So I was curious about this hotel because it offered the cheapest rooms in the area ($93 a night) and had such bad reviews. Im happy to say that my stay has been nothing short of exceptional, with a few, fixable flaws. We came in with an issue with our reservation. I had accidentally booked the hotel a week later than we were in Niagara Falls, and thus we didnt have a room this weekend. The man at the front desk kindly helped me contact Lodging Services and got me a refund on our room, which we then used to book a room in person for that night. The people that complain about the rooms smelling are largely at their own fault, they may have booked a smoking room. We did the same thing, and expected the smell. We had booked the room because it was cheapest and we were just looking for a quick place to stay the night. In the room, we realized the smell was actually quite bad. When we complained up front and asked for some air freshener, we were immediately given a Lysol disinfectant spray and the room smelled fine the rest of the stay. The Wi-Fi is good. You connect to the network, go to any website, and just click accept (only the first time). The room itself is quite furnished. We had two double beds, an AC, a fridge, a microwave, a TV, an ironing board, a safe, and a nice desk for me to work on. We were provided with as many towels as we needed (there were four of us). The Continental Breakfast was delightful. There were a variety of muffins, breads, and donuts. For beverages there was coffee, hot chocolate, and different juices. There are also cereals and milk for people who wish to have something plain. The lady in the breakfast room was hard at work constantly refreshing supplies of all the food, and nothing ran out despite the hotel being overbooked that night. The pool is open from 10am to 10pm. It fits around 20 people, I recommend getting there early in the morning (10:30) or late at night (9:30). The hotel itself is located incredibly close to a mix of grocery stores, food places, and attraction related locations. The Falls is only a block away, at max it was a 5 minute walk all the way to the edge of the falls. There is even a helicopter ride that departs right next door to the hotel (its $100 for adults and $60 for kids). Some flaws I noticed with the hotel can be easily fixed. The elevator smells like smoke, and can probably be amended with a no smoking sign inside. The smoking rooms could probably also be made to smell better, considering a couple sprays of that disinfectant did the trick. I also recommend to the hotel that the windows be fixed in some of the rooms, as in some rooms they dont open. Overall I was very pleased with my stay. I encountered helpful staff, quaint rooms, splendid breakfast, and good accessibility for handicap and normal people, all at a competitive price compared to the (many) other hotels in the area.

We stayed here in July 2015. The hotel smells bad. The carpet in the hallways is gross and in bad need of replacement. I got an overall feeling that things were in disrepair and dirty and overdue for updating. Thankfully our room was clean and smelled fine, or I dont think I could have stayed there. The pool attendant was busy on her phone and talking to her boyfriend. Half an hour before the pool closed, they ran out of pool towels, and she made no effort to get more or to help my son, who needed one. Just "Were out of towels." This hotel allows dogs. My sons and I watched a dog urinate on the carpet in our hallway out of nervousness as his owners tried to get into their room. The next morning, it was still not cleaned up. The vending machine on our floor was out of order. The only reason I am giving two stars is that the front desk and housekeeping staff that we met were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was fine. Other than that, this hotel was way too expensive for what we got. Extremely disappointing.

This hotel is disguting!!!!! The halls were dark (probably to hide the dirt) and the rooms were gross. The smell was terrible. This hotel hasnt been updated in many, many years. Our tub or sink didnt drain AT ALL even after the front desk was notified. The free breakfast consisted of stale cereal and rotten fruit. There was one elevator which made it impossible to get your bags down to the first floor when checking out because the elevator was always full. The windows looked as if they had never been cleaned. There was a huge spider web right on the window (thankfully on the outside but still). I kept waiting for roaches to come out but thankfully didnt see any. We were there for one night and then checked out. I tried to complain to the front desk and the man said he didnt care. NICE!!! Spend the extra money and stay somewhere thats decent. This place IS NOT!!!!

Howard Johnson’s is a great place to stay in Niagara Falls for several reasons. First of all, its very close to the park, the casinos and most of the other attractions you would want to see. The price is also very reasonable, being one of the cheapest I could find in the area without it being a total dump. The big advantage comes to dog owners, this place is very pet friendly, the owners and all the staff we came in contact with, loved our dog. The only minor detractor would be that the place could use some updating. Really minor stuff like new sinks in the bathroom, more hot water for the showers, even a bit of outside updating would make a world of difference to the eye. UNCLE GERRYS TIP: Three Sister’s Trading Post is right next door and is a great place to pick up a few souvenirs of your trip.

We stayed for one night during mid-Nov. 2012 and chose this place primarily not to spend too much and be in a safe location. In the morning, our plans were to see the falls (much better to drive there, a large park leads to falls, w/plenty of parking) and get back on hwy. Although this hotel is "stuck in the 70s" our opinion is theyve done the most they can (w/o renovations) to offer clean, comfortable beds and bathroom. Continental breakfast (free) was as good as any other place, avail. in small, clean dining area. The guy manning the front desk that night offered many helpful tips for our travel plans. We slept well, had nice hot showers, ate decent breakfast - it is good / adequate for a basic overnight stay. It is located at foot of Rainbow bridge.

THE GOOD: Its a cheap hotel thats within a block of Niagara Falls and the Canadian border. It was a place to lay my head for a reasonable price and there was nothing horrendous or really distressful about my stay. My complaints are superficial. THE BAD: Although it is in the USA, it is so close to the border, my phone thought I was in Canada and I had roaming charges, which was what I wanted to avoid in lodging on the USA side. There were no towels and blood on the sheet and despite having an HBO pamphlet, they didnt seem to have HBO. The overnight counter person was a little crotchity -- not to me personally, but he had an observable attitude.
