Played in March and then a few days ago in late May, 2017 ... Course conditions were MARKEDLY improved and I had a heck of a lot of fun. To whoevers in charge: keep up the great work! Only comment is that the fairways were a little high in some places, but to be honest, conditions are MUCH better than every other comparably priced course in the city (i.e. Juniata, Karakung, etc.). Overall its a tight, unique layout set in beautiful Wissahickon Valley Park. Saw a family of groundhogs and 2 deer in the first 7 holes alone!! Its affordable and located within Philadelphia city-limits. I work just outside the city and live downtown so for me its the perfect place to walk 9 during the week after work. Not sure Id shell out $40 to ride during the weekend just yet, but if conditions keep improving I will definitely consider it due to its location. If you can get there after 2pm on weekdays - or if youre in school and take advantage of their student discount! - you cant beat Walnut Lane. Will be playing here often this Summer!!

First the good news. Even though this is a quite short tract, it is deliciously devious. A Findlay course carved out of the Wissahickon Woods. Hills, valleys, crests, mounds abound. I could imagine it being a fun place to work on some things. HOWEVER, Never in my life have I seen such a poorly maintained course. To call it a crap heap is to insult real crap heaps. The greens are a mixture of dried/burned or decent, but the fairways are the worst I have ever seen. There isnt grass, there are weeks and dirt. To find a decent lie, I almost considered moving off the fairway to the rough. Add the requisite broken glass and horrific tee boxes and you have a very sad, sad gold course. It wasnt always this way, and that is a shame. If I were to hear that they spent $20 this entire summer on maintenance, I would likely think they are lying.

I have seen it in much better shape it is actually a very challenging course to play and have enjoyed playing there the past 20 years. I work at a country club now and have worked at others in the past but always went back to Walnut Lane enjoying the tight Fairways and often hilly holes. But the last few times I was there it was very poorly taken care of lots of dirt on tee boxes and greens. I understand is a heavily played public course but it did not look overplayed it appeared under cared for sad to say. Can only hope over the winter and during the Spring they spend some money on seed fertilizer maybe even had a few of the holes aerated if not all of them it is not too far gone to be the above average very unique golf course it can be.

This course is about the same price as other public courses in the city, but is in no way comparable. It is close to being a par-3 course, with the exception of a few holes. It was in terrible condition when I was there, with the exception on the greens. And a guy came out on the course to pull the pins when I was on the 7th hole. Why then, did they charge me for 18 holes (they dont have a 9-hole rate, even in the late afternoons) if they were going to start closing shop before I could finish? There was still a good 60-90 minutes of daylight left! Dont waste your money. Go play at one of the many other MUCH NICER public courses in the area.

My son and I played at Walnut Lane yesterday. The course conditions were an absolute disgrace. If you like playing on a course that is not maintained then this is the course for you. The fairways were not cut. Because the fairways werent cut we felt like we were playing out of the rough all day long. The sand traps had weeds growing out of them and very little sand was in them. The most enjoyment I had on the course was finding everyone elses lost balls. I wouldnt even pay $5 to play on this course again. Giving this course one star is being generous.

Probably the worst golf course Ive ever played on. The greens are horrible and actually the full course is poorly kept. The only reason I give this a 2 instead of a 1 is because although a crappy course, it is decent for a beginner or kids. If you avg 100 or less on a real course spend your money elsewhere!!! Full price for a round is $42?!?!? Are you kidding me? The way this course is maintained its worth $20 a round at most with cart

hands down the worst course Ive ever played!!! every single tee box is a square mound of dirt, which is unacceptable since the course is short and most holes require an iron off the tee. the greens had more dirt than grass and the fairways looked like somebodys backyard during a drought.. maybe acceptable is the greens fees were more modest but at nearly 50 dollars per round, youre going to be very disappointed

The course is greatly improved in the last year. While its still the same easy executive course as before, the grass is a lot better kept and the bunkers actually have sand. Its close by and a quick play, which keeps me coming back. But the conditions are still municipal quality, and the price remains a bit high for the quality... Karakung is better for 10 bucks less. The staff is friendly though.

I highly enjoy the golf course however the trees that were cut down sitting by the building breaks my heart at least make something artistic out of them also the vines that are on the fence on magnet facing Magdalena Street The Vines need to be taken care of a lot of people out walking their dogs and its a hazard

Decent short course, if not overpriced. They charge private course rates for municipal type golf. The holes are not marked with placards. Interesting layout and hilly. As I watch people walk onto the back 9 through the fence, I wonder if I am the only sucker paying to walk this course

Course is fairly well kept. Great for someone who is getting started in the game. Cost per match is $30-40 per person which is reasonable. Lots of cute wildlife and scenery is exquisite as the course is right off of the park.

Nice people! I had some time to kill and the folks in the Pro shop couldnt have been nicer. They explained the layout, and I found the chipping area, sand traps, and putting green just fine. Thanks, guys!

Its a beautiful course for a public amenity. If it were a private course, Id probably review it as a 3. Very affordable, friendly staff, and a variety of challenges on the course.

The green keeper and maintenance workers should be fired. Its just that bad.
