My Daughter attended Urbana dance. Initially It seemed to be the right fit. A fresh start for her and a fast talking, energetic dance studio owner with great visions for the kids. I was sold! It soon became apparent that there was more going on under the hood. Simply put...somethings broke! What I initially interpreted as new and energetic soon became better defined as slapdash and scatterbrained. Every week was filled with some kind of drama, randomness, mass disorganization, ill-planned lessons, and a complete lack of leadership. Several times we were there 7 days straight and all day Sunday with no real point or direction. Another week we had an impromptu rehearsal at an "undisclosed until the last minute" parking lot due to a poorly managed "double booking" at the dance studio. Some of the girls ended up with injuries because of dancing on an improper dance surface…cement! While I am all for making whatever time investment I can for my childs future it helps to provide them with some level of consistency in a learning environment. At weekend dance company competitions the teachers were scarce to be found when it came time to support the kids while performing. My general observation was that the teachers were more concerned with using the weekends competition as an excuse to have a night on the town then to be there and lead the dance team. In one year we spent the equivalent of 3 years worth of tuition and fees when compared to our other dance studios. Again, I am all for the cost of admission for my childs future. What I can say is that while there seemed to be a great deal of time and effort spent with the kids there was very little consistency in content and proper dance instruction to be found. Needless to say we left extremely unhappy and with a much lighter wallet. Perhaps this place might be the right fit for you if you have a toddler that wants to learn a short dance number dressed in a cute bunny suit for your mother-in-law. However if you are serious about your child and dance and desire overall positive experience Urbana Dance is NOT the place for you.

My wife and I recently moved to Frederick from Bethesda and our youngest was trying to decide between dance and cheerleading. We were told about Urbana Dance by our next door neighbor who goes there and who met one of the owners when they held a birthday party at the studio and had a great time. We met with Sonya and she was totally understanding of our situation. She encouraged us to try out the studio but also encouraged us to cheer as well. She was quite honestly the first dance teacher that we have met that did not put the full court press on us and encouraged our daughter to see what SHE wanted to do. The staff is very friendly our daughter is having a blast. The new studio is soooooooo cute!

Dont waste your time or your money- Worst Studio ever. There are so many other professional studios in Frederick area that care about the children and actually dance education. The most I have paid for a studio and the least I have gotten in return. The level of greed is just disgusting! Do your research.
