I really like this theater overall, mainly because of the IMAX. Here in the upstate there are no IMAX theaters around except for this theater, closest thing to it is the RPX theater at Regal Hollywood 20, which you can check out my review of them and my dislike of them. Since this theater is so far away from me in Spartanburg I only come here for the really big movies that I feel deserve to be seen on the biggest screen and Ive been coming here since the first Thor film hit theaters in IMAX back in 2011 and have been coming here since. Last year I saw Godzilla and Interstellar here in IMAX and this theater totally enhanced the movie going experience for me. The sound quality was loud and crisp, screen was large and beautiful, seating is comfortable but a little noisy, concessions is fairly good and yes you can put your own butter on the popcorn, unlike Hollywood 20. Ticket prices (at the time of this review) are the same as Hollywood 20: $8.50 matinee, $12 3D matinee, $11 evening, $14.50 3D evening, all IMAX screenings 3D or not are $17.50. So the price compared to other theaters in the area is a bit higher but for me I mainly come here for IMAX and its totally worth the drive for me. This is a great theater and whenever a big movie comes out (Avengers Age of Ultron) you can probably bet Ill be coming here to see it. The only thing I want them to add at this theater is reserved seating. That is the only thing that Hollywood 20 has that I love. It can get really annoying having to arrive an hour and a half early for a big movie event to make sure you get good seats.

Great theater, but why 2 stars? I am determined to get management or IMAX representatives to address a rather pressing issue. In the IMAX theater, the sub-woofers (bass speakers) have been missing / not present for over a year now!! Ticket prices have risen to nearly $17 per ticket, $17!!! I have seen many movies in this exact IMAX theater over the years, i remember seeing Inception here in IMAX and the THUNDEROUS bass nearly spilled my drink, now with out a FUNCTIONING low frequency sub-woofer channel it sounds like just a bunch of bull horns! I recently watched Jurassic World in this theater, and I could tell when the previews started that this problem has not been fixed, THIS IS JURASSIC WORLD, dinosaur footsteps sounded like kids running on hard wood floors! I will not see another movie in this IMAX theater again until this is resolved. My home theater has more bottom end with 2 subs than an IMAX theater?! UNACCEPTABLE!! If you are an audio enthusiast like me or just want to get your moneys worth in an IMAX theater, please help me put pressure on management to get this resolved! >> RANT OVER <<

Lost a phone. Couldnt find it. Staff was unable to provide any information. Was told I needed to search for it quickly. After coming BACK in to the theatre, the guy taking tickets decides to have an attitude and tell me that all of his employees are honest and good people and would "never" steal a phone. He told me that the theatre was DEFINITELY cleaned out after we left and upon observation it surely was NOT cleaned. Called the very same night after I got home and nothing. Called TWICE in the morning and nothing also. After sending someone to the theatre in person they all of a sudden had it. That tells me that I was either lied to, or someone didnt even bother to clean the place until well after we left, the following afternoon in fact. The hiring process at that place must be incredibly simple considering the staff.

I was at this theater watching BFG on a Friday night and they had the power go down for a few minutes. They obviously had no un-interuptable power supply for their projectors and sound system to prevent the equipment from shutting down during such an event. A usher came by and just flat out lied 3 separate times that they would start the movie approximately where it had stopped. Over half an hour later the movie started from the beginning for the next show time and more people came in too an already full auditorium and walk back out when they saw it was full. They need to invest in some equipment to at least keep the projectors and sound system going when the power momentarily shuts down and tell the people the truth so they can leave if they dont have another two hours to spend to see the end of the movie.

IMAX theater is amazing. The older gentleman who checks tickets is great, hes super friendly and a pleasure to interact with. If only the other staff had a fraction of his energy or people skills. Ticket line takes forever, any hiccup and they have to fetch a manager. I think it is ridiculous to have assigned seating in a movie theater. It holds up the line and no one pays any attention once they get in the theater anyway. The concession counter folks are the worst. Its like watching a zombie movie in slow motion. One girl actually walked off to take a break and left a line of people without a word. We didnt realize she wasnt coming back until we asked the employee in the next line and they went in the back to see where she went. Ill be going to Hollywood 20, even though its farther away.

I gave this theater 1 stars because they do not know how to communicate with their employees. I called the theater asking about if there was restrictions as to what to wear for the movie, "Suicide Squad". My children and their friends were dressing up as villains and they were told they could wear face paint but no masks and they were not to bring any props. They did just that and were not allowed to go inside. They did allow them to wash their makeup off in the bathroom before they were to enter but the point is their should be communication between their employees as to what is allowed and not. They spent many hours putting on makeup and money and had to take it off. This would have been avoided if all employees knew the rules!!

We drove to see In The Heart of the Sea at the 7:35 showing per Google and the Regal movie phone line. When we arrived we learned the film was not playing. The ticket window employee was apologetic and friendly and said the film was replaced with a Star Wars showing and offered to let us speak to the manager. The manager approached the window with a poor attitude and said the film was canceled because of technical difficulties. We asked for passes to another film and she was flippant and said if we want to see a movie we can buy a ticket. So rude. I suggested she have the website updated to reflect cancellations. Rude.

Great theatre experience, but i wont give five stars until they allow licensed concealed carry. Individuals that have submitted fingerprints to the state law enforcement, undergone and passed all required training and tests (which include the beloved background checks), and have earned their carry card should be allowed to exercise that right. Especially since they dont provide armed protection for patrons in each cinema, because that would be preposterous. OTHERWISE, great place. But that is a big deal for me, so i go to another local theatre often that I wont identify, but its not the one on woodruff road.
