We had our wedding here in early September and it was gorgeous. Ceremonies can be held in the garden adjacent to the reception hall (a part of the visitors center) - we liked the area with the river view more, but it was too far for our grandparents to walk (and they only allow ceremonies by the garden). The river view area and area around the house itself, however, is fantastic for photos. The reception hall has tables, chairs, bathrooms, parking and a catering kitchen so you need to rent very little, and the terrace is perfect for a cocktail hour (no need for a stuffy receiving line!). The terrace, garden and big doors mean that while the reception hall is indoors, the feeling is of an indoor-outdoor space. Perfect for nights with good weather but serviceable even in bad weather. The hall itself is lovely, with wooden floors, neutral colors (so you can use any colors you want), arts-and-crafts/Japanese style lights and exposed beams. Its much classier and more minimalist than a typical hotel banquet hall. Staff is professional and friendly, and happy to help, and its very conveniently located right next to the Marriott, so your guests can walk back to their rooms. No need for DDs. The only downside is that sometimes you can hear traffic from Rt. 9 or trains going past, but the trains add to the Victorian air of the place. All in all we are so happy we chose this venue!

Overlooking the Hudson River, the 200-acre Locust Grove Estate includes an Italianate villa designed in 1851 for artist and inventor Samuel Morse by architect A. J. Davis. It is a wonderful testament to a family who kept this historic home of Samuel Morse intact. In 1895 new owners William and Martha Young redecorated the mansion with a vast collection of art and antiques. Mr. and Mrs. Young’s daughter, Annette, lived at Locust Grove until 1975, preserving the estate essentially as her parents had used it. Today Locust Groves is an independent not-for-profit museum and nature preserve established by Annette Innis Young.

Locust Grove was the most amazing place to have our wedding ceremony and reception. My husband and I fell in love with Locust Grove. We loved using the indoor space and the outdoor space, especially the traditional English garden where our wedding ceremony was held. Our guests enjoyed walking the grounds of Locust Grove! Highly recommend and we could not have imagined a more perfect place to have our wedding ceremony and reception!

THE WORST TRIP EVER!!!!! NEVER EVER GOING THERE AGAIN!!!! My brother and I both went there for a school field trip. Since it was a field trip, we expected the staff to be nicer. They were not. It was boring and we didnt get to go outside until we were walking to the buses. Overall a big disappointment.

So much to see that you cannot do it in just a few hours. The volunteer staff are very knowledgeable and willing to share with you. Its free to visit and is open year-round (except when rented out for special events a few times a year).

Not only is the building beautiful and well kept, but the grounds and gardens are spectacular. I was here for Queen City Pride and the bathrooms were clean, the grounds were manicured, I could not be more impressed.

Beautiful grounds with excellent trails. The Morse House has an old but pretty feel to it, and the art gallery in the welcome center houses very high quality art. Definitely worth at least one visit.

We had so much fun with our girls scout troop making circuits in the basement and going on a educational Morse code scavenger hunt in the museum.
