If I could choose 0 Stars rather than one I would certainly do so. I would not recommend anyone come to this Theatre. There were several bands playing. I was in the third row in the center seat. It was the best seat that I could get when they first came out. A woman in the row in front of me stated that she gets free tickets because she donates to the theater. During the first two bands we were allowed stand in front of the stage and watch them. They then decided that only the first two rows would be given this privilege. This also confused me. My ticket was row A? Although I paid the same amount of money as the people in the 2 rows ahead of me only the first two rows were allowed. So I chose to do what is right and speak for the people who chose to pay more to enjoy the bands. I spoke with the manager I asked her if the people in the two rows ahead of me had paid more for their seats. She said she couldnt answer that. She said its a fire code and we can only let the first two rows in. So what I told her was that I will count the empty seats in the first two rows and if there are more people in front of the stage then there are empty seats obviously theres a problem. As the next band took the stage there were more people standing in front of the stage then there were empty seats. So if the manager was right, they did in fact violate the safety code. So the two security men that were blocking the entrance were choosing who they would prefer to have there. When you choose people who donate to your theater rather than the people who pay you for seats you have a serious problem with how you run your business. There are many theaters in New Jersey and a close ride to New York City. I would suggest going to one of those theaters not this one

If I could give this 0 stars I would! First of all, the theater is dingy and old! But I can deal with that for a good show! Had the worst experience of my life. Went to see Elf with my kids (5 and 7). Show had not started yet so I left them in their seats for what I thought would be 30-40 seconds just to run to the back to get the boosters. The usher KNEW that I had my kids sitting alone and he told me I would have to LEAVE MY ID at the gift shop and pay $2 each for the boosters (That in itself is RIDICULOUS!!!!) Never have I seen that at ANY other theater! Anyway, so I give the lady the $$, grab the boosters and run back to the door (Which by the way is 10 feet from where I was and where the usher, JOHN was standing). He closes the doors and says "sorry, maam I cant let you in" as the theater goes dark to start the show! I tell him, "But you know my kids are in there ALONE!!!!" he says, "sorry, rules are rules"!!! They made me wait 8 MINUTES to let me know and my kids were SO scared!!! Another mom experienced the same thing when she came out to get her daughter water!!! They brought her daughter out SOBBING!!!!! my kids were also very upset but luckily were sitting next to a very nice older couple who calmed them down. Absolutely outrageous! Will NEVER attend a show there and hope JOHN gets fired!!! DO NOT go here with your kids...very kid UNFRIENDLY!!

We opted to come to the state theater to see Sesame Street Live over other venues like MSG and Philly, mostly due to travel/locale. Could not have been happier with our decision! The State Theater is easy to get to, and has decent local parking options. The inside was much smaller than I would have imagined, but it was not cramped whatsoever - the aisles and rows are very well spaced, and the seats are spacious and comfortable. Plenty of leg and elbow room! The bonus of the smaller venue, is there really isnt a bad seat! We sat Orchestra, Row J, and could see everything perfectly. We had a great time, and will definitely see more shows here whenever possible.

Cute theater, but the staff there seems annoyed people are attending. Saw Jewel last friday and have a lovely usher bark at us to get to our seats despite there being no rush 20 minutes before the opener. Anyone who performs here, you will be recorded by attendees. Even after Jewel commented that the flash photography was bothering her the ushers couldnt be bothered to do anything. I guess this place is good if you are looking for a job where you just sit around for a few hours. In short, stick to venues run by professionals, High School Auditoriums have higher standards.

Ive seen a few musicals (west side story, sister act, anything goes and a bugs bunny movie with the nj symphony playing the score.) The productions were Broadway quality material. For that Id give it 5 stars. But the ushers are unprofessional and rude. Not even sure what their job is since you still have to find your seat on your own(not Broadway quality behavior.) All they do is give you a program and be rude to your 80plus yr old mother when she tried to change her seat.

Great seating & great show. Aside from a rude Usher (that i guess took one look at me and thought i shouldnt be able to afford third row seats or something) and an obviously ill woman coughing up a storm right behind me everything else was great. 1 side note. you are not allowed to enter the theater with any food or drinks that you buy in the lobby. So I suggest getting a bite or drinks before the show. There are many nice places within walking distance.

I will never attend another concert at the State. Being a wheelchair user, when a concert begins, everybody stands. If youre a wheelchair user, the only thing that you will see are the backs of people. When I suggested that wheelchairs be seated down in front, I was referred to as a fire hazard. Imagine that, being referred to as a fire hazard. As if I were an old broken piece of furniture. NEVER AGAIN.

A nice small venue to get up and close with since of the larger touring shows. They get a lot of the shows that also so at NJPAC. The theater is walking distance from the train station if you would like to avoid traffic. They also have a good childrens program for different ages. Seats are a little cramped, but other then that is a pleasant place to see a show.

The biggest problem is that the seats are not very comfortable or offer much leg room. If youre big and tall, like me, thats more of an issue. Im not sure if they can do anything about this or not. If theres a show that I want to see, I will try to get the chair seats in the balconies closest to the stage. Otherwise, its not a bad place.

First of all parking was so hard to find. I finally parked in the Church Street Parking Lot and could not believe it cost $9.00. The show the Elf was great but so expensive for a drink ($4.00 for a cup of soda, $8.00 for a small popcorn, etc.) Next time I will bring my own snack and try to find parking on the street.
