I have been to this place dozens of times and it just seems to have greatly gone down hill. I have not dined here before during the day but mostly gone for the nightlife/after hours scene that develops in the bar area. Let me start off by saying that the drinks here are highly overpriced and the bartenders are inattentive and not the friendliest. At one point I tried to close out my tab at the end of the night. It took about 10-15 minutes to get a bartenders attention. This isnt unusual either and the bartenders had more interest in catering to people who came to the bar after I had been waiting there for service. After I got my bill, I paid and tipped well without even scanning how much I paid because it was my buddys birthday and I was in a rush. I called the next day and spoke to a manager to find out what exactly was on my receipt(because I was curious if my buddies put anything on my tab and the receipt doesnt specify anything) and it all added up to what I bought, the problem was how much they charged me. I have worked at bars before and been in the club scene plenty but never in my life have I heard of a shot called an "Irish Car Bomb" costing $20 EACH. They were considered premium drinks and while I expect to pay more for shots, that is beyond exorbitant. I have paid less money for shots of Patron before in other quality establishments. So come to find out weeks later, my buddies and I decided to go back there. In talking with my buddies I was informed by one of them that a male bartender there ran his mouth to one of my friends about what I did(calling the manager to verify what I bought) essentially saying some disparaging things about me to my friends. VERY unprofessional of them to do so. I went there anyway again with another group. The lousy serviced persisted. I tried to cash out my bar tab and it took 10-15 minutes again, people behind me were serviced before me several times. Then when I got my overpriced tab again, I waited to talk to a bartender to clarify what was on my tab because I bought 5 drinks including two shots and it was over $50. This was with discounted drinks too because I had bought one of their glasses. They took ten minutes and then I just walked out. I had $10 added on the tip line to my tab and was charged. I had to make a claim to my credit card company about their falsification and they took the extra $10 off. I will NEVER go here again and I encourage anybody to not go here anymore..at least at night. Lousy service, overpriced drinks and not even quality mixtures at that. Terrible place to enjoy yourself and lousy bartenders. The incompetency is just overwhelming and the managers need to get a hold on it before more people decide to not return. Hot Tuna is officially Cold now.

I must say very horrible expirience. I placed an order for pick-up. While waiting on an order that was supposed to be done in (15) for 10 more minutes I spoke with someone at the bar. Upon beginning to pay I realized I had the wrong card in hand and told them Id be back just needed to grab the right one from the car. A man by the bar offered to pay for me and I thanked them and left. Next thing I know I look at my phone 40 minutes later and have 2 messages and a total of 4 missed calls from the owner saying hed send me to jail for theft and that I left without paying etc. Saying he would call the cops etc. (A. Cops legally could not have done anything in this case. B. So unprofessional, just call and ask what happened...you have my info, empty rude threats to the only person of color in the restaurant at the moment arent nessecary). I call back and nicely (no matter how offened I was by the messages) tell him the situation and apologize on my behalf as that was a very embarrassing situation for me and proceed to offer to pay. I get a half ass apology saying sorry for the messages "if thats really what happened". Mind you the bill was $35 dollars for a ceaser salad, an appetizer of BBQ chicken nachos with less than crisp chips, and a slice of key lime pie with a soggy crust. On top of this I met the manager and said hello while INSIDE of the restaurant. He seemed so nice to then turn and flip that demeanor around to leave such rude messages. ONE nice call asking what happened would have been perfectly sufficient and way less rude. No matter how disgusted I was by the managers behavior I still made sure to treat him nicely and apologize on my behalf but I promise I would NEVER go back to the place. Save your money and just go somewhere closer to the beach (Like Calypso) as they are much nicer and have fresher + nicer food for the price. Try their lobster mac

The food and service here is consistently great. When ordering the "original" mojito, ask them to leave off the key lime foam. Its the nastiest addition theyve put on their drinks lately and it ruins it. The music is also a little loud and can ruin the ambience, especially at night. The parmesean tuna is delicious with a delectable cream sauce. The lettuce wraps are delicious. They also have a nice selection of fresh caught fish specials that are often to die for. Their prices can run a bit high, but thats normal for this part of Virginia Beach. A locals hot spot for sure and I definitely recommend this restaurant to anybody looking for a great seafood restaurant with delicious food and awesome service.

Riley helped us make this rather large rehearsal dinner affordable for us by suggesting several options for keeping the cost down while still leaving us with several choices for entrees on our buffet. He also helped accommodate our rather large party by extending tables out from the private room into the restaurants main dining room. The staff was amazing. Glasses were kept full, they were very attentive and handled the chaos of the large party (with tons of kids under age of 6) with finesse. We were also very pleased with the quality of the food. We highly recommend Hot Tuna for rehearsal dinners or any other large event you plan to host.

I go to Hot Tuna all the time with friends! We love eating there, the food is amazing and the drinks are fabulous! We always start with the Shrimp Trio which has 3 styles of fried shrimp with their signature sauces. There is enough to share with all of my friends. My favorite entree is the parmesan tuna, which is a fillet of tuna sautéed with a parmesan mushroom basil sauce overtop some homemade mashed potatoes. And of course they have amazing mojitos which are very refreshing! Also, we always stay for the band or DJ which start around 10 and have an amazing night! Would highly recommend to anyone!

Went in there on a Saturday night to get some drinks with my finace and we literally walked in a circle and left. We couldnt even get to the bar..way too many people in such a small area.. dont think its safe. It looks like a fun place..thats why we stopped but should be bigger and have more bars..even if we did get a drink... I dont think we could enjoy ourselves because it was so crowded. So we left went to Kellys Tavern and had a blast.. and we got our drinks in less then 2 minutes!!
