I spent a longer time here than I thought I would. Staffed by friendy, outgoing people ready to try and answer any and every question, the displays are curated into small chunks of history and timeline, Mainly concentrating on local civil war, railroad, and RR Chase history, you are taken on a path that feeds it to you in bite sized chunks. The masterpiece being at the end of the tour. I grew up with Disney, Fess Parker, and adventure. And the General, it turns out, was REAL...and here it is...
Home of "The General", the great locomotive chase engine, this museum makes history fun. The kids were enthralled, and the adults had an equally good time. This museum has great information about steam engines and how they were made, with life sized dioramas. They have a well-produced and acted movie about the great locomotive chase, without making a political statement. All in all a great time, and one I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in the civil war or trains.
Great way to spend the afternoon, or a rainy day! Really clean, handicap accessible and affordable. Their military discount was more than most places too. Another thing I noticed was the sensory sensitive afternoons; they are the last Tuesday of each month from 2:00pm-5:00pm. I thought that was a really great idea and have seen a lot of the more progressive places doing the same!
See the General. The locomotive that started the great locomotive chase. Its beautiful and excellently maintained. The civil war collection here is wonderful. Also the train displays are great. This place is really nice, larger than it looks. Great for kids and adults. If you havent been here and you like history or trains, this is a must.

Excellent Mommy & Me program for preschoolers with enthusiastic teachers. We love Mr. Chris who is very engaging. The program is well planned and well executed and makes a family membership worth every penny. We also enjoy the museums annual Trains, Trains, Trains event, and my son enjoys seeing The General every time we visit.
Was really stunned to read the description for one of the confederate statues in the lobby. Among many things it mentioned that this man was a leader in the KKK. To immortalize a man with these values and place this statue in the museum is reprehensible. As a visitor to Kennesaw, it was very disturbing.
A great museum of both Civil War history and the railroads throughout the Georgia. A year membership is well worth it if you have kids since theyll love going here again and again. Great childrens area and interactive exhibits. Also a good place to have a kids birthday party
Seeing "The General" locomotive was great. Lovely Museum. Teared up at some of the war memorabilia. Didnt see the "Venus" statue donated by France. Forgot to ask about it before I left. Fun for children also apparently. Had a nice visit.
Huge museum, we spent 2 hours there. If you ever read the story of the Union soldiers stealing a train called The General, its here! Amazing history of the Civil War and post war industry. Great exhibits for kids.
Jai adoré franchement un vrais musée comme on en trouve en France cela vaut vraiment le coup dœil
Fantastic museum. Be sure to take enough time to read the display descriptions. Great insights on the economies of the North and the South, their divisions and the logistics of the subsequent war.

Nice little museum! Has lots about Kennesaw locomotive history and Civil War era history. Worth a visit for anyone that likes trains or civil war history! Its not free but prices arent bad.
Better than the Smithsonian in its displays of sothern life and train construction also there is a movie about "the great train chase" not to mention THE actual locomotive.....the General
Very interesting. I liked all the old weapons. My favorite was probably the signatures of Lincoln and Lee. Very cool. The people that work here are very friendly and welcoming.

Has a great play room for kids tired of the car on a road trip. Really nice staff, great facility. Lots of pride put into the clean displays.very nice experience.
If you like trains, this is the place for you.It is the home of the engine of The General, the Civil War train that was the subject of The Great Locomotive Chase.
Me encanto muy informativo y un lugar para que los niños jueguen
The Civil War locomotive was beautiful. The museum had nice landscaping and many more historic items including a bit of rolling stock and quite a few weapons.
My kids and I loved it. They have it set up so children can do a scavenger hunt and learn at the same time. There was even a place for the baby to play .
Very interesting displays. The planetarium is a very special feature. Anyone with an interest in the world around them will find this museum helpful.
Mommy and me program is great for 5 yr old and younger. Great indoor playroom and small playground outside. Great for train lover both young and old.
This is an excellent Civil War museum, and a great place to adults and kids that like trains. They have an awesome Mommy and Me program aswell.
We have only been here for the "Trains, Trains, Trains!" event for the past few years but its always well run with a lot of helpful volunteers.

The name is listed wrong on here. It is city of kennesaw. We love the museum! I have three little boys. Trains and boys just go together.
Learn something, bring a child or family. Fantastic museum, you can tell the Smithsonian had there hands all in this as its first class
This is nowhere near the City of Jonesboro, its in Kennesaw. It is beyond me why it is titled "City of Jonesboro: Southern Museum "
Much more here than what it looks like from the outside. Prices were great and the staff was amazing. We will be back.
We took our son for the model train expedition they had. It was a really cool experience. Would highly recommend.
The only thing anyone should be EMBARRASSED about is the lack of ability to spell and use proper grammar.
