I really used to love coming here to listen to the family sing. The atmosphere was very warm and friendly, the food is great, and it used to be my favorite spot. The other day I met with my friend Maria to catch up since she had recently been accepted into graduate school, and figured that El Hueso was the place to be! Well, Sebastian has proved that to be very untrue. I had shared a few cigarettes with him and he joined us outside. All in good fun, no worries. This is definitely THE place to meet people and chat! Well, Sebastian went from friendly to overtly sexual and terrifying within 2 seconds flat. When I told him I wasnt interested and wished him luck, he took it upon himself to insult me, verbally abuse me, and say that because I was talking to my friend Maria about my boyfriend and the fact that I am allergic to tampons that I shouldnt be surprised that he asked. Again, the problem is not that he asked. I politely told him that I was not interested. Question>answer, no big deal. The problem was his reaction to my answer; it was hostile and entirely unnecessary. I asked him several times to please leave me alone, but he was relentless, and it then progressed to verbal attacks against me and my friends. It is upsetting that this is the review I had to leave, and again it has nothing to do with the place itself, only the one employee. People, be sure to travel in groups, and be cautious of strangers! I certainly learned my lesson!

This place is truly a local gem. The food and drinks are alright, honestly theres nothing special when it comes to that. However, its El Huesos atmosphere that has me, and so many other people coming back. During the day, its a quiet location to get some tea, relax for a bit, listen to some music and read a good book. At night, theres always live music playing. Theres two house bands, La Mission and Los Dabs. Both consist of amazing musicians, and always keep the crowd entertained. Then theres always a handful of local artists that play as well. Combine the good music with their BYOB policy, and you have a great atmosphere. They also sell a good assortment of interesting beers. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone; especially if youre looking for something else to do in Brownsville on a Friday night other than all the stupid clubs.

When we walked in to Hueso de Fraile this evening, we were pleasantly surprised at how many people of all ages were in attendance. The ode to Frida Kahlo by the Literature Circle from Brownsville was refreshing, and offered insight to Frida Kahlos life with Diego Rivera. What a wonderful way to introduce literature to any age. The coffee was delicious, and reasonably priced. I particularly like that it is a very interesting place, with art pieces, jewelry, and other interesting objects spread out throughout the coffee shop. The music was great, and we were treated very well by the family who runs this establishment. I recommend that you visit, you will not be disappointed.

If you come to this town, come to El Hueso de Fraile. This place is a "must-see" when it comes to something to do in Brownsville. The drinks are decent, and the food is not filling, but its the wonderful atmosphere that keeps people coming back. The place has great, chill music playing during the day, and different type of live music at night. You can always see people doing their homework and drinking some tea when you walk by the establishment. Plenty of local musicians put on a show all 7 days of the week, but the house bands keep the people entertained forever. A true gem of a place. Seriously, what are you doing reading this? You should be on your way there. 5 stars mang!

Went there for the first time on April 8 to listen to a friend do a reading. Took another friend with me. The place is small but "cozy". The crowd were mostly young professionals, Hispanics made majority. There were some people from Matamoros, but, what surprised me the most, there were like 6 or 8 anglo Americans listening to live music, drinking a glass of wine, eating a salad. I hope I can go back soon. Next time I will try to eat something so I can have an opinion about their food. Aside from the Palm lounge, El HUESO DEL FRAILE were the only 2 places open at night! they were both filled!!

I visit this place a lot. It attracts a trendy/younger crowd. They have live music every night. As a coffee shop I cant say I enjoy it much. Not because the drinks or service are not good, they are... But because they play live music ALL the time at night. I wish you could hang out in this place and have a nice conversation with friends, but the live music doesnt make that possible.

Ive been here maybe three times and each time is memorable. My first visit I was highly impressed and even inspired by the owners. They are a tight-nit family who also performs on stage with exotic and transformational music. They have really good coffee and food. The scene is a very down to earth and artsy place. We Love this place, hands down! =)

Very cool place in downtown. Went during the day and tried one of the interesting iced fruit juice with coffee drinks. Combination was much better than I expected. Definitely recommend stopping in if you are downtown. However, my suggestion is that the staff work to be more friendly to tourists.

Delicious & CREATIVE coffee & teas! A chilled ambiance filled with local art & live music every evening. They have a good selection of craft beers that ate worth trying and do try their deli styled foods! Near the back are board games you could bust out to spend some quality time with friends!
