I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. Had an amazing dinner date with my wife there a couple months back, and then a horrendous dinner experience with my daughter there a couple weekends ago. I cant really remember what it was that my wife and I had for dinner that night, but the experience was good enough for me to take my daughter there. Note that this wasnt just some random dinner date with my daughter, she turned 13 on March 6th and I flew her down from NYC the following week to celebrate for a 3-day weekend. This dinner date was supposed to cap it off. She had the roasted chicken dinner and I had the gnoochi. She requested "no chimichurri" but her meal came smothered in it, and the rice was undercooked. My gnoochi was severely overcooked and the pork roast was charred on the underside. I am not one to send a meal back for redress or refund, so before left I told the waitress to mention it to the chef. My intention was for him to note what was sent out from his kitchen. He sent back a poor excuse explaining why there were heavily burn sections of my pork. Maybe if I didnt cook, it wouldnt have felt as insulting but there is a distinct difference between burn from roasting and char. I wouldnt serve that to someone at my house, and I would never expect that from a restaurant. I didnt send back a rebuttal, because by then I deemed it pointless. I paid my bill($85+), to included the additional 20% tip I added for my waitress, and took my daughter home. My daughter is back in NYC now and was happy with her birthday weekend, but that poor dinner experience still bothers me. My daughter didnt even touch the roast chicken. She got it to go just so my feelings wouldnt be hurt. It literally sat in a take-out box in my refrigerator until my wife threw it out. (Kind of hilarious now that I think about) Before I conclude, I will point out that waiting staff was very attentive and professional. That propelled my rating from a 2 to 3 star. I will admit that the importance of this meal may have made me extremely critical, however I stand by my criticism because I have had better at this very location. That being said, for a random dinner on a date night this place would be fine. Unfortunately, as far as a special dinner spot, spend the extra money and go somewhere else.

THE MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE my friend had just spent over $100 on ONE of our tabs we paid almost $15 for a vodka soda and we asked for a little more vodka very politely due to it tasting likE water. THE BARTENDER TOOK THE VODKA AND POURED IT ALL OVER MY HAND AND ARM as i passed my drink. more on myself than in my drink. when i confronted him about it he said " just giving you what you wanted, more vodka" we told the owner who said what do you want and after telling him how we were treated he was annoyed because he was busy and he told us to "shut up" and used profanity while doing so. we are locals my friend is a bartender down the block i am a manager at two dental offices, i have told all my friends and family customers...patients... and anyone who will listen to never come here...they were disgusted with the experience!!!!! the owner is a very unpleasant man who swears at young women and said he did not need our service!!! he is also the owner at st james gate in folly beach where i live and go multiple times a week and i WILL never go there i am not going to let my money go to someone who told me he did not need my services. HORRIBLE SCARY EXPERIENCE!

We just experienced our first visit to Charleston and while walking around downtown, we decided on Prohibition to have a snack and a couple of drinks. As a party of four we were told we could go to the front bar or the back bar. We headed towards the back and checked out the patio. The tables were very impressive, made out of slabs of unique wood shapes. Then we noticed a cozy table in the corner across from the bar, so we proceeded to sit there. Quickly a server said that this table was reserved for dinner guests. We felt a little unimportant. So then we sat at the bar and ordered our drinks and also an order of salt and pepper fries. The three staff members behind the bar were busily doing things the entire time we were there and were very cold and unfriendly. There were no attempts at conversation and the mood was stale. This was a Friday night. We felt invisible almost. The fries were tasty though we wont be back to Prohibition and by the way, no other guests sat in that corner table the entire time we were there.

Just an "okay" perhaps poor attempt at craft cocktails. Classic cocktails certainly did not pay tribute to...well, the classics. Bar staff was very distant, less than friendly. My friend disliked her cocktail, in fact we all sampled the Pimms Cup and did not like it, and she was told he can only make her an additional drink. She then told me, "I guess Ill just suffer." I hope this isnt managements policy. I hope they dont normally allow their guests to suffer. Just to clarify Im a manager at a craft cocktail establishment in Florida. I rarely write reviews, and usually give everyone the benefit of the doubt. We all have a bad night in this industry, but I was very disappointed and frankly I dont think this was just one of those nights.

We have been everywhere around Charleston and never once had as terrible service as we did this Sunday. First we were told that there would be a wait and thats fine. But when youre told a specific time and then seated 30 minutes after said time its a little irritating. We ordered as soon as we were seated and then waited another hour to get our food. Not only was the kitchen slow but our server was inattentive and not empathetic at all. When asked to talk to a manager the manager was defensive and then never seen again. We then waited another 30 minutes for the bill and got out of the restaurant just in time for dinner. We will not be returning.

I went on a Saturday night and the place was extremely overcrowded. We got a couple drinks at the main bar before heading out back and left our tab open. When we went to the outside bar, he informed us that we had to reach a $10 minimum. No problem, we ordered some beers. When we went to cash out, he informed us that we had two tabs open, and THEN asked us if we wanted to combine them. They only want your money, either come with money to blow on overpriced drinks or avoid this drunk frat boy hangout. EDIT: A few days after our visit, another charge for $10.00 went through for no reason. I will never EVER return here.

Great experience! Stopped in while on a work trip to Charleston. I came in specifically for the shrimp and grits and they did not disappoint. Shrimp and grits were both cooked to perfection. The sauce and vegetables were a perfect compliment. I also had a king street cobbler to drink (correct me if Im wrong on the name). For someone that likes fruit infused drinks, it was excellent. The atmosphere was also great! Especially for someone fascinated by the era it is named for as I am. Music, dancing and decor were all a nice touch. I will definitely return next time Im in charleston.
