I gave the course itself 4 stars, its a nice city course with plenty of scoring opportunities for even decent golfers. Big trees and you can hear the city noises as you play. However, I gave the management 1 star. Ive played this course 20+ times over the last few years and pace of play is consistently a problem (even on weekdays). If you dont have 5 hours to waste, then I would recommend going elsewhere. Playing as a single or a twosome here, you will undoubtedly run into slow paced groups out. Older men/women (lots of fivesomes!) love to play this course, which is great, but they have forgotten their golf etiquette. Letting fast groups play through is not common nature here, and the rangers do not monitor the pace of play or pause slow groups to let those behind them play through. Ive addressed the situation before and nothing has changed,. Ill gladly come back here and update my rating if I notice a consistent change in pace of play, but I believe they are set in their ways at this point and its unfortunate for a would be fun city course.

One of the reviews is from a few years ago when even a lot of the staff will admit the course was in rough shape. I just recently moved to the NE Minneapolis area and Gross is the closest and most affordable in the area. The staff at Gross has talked to customers about projects they have been doing and continue to do to improve the course. I have played the course about 12 times this year as early as April and now in late September and the course is in great shape. The tee-boxes, fairways, greens, and even the sandtraps and rough are all maintained well and have been for most of the season. I am usually able to get a tee time in the morning, afternoon and evenings during the week and on weekends without much hassle and pace of play is usually pretty casual and has a good flow. Its a great course for average/intermediate golfers and can have challenges for advanced golfers as well.

One of the reviewers said that he thought Gross was in good shape. I think hes on crack. Its one of the poorest conditioned courses that Ive played. I wouldnt bother playing there until mid summer or even the fall. Its really shameful what the citys ownership has done to the course. Theyve turned a great layout to an embarrassment. I play competitive tournaments around the state and cant play at Gross because the conditions arent realistic - from the fairways being half mud with millions of dirt holes, to the earthworm ridden and dodgy lie roughs, to the greens that are slow in some parts, fast in others. The city should sell Gross to a private group, get more funding for the course, or get a new superintendant.

Very challenging, but very fun course (Im generally a bogey golfer, for reference). Very well maintained for being a municipal course

Good course, fair pricing, can play a tad bit short, but ive yet to break par, so it must have other challenges to keep it in line.

Wide open for the most part, a little noisy on the course due to businesses. Short driving range. Its a good deal though.

Well maintained, good layout, challenging, and enjoyable Audobon course. Friendly club house staff. Slow weekend play.

This course is my favorite of the five Minneapolis public courses. It takes me to a different time when I play here.

First time playing here. Not a long course by any means but the greens were fast to make it challenging.

Challenges every part of your game. Bunkers need better quality sand though. Leagues start early.
