Lasting impressions: Nice venue, good food, the darkness is in the crack of your derriere... My experience: We popped along on a Saturday evening for the earlier show and were surprised by how quiet it was. The place was about a quarter full but we assumed that maybe people come for the later show. We were already aware of the minimum drinks/food charge, so werent at all surprised when they politely informed us of the policy when we entered and we had planned to eat dinner there anyway. The food was good - I had the salmon with risotto and my friends had the bolognaise and the spaghetti polpette. The bolognaise was apparently "nice but not what was expected" and was cream-based rather than tomato-based but there were no other complaints about the food. My mojito was a bit of a lame effort at a mojito to be honest and I switched to soft drinks without finishing it, as I wasnt sure how successful their other cocktail-making efforts would be. However, overall, we liked the food. The venue was really charming and we had a good table on the mezzanine with a great view of the stage. To be honest, its our own fault - we should have researched the band before turning up but we thought wed take a risk as we all like jazz but none of us had really had much experience of free jazz previously and it wasnt our favourite. There were bits we liked about the music but we will forever be haunted by the very long song with the repeating lyrics "the darkness, the darkness, the darkness is in your apartment, its in your compartment, its in the crack of your derriere" - sing that at anyone for 15 minutes and theyll be haunted by it too. Our waiter was attentive and friendly and looked after us very well. The verdict: We didnt love the particular band we saw but we would go back to see a different one as we liked the venue and food.

As a regular patron of Jazz Clubs in NYC I was thoroughly disappointed with my experience at this venue. After arriving 30 minutes early, the show began 28 minutes late. Our server was unable to provide ANY information on any of the wines on their list. However, they did end on time and made sure to "move" the patrons out of the club for the next session, essentially curtailing 1/3 of the show due to the late start time. When I asked to speak to the manager about my disappointment, due to the fact that this was a birthday gift for which the person was present, I was greeted with hostility and resentment. I as the customer had to talk the manager down, who ironically was also the beverage director of a staff who knows nothing about their own wine list, and request that he stop taking such an aggressive posture towards me. To which he responded "you approached me in a aggressive stance and as a manager it is my job to do the same back." It is highly unfortunate that such a venue, with its notoriety in location and the acts that it bills cares so little about its customer service let alone caring enough to simply start on time. I truly was excited to come to this establishment but left feeling like I paid to be insulted and pretty much given the feeling that my money was not good there. I do realize all places have bad nights but Ive been treated better at other historic jazz clubs that are struggling to stay alive in this city and have a $5 cover. Go there to see a living legend when they are on the bill but dont expect much from anything else.

Iridium is one of the most accommodating and friendly people I have ever met. Its refreshing to see in the New York scene...you can count on Iridium for any of your party needs. He even has connections in Vegas. Iridium has always taken care of my friends and me countless times and we have always been treated like royalty. From the hottest pool parties to the swankiest New York hot spots he does it all! Very genuine guy that really does care about everyone with no ulterior motives. Thanks Iridium!

Ive only been here when at least one, though typically more, jazz legend is playing. Which might be always, honestly. The drinks are expensive, and there is a minimum, but decent. Food is not bad, although I really dont remember it. But the music is out of this world. I heard Les Paul there a few years ago and will never forget it. Its just outside Times Square, so expect a lot of people in the area but few going in. Ive only seen them start one set on time but I dont care- worth the wait.

iridium is my favorite club in the city. They have a huge wine list , great Italian food and the best sound system by far, of any club in the city. I have seen Mike Stern, Ted Nugent and some of the best guitarists in the world there. Am I a regular? You bet. Even their FaceBook postings show a level of detail that no one else has- they stream shows live as well and I have expanded my universe of music because of this club. Keep doing what youre doing iridium!

It took over 20 minutes for someone to take our drink order while several of the wait staff stood around talking to each other. There wasnt even 25 people in the joint yet. We ordered 2 appetizers and they both were below average. I dont mind paying for good food but the meat and cheese trays were lame. The jazz was exceptional. Worth the cover charge. Just plan on drinking somewhere else before you go and eating somewhere else later.

50$ pour une musique "jazz" inexistante ou du moins un CD qui tourne en boucle. Un service médiocre, des serveurs peu aimables. Les plats sont dignes dune cantine, même un simple plat comme des pâtes nest pas réussi.

Im a bit disappointed about the experience getting into the Iriduim jazz club. The line outside was a mess.... I mean seriously how do you botch such a simple process. Folks that arrived first essentially were asked to enter last! Absolutely the worst logistical execution Ive ever seen. The music was awesome. Place sounds wonderful. Totally enjoyed our seats. But man they need to figure out a simple way to enter.

WHAT A GREAT JAZZ CLUB. I HAD NOT BEEN HERE FOR A LONG TIME SINCE THEY MOVED FROM LINCOLN CENTER AND I AM KICKING MYSELF...GREAT NEW PASTAS, HUGE WINE LIST AND TERRIFIC SERVICE. I HAVE BEEN TO A COUPLE OF "LES PAUL" MONDAYS AND CAUGHT ALBERT LEE AND PRIOR TO THAT TED NUGENT. THIS PLACE IS A TREASURE AND THEIR SCHEDULE HAS A REALLY DIVERSE SET OF MUSICIANS. ONE OF THE BETTER PLACES TO HIT ON THE WEST SIDE!

How strange, I recently contacted the Iridium regarding an artist that was advertised to be playing and upon arriving at the venue, was told this artist was not going to be playing and the person I spoke with was the manager named Chelsea Johnson. Is the review below a coincidence or a bogus review by the manager, Chelsea Johnson and a low blow at BB Kings for in fact being a much superior establishment?

Great jazz club in the theatre district. Unlike most jazz clubs in NYC, this place has edgy hard electronic jam bands as well as more traditional acoustic jazz bands. I like the diverse bands that play here. Sometimes even heavy metal guitarists play here. Its definitely different from the traditional jazz places like village vanguard. But I really like the extreme and unique guitarists who play here.
