When you are looking for a inspirational place to have a cup of coffee or get a little work done, Signs of Life is a great destination. They use PT’s Coffee which is made right in Topeka, Kansas. They have an excellent selection of seasonal and traditional beverages such as lattes and mochas. Bottomless cups of coffee are always appreciated and this is one of the few places you can get decaf at night. I always find that funny ‘cause you want a non-caffeine option at night, not during the day, but that’s just me. The place can get busy and most seating is small tables so it’s hard if you are looking to accommodate a large study group. During peak times the Internet can be spotty. A small “cozy’ area has a few large chairs and a couch. Along with your coffee and other drinks, they have a variety of backed goods made locally or regionally and in particular povitica bread, the yummy Eastern European ethnic treat. They are one of the only places I’ve seen it at in Lawrence and it’s a treat not to be missed. Staff is friendly and helpful and they don’t make you carry around a punch card: they track it all on their computer. Nice! Oh and they are a Lawrence Giveback member as well. I’ve been upstairs to the art gallery and it’s a wonderful space and a key part of the Lawrence Art Scene. The bookstore aspect of it has a Christian focus, but they have a variety of secular books. Although it is a religious bookstore, if that’s not your thing, don’t let it get in the way. Nobody is going to preach to you there or try to convert you. Everyone is welcome here! For obvious reasons, they are closed on Sundays.

Signs of Life has my three favorite things: books, art and coffee. You dont like coffee? No problem! They have a cup of tea for you and its excellent! It is a great place to find fantastic art, a good book, or a unique gift or card. Also during your visit, you will enjoy a warm atmosphere and friendly help. In addition, there is live music a few evenings a week. For your convenience, there is a conference room available for your groups meeting, and a beautiful spacious art gallery that may be your dream place for a class reunion or rehearsal dinner. On the cafe side, there are freshly-baked-on-site goodies such as scones to compliment your coffee, and yummy sandwiches to satisfy your lunch-time munchies. Definitely - check it out!.

Located on N. Mass Street, Signs of Life is a unique shopping and cafe experience. The store has a strong selection of books, most notably titles about Christianity, politics, the arts, and society at large. Every time I visit, I plan to give myself plenty of time to wander the stores aisles because theres so much to take in and, more often than not, I walk away with something unexpected or new. Also, all the sales associates and cafe baristas are super friendly and go out of their way to help customers find what theyre looking for.

I love the unique take of the book store/coffee shop marriage of ideas. Signs of Life has a beautiful "Lawrence" feel to it with its historical building and decor; the book store; vegetarian and organic options; and extensive beverage list. It is even an adventure for me to go there since it has so many options for beverage and seating. I will say one thing, though.... make sure you take a guard if you go to the restroom since the light switch is outside the door. I was visiting the loo and found myself in the dark. lol

A great place to hang out and have conversations, read, and do internet work. I usually like my coffee shops a little darker, but the place is clean and people are super friendly so thats more important. Great location by Mass St too! So far the drinks and food have been good! *They dont charge for or limit their internet like some shops in town do! This makes me want to buy from them even more.* Added bonus: They have a beautiful piano that musicians can play... and I do love me some piano. :)

Locally owned and operated Christian bookstore in downtown Lawrence. We are always able to find new or unique books and music as well as devotionals and other gifts here. A surprisingly large selection of books for a local shopb we love to cone here to browse. A local tip would be to park in the city-owned free parking lot directly behind Signs of Life and go in through the back door rather than parking along Massachusetts Street.

Ive noticed the refreshing variety of people who come into Signs of Life. It is frequented by families, college students, artists, scholars... many different sorts of people due to its offering a gallery upstairs as well as great coffee, a wide selection of books and music, and study spaces in a calm environment. Love it!

Love coming here to work! Reliable in all ways: great coffee, diverse seating atmospheres, and Wifi! I have been to Signs for all purposes, reading alone to having a staff meeting up to 10 people! You can reserve a conference room for meetings in the back of the bookstore.

A combo coffee shop, bookstore, and art gallery, this Lawrence staple feels like home. The bookstore is primarily Christian books and classics, but still a very nice selection. Great coffee drinks. Solid rotating galleries upstairs. Just a lovely place.

My neighbor and a good coffee shop for studying or chatting with friends on the patio, venture into the bookshop next door or the art gallery upstairs. The coffee itself isnt anything to get excited about but the environment is good.

Its a bookstore, gift shop, coffee shop, art gallery and has touches of old history preserved, like their bank vault where they store their fresh coffee beans. Fun place to stop in while on Mass street.

Really good coffee and pastries. I dont know if they make there own pastries or if they get them from another spot. Nice and quiet place to work on your computer if you need it.

Great study area and atmosphere. Coffee is not as great as other places, but you can get a bottomless cup for $1 if you bring your own mug. Wonderful art gallery upstairs.
