This venue is minuscule and insufficient in every aspect. The limited size means concertgoers are constantly jostled and touched by other attendees the entire event. There is limited seating along one wall, but its mostly dilapidated second-hand fare that looks dirty. They installed a bench for more seating near the stage, but it mostly just impedes the flow of traffic since it isnt flush against a wall. There are only two single-stall bathrooms, which are insufficiently stocked and quite gross (which is worrisome since the bar staff use these too). Concerts almost always start late (the last one I attended started 2 hours and 15 minutes late), which is inconvenient for people who come to see the show, not drink and socialize. The worst aspect of this venue is that most bands and artists sound bad when they play here. These are musicians that I have heard in other venues where they sound awesome, so the problem isnt the musician or group. The bottom line is that this is a venue for people who want somewhere to stand while they socialize. It isnt a good venue for hearing or appreciating music. My review is based on several visits over the span of several years. You couldnt pay me to go here again.

Can a venue/bar be lovely and rollicking at the same time? Yes. Opolis is reflected in bartender/owner Marion and her husband Andy. They are gracious and grounded while managing to stay on the cutting edge of the Norman music scene. Marion will make you a fabulous cocktail while you take in an upstart local band or a nationally recognized indie act. Sometimes Opolis can be a bit too trendy for its own good. Some patrons take the term "pretentious hipster" to new heights. But thats more a symptom of the scene itself then the actual venue. Overall this is not just one of the best venues in Norman but in Oklahoma overall. Steer clear of the scenesters and focus on the music. And have Marion make you another drink!

I have seen many a great show at the Opolis and Andy and Marian Nunez are the greatest! I love that they provide a warm inviting atmosphere for bands local and national to play. Their stage at Norman Music Festival are where I spend the most of my time during NMF. They have a steady stream of excellent shows year round too. Its just a groovy place to listen to music!
