The experience was nice and the hosts were very courteous and understood the balance between hosting/educating and giving parties their space to enjoy their tastings. They had a menu of cheeses, bread and olives to choose from. Some jam and good meats would have made for a nice round plate for the wines but they do allow you to bring outside food which is great. They also have a beautiful outside area and the kids had a great time running around and climbing the boulders. The wine tasting was very generous, but not a lot of options from what I saw. It was just one tasting for $10 and you got 2 whites and 3 reds. No single tastings available but I might be wrong. All in all, a nice place to get a glass or a bottle and go outside with some cheese and crackers and enjoy the beautiful scenery with one or ten friends. I had a great afternoon there.

The tour guide was amazing, showing how this winery strives to be self-sufficient, all wines made with ingredients grown on the estate. They have a farmstead with cows that supply manure for the grapes, grass-grown roof portions, hay and mud walls on the warehouse, air and solar power, well. They implement the new way of growing grapes (dense plantings, culled clusters). The port wine was amazing, Terra Dulce II. The small restaurant served fresh baguette, olives, raw milk blue cheese and other cheeses to go with the wine. I saw small parties who brought picnic food to go with the tour and wine. We went on a perfectly beautiful day and were very pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth a visit. The wine is expensive, but I didnt mind since it isnt like I go there every day. I got some Christmas presents (the port) to show off a Maryland product.

Black ankle is a fantastic example of where Maryland wineries are going. One of the few that is completely estate, meaning they grow, make and bottle their own wine, the quality shows in their wine. The owners are passionate about what they are doing which is evident when you talk to them about their vision and wine making philosophy. Caitlyn, their manager, (forgive me if I spelled wrong) is amazing. One of the nicest, most bubbly people I have ever met. And she knows wine! People complain about the price, wine is a luxury product. If you dont want to pay, go elsewhere. Their price reflects their desire to be a small boutique winery that focuses on quality. I support that! Wine is not easy to make, especially on the east coast. Support your local farmers.

We were in the area to hit up a couple vineyards to help complete our wine passport. This was recommend to us by Linganore and certainly didnt disappoint! As you first enter you are reminded of a scene from middle earth as you enter "the shire". The staff are super friendly, energetic, and knowledgeable. While the wine tasting was on the high end (compared to other vineyards ) the experience we had made it our favourite vineyard. Jamie was amazing as per wine hostess! Her tour was very informative and awesome! By far, this vineyard had the best energy, paired with its stunning beauty, made it our favourite to date.

We drink mostly Spanish and West Coast 90+ wines. Did not expect to find any winery in Maryland (or on the East Coast for that matter) with this quality. The reds we tasted (Feldspar and 2012 Rolling Hills) were very good and definitely vie for 90+ ratings (just our opinions). Bought some and took them home. Will buy more next time we are in Maryland. Had a blind tasting and shocked our friends, and believe me, that is hard to do! Congrats to the winery and their staff - Brian, especially!!

Our group had such a wonderful time at Black Ankle. The server was excellent and knew a lot about all of the wines as well as the construction of the new building, which is eco-friendly and gorgeous. We were able to bring our own picnic and sit out on the beautiful patio. It was a truly enjoyable experience and I know everyone in our group is excited to return soon!!

The wine was mediocre at best and drastically overpriced. The tasting was expensive for the number of wines that were offered. The grounds were very aesthetically pleasing, but it was obvious that this place is all show and little substance. The server seemed to become distraught if you did not absolutely love each wine she poured.

I really like this place. Definitely has a very "northern california" vibe to it. Shot an engagement shoot here once- the owners were very easy to deal with. Great wine, and a fantastic local cheese selection to boot! Go tour the place- you wont be disappointed.

This is the best wine Ive had on the East coast. I didnt think it was possible! Theyre very laid back and the setting is stunning. Local cheese and baguettes are for sale for picnicing and are very reasonably priced. Love coming here and its so close too!

Relatively new - but their limited selection is all good and the outdoor venue is ideal for a good time. Looking forward to get back and experiencing an actual outdoor event. Great for hangin out with friends or alone as a couple.

We are members here. Solid wines from Maryland, nothing that will knock your socks off, but consistently good. Staff is always friendly and accommodating. Plenty of space to picnic and enjoy an evening with live music too.

The wines here are all on the dry side, but I found them to be quite good. The building is very cool, made from eco-friendly materials. They also gave us a tour of the winery and the process. This was a nice experience.

Visually stunning winery, 10 steps above Linganore Winery in my opinion is wine and scenery. My wife and I typically stay with red wines, but for something really different try the Gruner Veltliner, outstanding!

Love this place. Their wine is excellent and I was thoroughly impressed. Even with my snobby California bias to wines. Sit and have a bottle of wine here too. They have delicious baguettes, cheese and salami

The winery is nice . but the selection was small and way over priced ! The wine tasting was very expensive they didnt have water to rinse your glass out and they didnt have crackers for your taste buds.

Great reds in MD! Finally! Very nice atmosphere, servers really know wine, and all locally grown. Very good wine club option too. For people who have several CA wine club memberships, we will be back.

Nice little winery. Good wine, by east coast standards. Fun visit and they offer local cheeses which stole the show in my opinion.
