WOW!! What a GREAT PARK!! First visit on July 4, 2011 to Schlitterbahn Galveston. I believe that employees really are the cornerstone to an enjoyable time at a waterpark. The Employees at Schlitterbahn Galveston did not disapoint! They were sooo friendly and helpful...from the workers at various stations in the lazy river (not lazy at all! Got dumped out of my tube on numerous occasions.) But, they all seemed to really enjoy what they were doing. We rented a palapa cabana, in the grass, which included 2 lounge chairs (good quality mesh); 4 mesh chairs and table...and a Hammock! They had individual lockers at each cabana so you dont have to run back and forth to the locker room. The best part for us was the wait staff. So friendly and helpful. Our servers for the day were Myrna and Rae. They both did an awesome job in getting our drinks and stuff to us. Another really great idea is that the servers give you a phone number to call your order in--even though the servers come around every 30 minutes or so..you may miss them..so they give you a phone number to call and you place your order-really quick responses. We never lacked for anything. Being so close to the gulf made for a breezy day and our cabana was shaded the entire day--so along with the breeze/ shade and abundance of rides--it was pure heaven...and made for a comfortable nap in the middle of the day. They also have cabanas on the other side which have sand around instead of grass. It got pretty crowded toward the mid afternoon, but not so much that you couldnt enjoy yourself. The crowd was a friendly one and people were amazingly courteous (unlike other parks we have been to). We arrived first thing in the morning and were able to get on all the rides we wanted with little or no wait (i.e. 5 minutes top). Again, toward the middle of the afternoon, the lines were longer...but we just jumped into the lazy river which features huge waves in one part; rushing water in other part and calm water in another part. Plenty of beach access to either exit or enter. The best part of the park, as far as water rides (imo) is that the the river goes all the way around the park, and you can literally go from one side to the other in the water. They call it the transportainment system. Another thing I noticed was that the park provides ample shade in the way of palapas...they are all over the place. They also have many, many individual tables with large or regular size umbrellas...and of course a couple of huge covered areas with picnic tables. The cost: $41.99 on line for adult tickets; no parking fee; cabana was $125. Food was same price as other parks. However, you can bring in your own food/ drinks (non alcoholic)..like we did. We have always gone to Splashtown in the past for a park in the Houston area...but after going this past Thursday to Splashtown (see my review), we decided to try Schlitterbahn Galveston. I can just say that we will never go back to Splashtown..we now have a new park...in Galveston!

Positive: You can bring your own cooler and there are lots of areas with shade. There is an over 21 age small pool with a swim up bar. There are several large slides, some you can use a tube. The lazy river around the park is a blast, it has a section with waves and even a section with rapids. The lazy river is about 3 feet tall and some children struggled to get around in the strong current. They have individual tubes, combined tubes, and even some combined tubes that have a thin plastic center to hold a small child. They have several restaurants there with average prices for burgers, corn dogs, etc. They also had life vests in the children section.. Also, parking is free, but there is no security in the parking lot. Negatives: The female restrooms are a mess and no one is cleaning them. They do not have drains in there so you walk through thick water and who knows what else. Also people with coolers hog the tables all day even if they are not using them. It got to the point we just sat at any table with coolers because those people did not own the tables, but acted like it. They should put signs that tables can not be reserved. They do check every cooler before it goes in the park and you can NOT bring in adult beverages. Also, people cut in line on the rides so expect your normal 20 minute wait time to be 40 minutes because one person is holding a spot for 10 people who show up at the last minute. Line cutting is not allowed, but people do it anyways. We never found a changing room. Most people end up changing their clothes in the restroom and pray you do not drop your clothes in the two inch thick mystery water. Tips: They have small lockers, but you can only put one tiny duffle bag in them. So get multiple lockers if you have a lot of stuff. Also, if you bring a cooler, I recommend putting a lock on it. There are so many people there, I would not want someone messing with my stuff. The prepaid money plastic band is awesome and recommend getting one before you enter the park. Every restaurant or bar can scan the band and deduct money from your account. The sidewalks are really hot, wear your water shoes or flip flops around the park.

My visit to Schlitterbahn consisted of 20 minutes due to the fact my 72 year old My visit to Schlitterbahn consisted of 20 minutes due to the fact my 72 year old grandfathers tube popped while floating in front of it. Being as far away from the exit as we were, we stopped there to get some help. I have to say that it was a sorry state of affairs, we were greeted by someone from Park security, and explained the situation as the young lady was telling us we could not stay in the park. We asked for assistance, and were told we had to get back on the river, it was nothing she could do about it and we had to vacate the park. At that point we told the individual to contact the police department we would wait for them so they can assist us. This was due to the fact that it was my 72-year-old grandfathers tube for hip-hop. After informing her we wanted her to contact the police department she then spent 20 minutes on the radio before finally escorting us out of the park to the street. She then advised us to take a right and walk all the way down to the last stop exit where Landa Falls could pick us up. Shortly after walking to the right as instructed, we realize that landfalls picked up in front of The park. We walked back up to the front of the park and got a shuttle ride back to Landa Falls. When I discussed the issue with the manager of landfall, his name was Doug, he explained to me that they should have advised us where the shuttle was, and that there was no reason they should not have offered assistance being as they work with Landa Falls.

Ive loved going to schlitterbahn since I was a kid, I went today and my father and I wanted to ride the Massiv, we finally get to the top and we exceed the weight limit together so had to go separate.. the ride has a few spots where you go down really fast and water pressure is suppose to push you back up.. well I went down and started going up and fell back down and did a black flip down.. Im not the smallest at 154lbs but there is NO reason why that should have happened.. my father was after me and got a little further than I did and also fell back down.. whoever went after us had the SAME thing happen to them.. I was very embarrassed and upset.. we asked to talk to a manager but got a supervisor, & explained that we thought the tubes were not inflated enough or the water pressure was not strong enough.. there were people going 2 at a time that obviously weighed more than 154.. the supervisor smiled the whole time like he was trying to hold back and just said its a new ride and theyre still testing out the kinks.. I guess paying customers are there test dummys... now Im laying in bed and my shoulder hurts and I cant do anything about it. So if youre over 150lbs dont plan on going on this ride. Other than that I had a great time
