What really sets this place apart is the service. To begin, Im from FL and I had been in Knoxville the last seven days for an entomology conference. Based on advice from locals, I had spent the last several days roaming around from the old city to the strip. Wherever I went the service, food, etc was mediocre. Tonight as the last night in town and Im sorry to say that I had not been by the preservation pub before now. Had a kind waitress (bad memory, cant remember her name) who had obviously been having a bad day. She admitted as much when we asked, bit she continued to be professional and friendly - a rare trait. Furthermore, I managed to forget my conference badge, business card, and hotel room key behind. Coming back a half hour later, she had it all at hand! Again, coming from FL, I wouldve expected to be mugged in my room later than night but she came through even in this situation - best waitress ever. Will definitely be back tomorrow for lunch if she is there to thank her again. This place is well worth your business if only for the honest, helpful employees. Can only imagine what the services would be like on a good day!

I spent this past Friday and Saturday nights (24-25 Aug 2012) at various spots around Knoxville, with a small group of acquaintances. The final stop on Friday night was the Preservation Pub, and it was the absolute highlight of my lone trip to Knoxville. I scored the food a 2, but only because I only had three beers while I was there (no food), and dont want to give high marks for something I didnt technically experience. However, the blues band playing on the ground floor and the come-as-you-are, free-spirited atmosphere was terrific. The decorations matched the musically rich atmosphere to a tee. The place was packed and the bartenders were as quick, friendly, and accommodating as I could ask. Im sad to admit that I did not take advantage of the casual presence of The Lumineers, while I was there. But, I much preferred escaping into the ebb and flow of the down-stairs stage. The place isnt for everybody, though. It definitely has more of an artsy feel and might not be a enjoyable experience for those looking for a polished posh experience.

I walked in on a Sunday evening around 7:30 pm with two of my friends to meet another set of friends at the bar. Our bartender was a girl in a pink shirt with dark hair who had an attitude in her voice from the moment we walked in. One friend who was looking at the food menu didnt want to order anything after the bartender mentioned that she was looking at a food menu with a condescending tone that the drafts were on the wall which alone made her feel like her business was unwanted. She then ordered a beer, not realizing her ID was expired and when the bartender mentioned that to her she told my friend that she couldnt serve her and that she had to leave the building. We understood that she was doing her job by not serving her alcohol but didnt understand why she would kick one person out when we all walked in together nor why she couldnt let her order food. It was my friends first experience at the bar and we had planned to spend good money hanging out but the bartenders sour attitude made it her last.

Now I have to disclose, I promote the comedy shows that happen every Sunday night in the Speakeasy at Preservation Pub. However, from a artist stand-point, Scott and Bernadette have always taken care of all the performers I have brought in to do comedy. The stage area in the Speakeasy is easily converted into a lounge at the base of a staircase that leads to one of the only rooftop bars in downtown Knoxville. The rooms are narrow and long, but there are three floors of options. Music is usually downstairs, some acoustic acts and stand-up comedy on the second floor, and a plant friendly rooftop bar that has limited seating but a great view. Dont take my word for it, I promote the place, come see for yourself.

I was in town for a wedding with a group of friends and we went out with the bride and groom for some good music and fun. While the band was awesome and we had a blast listening to them the staff was awful. They kicked out my friends for no reason stating that "he was at the pub the night before and wasnt allowed back".... which is totally bogus b/c we were at a WEDDING the night before. I felt that they were being prejudice against them for some reason and were really rude about it. They wouldnt listen to us at all. When I return back to Knoxville I will not return this place even though the music was awesome. I will continue to tell friends who live there that should not go until the staff has been replaced.

Good live music, cheap drinks. Good clientele and staff but downstairs music venue is VERY SMOKY! I was surprised you can smoke indoors anywhere in a city of this size, especially considering the comparatively mild climate in Knoxville. (Several other establishments on the square had people smoking outside their doors) I heard its the establishments owner who can decide if smoking is allowed and I support that concept, but I had to launder everything I wore that night so the stench didnt infect my other belongings. Go there and enjoy the atmosphere and be prepared to deal with the carcinogens if you want to enjoy the music,

This place is appealing for all situations. Live music and vintage atmosphere. No smoking, padded booths, and full bar upstairs with various stage events. Live music, stand-up, trivia. Rooftop cocktail bar that looks over Market Square. This is a place you stop in to get a beer at 3:00 in the afternoon and accidentally stay til they close if youve got a hotel room downtown. This isnt a place for people who dont like Pink Floyd.

We jumped in the Tahoe and made our way down to Knoxville for the weekend. Preservation Pub was recommended by an employee at the hotel. We checked it out and enjoy happy hour. Its a smoking joint so be prepared to smell like cigs when you leave. They do have a non-smoking floor and Roof top Garden but if I recall correctly it wasnt up. If I ever make it down to Knoxville again Id visit again.

First floor often has bands performing but it can get REALLY crowded and as you might expect, it might take a bit to get a beer. They also do allow smoking but its not overbearing. Second floor is the speakeasy and smoke free. Sunday nights is comedy night and they have cheap beer and good deals on pizza. Definitely worth the trip.

The non-smoking upstairs is a JOKE! It’s about as effective as putting a pub on top a TVA coal-fired stem plant smoke stack. “The public health authorities never mention the main reason many Americans have for smoking heavily, which is that smoking is a fairly sure, fairly honorable form of suicide.” Kurt Vonnegut
