Very large state park within an hour of Atlanta. Far away enough to see plenty of stars at night. Hiking and biking trails; The majority are under cover of canopy trees. On labor day weekend, the trails were not busy, even though campsites seemed full. I noticed all the rv and tent campsites do not have much shade cover during the majority of the day. We stayed in the west platform Campground, which is completely surrounded by trees. Close to the river, but you might not even hear the running waters. The entire park is situated about 6-8 above the rivers waterline. At this platform site, there is a 24/7 hum that emanates from a dam/power plant across the river. 8 Platform sites with picnic tables for each. Platforms have approximately 30 between each other. M/F Single occupancy Bathroom and showers are located at the parking lot, which is 100+ yds from the platforms. The campsite path is semi-paved to support a single ada-compliant platform site. In summer months, ticks and chiggers can be a real problem. Take and use a good insect repellant. Keep on the well-marked paths. There is plenty of area that is not served by trails, but be wary of ticks! Hiking and biking are the main attractions. Kayaking and canoeing is available, but the river runs swiftly here; easy to go downstream, but youll definitely work against current to get back to the ramp. Canoes and kayaks are available at the visitor center, but they do not transport them down to river (a mile+ away) nor provide shuttle service.

This modern state park with campsites covers nearly 3,000 acres, including hiking trails, primitive campsites and both back-in and pull-through RV sites. We stayed there in late January which is their off-season, so we had our choice of dozens of campsites with electric and water hook-ups. None have sewer or cable TV connections nor access to Wi-Fi, which is only at the Visitors Center. Our Verizon cellphone reception was spotty and over-the-air TV reception at our site was non-existent. A sanitary dump station is available for emptying waste tanks. Our interactions with the campground hosts and staff were all cordial. RV sites were clean, spacious, mostly level and far enough apart to provide some privacy. Each has a picnic table and fire ring. All of their facilities were modern and well-maintained. There is an attractive visitor center, a Chattahoochee Riverfront boat launch facility and a security gate that closes at 10:00 pm. There are both standard and handicap accessible restrooms and shower facilities that were spotlessly clean. Since this facility is nowhere near highways, railroad tracks or other sources of noise, and there werent many other campers, we found this campground to be exceptionally quiet. For campers who dont mind driving about a dozen miles off the beaten path to get to this park and who prefer having an "outdoor experience" over being connected with cellphones, Internet and TV, this is a cost-effective way to do it. We stayed here in a Class A Motorhome.

Well, I have to tell you--in this day of pre-packaged, pre-programmed, and canned offerings, Chattahoochee Bend State Park isnt one of them; it is attended by caring, knowledgeable and competent people. They seem to have their finger on the pulse of the park, and know what is happening in it; it is well-maintained and policed. This is a good place to go, to bring the family, and feel that you have done something good--and to relax. Chattahoochee Bend is a new State Park, and the staff seems dedicated to growing it, and enhancing its stature in the system. I spent a weekend at the Bend at a platform campsite (15 x 15), and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I brought my children, ages 11, 11, and 17--and they loved it, and want to come back. To bid me goodbye, a Bald Eagle swooped down this morning, chasing a flock of geese. Nice... I give this park 5 out of 5 smiles. :) :) :) :) :)

This is one of the States latest parks. It is still "in progress". We walked the trail to the lookout tower. Easy, flat trail running through a heavily wooded area. There is not much to do for little kids. I think the park is for nature enthusiast at this point. People who like very little modern amenities to come between themselves and nature. They have plan to manicure and expand "man made" areas in the future. If you have a list of State parks to visit and explore include this one for kayaking, staying in a yurt like cabin, bring your own entertainment. Absolutely no cell phone service either. Just nature.

I will preface this review by saying Im biased, because Ive been volunteering at the park since before it opened to the public. But there are nearly 14 miles of hiking trail, ranging from beautiful easy, flat riverside walking to aggressive up-and-down trails that will challenge the ultra-runners. Campgrounds are large and spacious, riverside views are great, and there are 3+ miles of mountain bike trail, with 20 more miles on the way. Being so far out in the country, the night sky views from the Flat Rock Trail are quite clear. The park naturalist is a hoot!

Overall a beautiful well kept park. We were a little disappointed as signs were not posted at the start of trail stating the trail was closed for construction 4 miles in. We did not get to see the bend. It is posyed on the website though. (We missed that.) The river trail does not stay along the river but will wind a mile away then turn back. That was a little disappointing as well. There were quite a lot of ticks this time of year. So be prepared when hiking the trails. Its a dog friendly park with plenty of parking and picnic areas.

The camp site needs more shade, fishing spots, and the running water at our site was brown!!! We stayed in campsite #2, and the water was very brown!! The site host said its just clay in the water but Im not drinking that!!! There is no where to fish except the boat ramp, however the river is shallow there and has a quick current. On a positive side the park is well manicured, the staff seem friendly, and the bathhouses are extremely CLEAN!!!!!

My family and I love hiking and camping here. They have car camping with showers and playgrounds as well as platform camping next to the river. Youre likely to see all sorts of wildlife including turkey, armadillos, deer, snakes, hawks, and owls to name a few. Be sure to pack plenty food and water as this park is quite rural. I would rate the trails as easy for just about anyone. You can hike from 1 mile to over 10, you choose.

I only say its okay, and give 3 stars because we didnt really spend a lot of time there to see what all the park offers. Im sure its better than okay, and once weve explored more, Ill edit my rating. NOTE that you can pay the parking fee in more than one lot. So, if you plan on parking in a lot that is deeper into the park, you dont have to hold up the line (if there is one) when there is no attendant on duty.

Nice, new park! Love the campground--we will be back to do the back country park! My only knack was the fact that they wouldnt rent a kayak to me due to the scattered thunderstorm chance that day. Had to go to a different competitor to rent my kayak. Wayyy off the beaten path so be prepared and have all of your gear and plenty of gas.
