
