First off, my wife and I are convinced that if it wasnt for the other vendors we chose, we wouldnt have been married that day. We wouldnt have even made it to the wedding day. We went through three coordinators after booking. Each time, explaining everything all over again. This all during a years timeframe. 4 months after we booked the venue, we got word that they fired the majority of the staff and that they were closing from one of our friends who knew someone that worked there. We panicked and called the venue, only to receive a very rude and brash phone call back. The second coordinator Sheila was very hard to work with. We would contact her via phone or email only to never receive a phone call back. The ball was consistently dropped. We would go weeks without any follow through on multiple occasions. We had to meet with her to test the river rock in their bowls at the venue. Should have been a 5 minute meeting. It wasnt. We waited 45 minutes for her to finish with the prior meeting and there was no acknowledgement from her during that time frame. Three weeks before our wedding we had another meeting scheduled with her. We came in only to find a locked door and nobody there. Some time after we were greeted at the door by the owners wife. She informed us that they couldnt get a hold of Sheila and that she was going to take over the coordination. We had to explain all of the plans to her again. Sheila came in an hour late and then we had to re-explain everything again to her. We also explained that we didnt want the pepper plants that were in the barrels at the ceremony site. We were told it was no problem to get rid of them by the owners wife. Two weeks before our wedding we received an email from Penny stating that she was the new coordinator and she wanted to meet. We had to explain everything AGAIN to her. Shortly after our meeting, we were told that the pepper plants would not be removed. We had to beg and plead multiple times to get them to remove them. They looked horrible and would have been in our photos. It took many emails and a whole days time to finally get our final BEO and invoice. There were many issues the day of that should not have happened. Our ceremony was rained out and the staff did not have the backup plan in place. We had to have our wedding on the balcony, which was better anyway. Penny left before dinner time causing the serving staff to not know what was going on. They didnt know what the stamps on the escort cards meant even though this was given to the venue weeks prior. We had to explain what food items were for each stamp. We had ordered a one off meal for my cousin only to find out that the staff told my cousin that it wasnt ordered and they would not make it. We had to get involved at this point to get them to make it. The serving staff didnt know how to serve meals and were putting the plates on top of the serving tray tops. The food was not served timely and they did not have enough staff helping. An hour later, they did not have the food out to all of the tables. We had to complain because half of the staff was sitting in the back room. The champagne was not on the head table like we asked. All in all our wedding was great because we had an awesome wedding planner. She is the reason our day even happened. If youre going to book this venue, be sure to hire a wedding planner. You will need it!

Lets start off by saying that the venue is GORGEOUS!!!!!! How can you not love endless views of the Mississippi River with the fall colors surrounding you. The outdoor ceremony site is just unreal since you are standing feet away from the Mississippi River. You cannot have a prettier back drop. There is a bridge that you have to go under just before the entrance of the golf course and it is only has 10 foot 4 inch? clearance which both our party bus and hotel shuttle could not fit under. It took our bus and shuttle 20-25 minutes to get from the hotel to the venue which would only take 8 minutes if you could go under the bridge. We found out on the way to the venue and arrived 30 minutes late. We did call Mississippi Dunes and Penny was able to give an alternate route which saved the day. The food was good and we heard good things about the salmon, Jack Daniels Chicken, and Jack Daniels Sirloin. We were set up with a private food tasting due to all the complications we had early on with the staff. The portions we were served at the wedding were A LOT smaller than what we were shown at the food tasting. We also received a different salad than we had agreed upon. I was hesitant to sign a contract at this site because of its horrible reviews. I started working with a lady that promised me a lot of things and so I made her write it in the contract. Everything seemed to be going fine and then I would not hear back to phone calls or texts. No one would answer the phone at Mississippi Dunes and the voicemail says "check out our new things for 2014." She took a emergency leave 3 weeks before my wedding and the new lady was left with nothing. I had to meet with the new lady, Penny, and completely redo all the wedding plans I had made with the previous lady. So pretty much I had to cover 10 months of planning into a half hour meeting. She honored all the extras I put in the contract and was very organized. She was very quick to respond to emails and was very helpful. I was very organized and detailed and Penny took all my small details I requested into consideration. She even sat with me for a half hour trying to get a slide show to work earlier in the wedding week. She had the room set up early for me so it made my wedding day less stressful. She was there for me early in the day and was willing to help out where needed. She was a pleasure to work with. I think Penny will do a great job moving forward. The lady that was in charge of serving the dinner did a great job as well. She was very professional and always asked questions when needed. If there was a problem, she fixed it right away. Also, if you plan on having a slideshow that uses those cool wedding picture apps, make sure you bring in a hot spot. Their internet did not work at all so I spent money on the photo slide show that did not work. Ultimately, I liked having my wedding at this site. I had a lot of frustrating moments working with the changing staff but I overcame those with being very organized. I think Penny is a great addition to the venue and hopefully will help change the negative reviews people have for this place.

Let me start this review by saying that if it were not for the newest set of coordinators, Nate & Linda, this review would not be five stars, but because of them, it is! This review starts rough but has a happy ending so bare with me! My husband and I were married here on 5/28/2016. We started planning at the beginning of 2015 and were put through the absolute ringer and left stressed beyond belief. Two months before our wedding, we actually contemplated trying to find somewhere new. We went through 4 different wedding coordinators in that time span and each time a new one came in, suddenly the rules changed too and nothing we had been told before was ever correct according to each new coordinator. It was an absolute headache and if I would not have been so detail oriented in my planning and counting on the venue itself for very little, our day would have been a disaster. They would never contact us to set up meetings or let us know information we needed so it was always me needing to stay on top of them. No bride should have to be as stressed as I was with this venue. Not to mention, I had no confidence in the people who were supposed to be pulling my wedding together from the venue side. It was miserable. The week of my wedding, I received a call from a very eccentric man named Nate who called himself the "details" guy. Although at first all I could think was "another new coordinator THE WEEK OF MY WEDDING.. this cant be happening." However, it ended up being the best possible thing that happened to us during our entire time planning with the Dunes! Nate & his wife Linda were AMAZING to work with! Nate was always on top of getting ahold of me to keep me updated on what was going on and check to see if there was anything I needed. He was always in high spirits and full of optimism which was such a relief for me! If it were not for the two of them and the staff they had on our wedding night, it would not have been the perfect wedding that it was! These two honestly swooped in and saved the day! I am beyond grateful to them for being so attentive, helpful, detail oriented, accommodating and cheerful! They went above and beyond what they had to in order to make sure my dream wedding went off without any issues and I can confidently say, IT WAS PERFECT thanks to them! With Nate & Linda in charge, I would recommend this venue to anyone! With the two of them, you are in excellent hands and your day will be just as perfect as ours was! Thank you so much Nate & Linda! You are such amazing people and I dont know what we would have done without you! The Dunes is a better place because of you already!
