I recently saw Whiplash at Malverne Cinema and boy was the movie fantastic. It was intense, smart, extremely well acted, and had me on the edge of my seat. Miles Teller and JK Simmons were fantastic in their roles. Going into the last 10 minutes of the film I was ready to rate this theater a 3/5 but the last 10 min were some of the most intense minuets of my life. For how good the movies ending was I give the theater a 5/5. There was also some traffic in the street outside, but not too bad. The parking was great. On my way I saw a train cross in front of my car. I always get excited when i get to see trains, so I stuck around at the station for a while and watched a few more go by. Eventually I got on a train, rode it for a few stops and then came back. Unfortunately I missed my movie but there were later showings so everything turned out all right. I would definitely recommend watching trains if you havent already, marvels of innovation. But, I do think it is time to upgrade to high speed rail. Countries like Japan, and Germany have trains that travel significantly faster than ours. We could cut down on travel times between long distances and create alternatives for air travel. Hopefully the two drive each others prices down. Regardless I am super stoked for the future. Who knows whats next. SAVE NET NEUTRALITY/ FUND SPACE PROGRAMS/ HIGH SPEED TRAINSSSS!/ CONSIDER NUCLEAR ENERGY/ PUT CAMERAS ON COPS

POSITIVE(S): Indie, foreign & future Academy Award (Oscar)-bait films play here earlier than other theaters (if they play in those theaters at all). The theaters cultured films attracts an older, more serious customer set allowing customers to avoid the loud children and teens often seen at big theater chains playing superhero/action/animated films. Parking is available directly behind the theater. The kind of films Ive seen here during their early run prior to their Oscar-nominations include Spotlight, Birdman, Whiplash, The Imitation Game & The Tree of Life. NEGATIVE(S): The bathroom is small (though clean). The food selection is very small. The box office is outside & very small and in the rare event of big lines, you will be waiting outside (hopefully not in any undesirable elements). Theater operation is more adjusted to pre-2000s systems rather than the high-tech atmosphere of many modern theaters. There is no ticket kiosk, online reservations or ATMs and they do not accept credit/debit cards (though a bank is across the street). The seats are not as good as more modern theaters. OVERALL: If you truly love cinema beyond Hollywood tentpoles, this is the place to go. The films you often can only catch in select theaters in Manhattan play here where parking is easier. Highly recommended for any cinema lovers in the Long Island/Queens area.

Its not exactly your normal theater. They have a fantastic collection of films here and most are ones youve never heard of but probably should have. However the halls are small and you will feel cramped in your seat. If you are a plus plus size you will, no joke, not fit in the seat. Popcorn and soda prices are more affordable than other theaters and OK to good quality. Ticket prices are also good, but CASH ONLY, and on Wednesdays they have a cool matinee price on all movies all day.

I just went to this theater for the first time. I echo the other reviews, The prices were good, both for tickets and for snacks. The theater was clean. There was ample parking (although it might not have been as easy for the earlier shows). It is so near my house. As I look at the present selection of movies, and the upcoming movies, i am sure I will be back here often.

I love this theater, the customer service is very good! The place is always clean ( both the rest area & seating ). I must say that I havent tried anything from the refreshments area but it appears well kept. Its a smaller quieter place, always with an eclectic movie selection and they do sprinkle in some mainstream choices as well. I / we have been going about 3 years so far.

Absolutely the BEST selection of interesting independent films around. This theater is a classic point of interest in this area - and between the Malverne Diner (right next door), Our Towne Grill (1 minute down the road), and Uva Rosa (2 minutes away), theres always lots of before or after theater fare to top off your day!

I love indie film and we are so lucky to have the Malverne theatre on the south shore of Long Island. It has always been my go to place. I like the small intimate feel, reasonable prices. Why does the kiosk have to be hi tech or enclosed. Its great just the way it is!! Delicious popcorn too!

Classic small town movie theater. Theaters arent amazing, but there are rarely a significant amount of people so you can view in peace. Edit: Forgot to mention the incredible staff that make this theater truly shine.

Great cozy little theatre that often shows excellent quality, non mainstream movies that mature audiences can enjoy without the ruckus of the immature crowd. Just wish the seating was a bit more comfortable.
