Its always a treat to visit the Historic Smithville Park in NJ. Its a beautifully preserved self-contained "Industrial Village" that was originally built around 1800 with a dam, sawmill, and gristmill. Later it grew to be self sustaining, replete with a farm complex, water turbines, factory, school, stable, a boarding house for single (male) employees, and a village full of homes. Today there are lovely streets and original buildings to explore, as well as well-maintained hiking trails.

I LOVE this place-great trails, diverse scenery, great rentable venues (extremely affordable), peaceful, 3 different parking areas provide 3 different starting points & views of the park. Dont miss Smith Woods across the road from the mansion, and look for the eagles, too!

Trails, lakes for fishing with eagles catching fish nearby. Victorian era museum that is decorated at Christmas and interesting walking tours that you can do by yourself or with a group. Beautiful grounds and extremely affordable for families.
