The park was great, until storms rolled in. They closed the park at 3:25PM and then REOPENED as the storm was even closer at approximately 3:50, just skirting past the policy of if they have to close the park before 4PM, they give you a voucher to come back another day. How does it make sense to close the park then reopen when the storm was literally overhead? We spoke with the manager, voiced our concerns and did NOT appreciate her tone at all. She advised us she had been at the park 5 years and knew what she was doing. Well good for you, thanks for your attitude, my family and friends will definitely NOT BE BACK. Splash Kingdom is now where we will go. This is the letter I sent Headquarters, but the letter was returned undeliverable: I am writing this letter to you to express my disappointment in my experience at Hawaiian Falls: The Colony location on Saturday, July 8th 2017. I RARELY complain. I understand people in the service industry have bad days and no one is perfect; but due to the nature of the incident that occurred, I feel it is important to voice my concern. Saturday, my group (4 adults/4 children) arrived and entered the park around 1:00 PM. We were having a great time enjoying the slides and water; all was well. At approximately 3:25PM, management decided to put a pause on all activities due to encroaching weather conditions: visible lightning, thunder, and dark clouds were moving in. We agreed with this decision. Many people left, but we stuck around to see what would happen and possibly wait the storm out as we had planned to stay until closing. To our bewilderment, at approximately 3:50 PM, management reopened the park - as the storm drew closer. We did NOT let our children back into the water because there was still an obvious severe weather threat. We literally looked up as dark clouds were above us, heard the thunder and watched as other family’s children entered the water. With that decision made by Hawaiian Falls, we packed up and left. As the attendees by the entryway bid us farewell, we asked to speak with the manager. Within a minute or so, the manager came out and we voiced our concern. She advised us she had been at the park for 5 years and knew what she was doing, that they were watching the radar and would get notified if lightning struck within a 5 mile radius. I don’t feel this was the correct response to give concerned parents. We are unhappy that the park chose to re-open MINUTES before 4PM despite the extreme weather conditions, and do not appreciate the park management’s flippant and uncaring response/attitude given. I don’t understand why the park stayed closed from 3:25PM-3:50PM but then decided to open again just as the storm approached. I understand this concern may be due to my ignorance of water park safety regulation, but I will say that I do not feel safe allowing my family into water with visible lightning and thunder overhead. I am hoping that you provide a response to this and want to express that I am dissatisfied with the customer service received by the park manager along with the execution of park policy concerning severe weather. We feel that the park was reopened solely to avoid having to hand out free passes and are disheartened the safety of our children would be put at risk for this.

Management – 0 Stars! HORRIBLE. I would LOVE to go to Hawaiian Falls tomorrow, but I can’t afford the gas!!! When my family moved away from the Hawaiian Falls we used to live beside, before this season even opened, we were not allowed to get a refund on our season passes. Now we hold 4 season passes we can’t use because we live too far away to make the drive!! DO NOT BUY SEASON PASSES!!! Come hell or high water, you won’t have a chance for a refund for ANY REASON. Furthermore, it only saves you maybe five bucks, so not worth the risk. Cleanliness – 2 Stars – The water in the lazy river was really dirty as evidenced by how brown the walls were (originally painted white). Perhaps this is due to the thick vegetation around the river, but it was pretty gross and made for an unpleasant swim with thousands of teeny things floating in the water around us. Bathrooms were mediocre. Floors had puddles of water pooled on them. Some trashcans throughout park were overflowing. I saw hair in an uncovered cotton candy machine. Eew! Safety – 2 Stars - A life guard forced me to be separated from my child while she was in the water! While I ran around frantically looking for her, she was stuck in the lazy river with a snake...literally! Thats NOT SAFETY! Understaffed on Kiki Cove. One lifeguard had a large area to cover on a busy day (which this one was). He was running ragged trying to monitor this area which required movement to see around the many apparatus the children were playing in and on. Friendliness – 3 Stars - I was immediately put off before I even got into this park. My family had spent several hours running around before arriving at this park. At our last stop, we asked for cups of ice water. These came in large styrofoam cups with lots of ice, lids, and straws. We had planned on spending the rest of the day here and closing out the night with fireworks. It was my daughters 16th birthday and this was part of her special celebration. As we entered the park, we were told we couldnt bring our cups into the park! What?! We were offered other cups: flimsy cardboard cups with no lids or straws. We had to dump nearly half our water and sadly watch our ice melt as dirt and water flinging from other peoples bodies splashed into what was once our clean, fresh, cold ice water. As we were leaving (less than an hour later) we asked a manager about this. He said it applies to all Hawaiian Falls and even employees cant bring beverages in cups with logos from restaurants. Im guessing this is because the park is contracted with Coca-Cola and they only want their Coke cups used. Two things: First: Coca Cola can insist drinks only be served in their cups, but for them to insist people get rid of their own cups at the gate is a severe over reach of peoples rights to take care of their personal needs. Secondly, AT LEAST provide lids and straws!

my experience was sunday. we were only there for a few hours right in the middle of the day for a birthday party. For how long I was there (3 hours) the price was ridiculous but its not their fault I couldnt get there until 1pm. THE SLIDES: My biggest gripe are the wait times for the waterslides. I visited this park (the colony) a couple years ago, think it was when the purple slide had just opened, and the lines seemed to move much faster. In my prior experience, as soon as a group of riders were released to go down, they would pre-load the slides with the next riders, that way as soon as the current riders hit the bottom and got out, the next group were ready to go down. Now they use a cable to keep people off the platform at the slide entry level and dont open it until the riders have all gotten completely out of the slide at the bottom. Then, if the ride attendant is paying attention, they unhook the cable and let the next group step up and get in. Then, after theyre finally set the attendant has to go get another thumbs up to release the riders to go down. very inefficient! I do believe the last time I was there they had more than one attendant loading riders, especially on the red and orange slides where you have three slides to load. Also, people cant really figure out which slide they want until they get on the platform, and then you end up with people waiting because the person in front of them took the slide they wanted so now you wait longer while someone further back in line has to be brought up to fill the spot. The purple slide was basically the same. its just one slide but because of all the check and recheck it takes forever. my son and I waited 35 to 40 minutes (I was wearing a watch) for each of these. so we blew half of our 3 hours at the park to go down TWO slides. THE REST: lazy river - was fine, we didnt wait to get a tube at the entry, just hopped in, ended up getting a tube just a couple minutes later wave pool - again ok, very crowded in the deepest area but thats to be expected as its where the biggest waves are. took about 6 or 7 minutes to get a tube Food - they need to have an option to buy a slice of pizza (or a whole pizza) without getting the drink combo. we brought water bottles so didnt want to buy drinks. speaking of drinks, it doesnt mention it in the FAQ page of the website but you can bring in a water bottle (or sport bottle) for each person at no charge as long as its not in a cooler. thats pretty much all we had time for. Ill go back but well go on a Monday or Tuesday morning as they offer a couple good coupons and I expect it wouldnt be nearly as crowded. *PS..if anyone at HF is listening, that "Maui Moms" title for the Monday deal is a bit insulting. Im a work from home dad and have my kids home during the summer while my wife works out of the house. Id like to use that coupon too :(
