Located in the "cube" adjacent to Rivergate Towers (the round building) is the location site. Its worth the stop, if you might be facing some inclement weather and want to occupy some spare time. I would categorize this museum as "filler time", in other words, it would not be what draws me to area but would supplement my experience. If you are looking for a large collection of photographs with plenty of variety , this is NOT the place. Entry fee is average to high. The interior floor space is well designed with plenty of natural light entering the structure. They have a permanent exhibit and also periodic rotating exhibits so definitely check their website to see if the current featured exhibit is something intriguing.

I wanted to like it! I appreciate the value our museums bring to the city. This museum is plagued by its extremely small venue and lack of descriptions on pieces and art movements. With less than 2 dozen pieces at any time you arent left with a good impression of an artists or art history and their impact on it. Instead it feels more like seeing blown up National Geographic pictures. I think the passion for art is there, and Tampa has the desire for a photographic art museum. Perhaps in a larger space with emphasis on photographic art history, education, and creativity the museum could really flourish.

I was so excited to visit the so called "Museum of Photographic Arts" because I was hoping to see and learn a little bit more about Photographic Arts! As a lover of photography I was very disappointed with my visit. The poor selection and display of the images was rather sad. The Photographs were basically hung in three short hallways which they had a nerve to call a "Museum of Photographic Arts" and charge an entry fee! Save yourselves time and money and take your family to a real museum! As for photographs, you can see better photos on Flickr.

This "museum" is an absolute joke, and Im not laughing. There were cubicles right in the center of the exhibit, a very small amount of photographs to be accounted for, and absolutely no theme at all. I learned nothing about the history of photography, and I can see now why they ask for a donation, rather than a set admission. To be completely honest, if they had asked for the donation at the end rather than the beginning, I wouldnt have given them a cent. Such an odd place.

Very poor selection for the money i have paid to go in here. The museum itself is just sad. Yes the things inside are very nice but there isnt much. Not worth the price. Staff was nice though but seriously who ever owns this museum needs to lower there prices by alot. If im going to pay away my pocket i expect to have a mind blowing experience with loads of exibits inside. Not worth the money but if your rich you probably wouldnt care.

This museum is very nice and intimate. The people at the front desk are very friendly and welcoming. The galleries are interesting in design and the work that they show is also interesting. Im not extremely knowledgeable about photography or photographers, so I like that they show artists with which Im not familiar. They open a door for me to want to explore and find out more about the artists and other artists like them.

This is hardly a museum of photographic arts, or museum of anything. It is a gallery featuring photos, of historical significance at best but not a museum. The featured exhibit I saw was unimpressive and uninformative. My experience was very disappointing and I do not recommend visiting this facility. I really expected a museum with exhibits which described the history of photography. There is nothing at all like that here.

The museum is a small but terrific venue for displaying photography as art. It apparently did not satisfy others but I would defy them to find ten photographs in an exhibit within 500 miles of Tampa to equal the brilliance of the photos of the great Iranian photographer Gohar Dashti that are currently on exhibit here. Tampa is blessed to have this opportunity. Congratulations on a fantastic exhibit.

Seems like a waste of time. Exhibits are small and there is little information about what you are seeing. It seems more like a small gallery than a museum. $20 for us to get in was steep for what we saw. It is a spectacular building but the facility and staff are significantly lacking. The Tampa Museum of Art right across the park was so much better. Very disappointed. Will not be back.

Cool photography museum. Free on last Friday of every month. Museum is supposed to be free but "donations" are demanded. Not really worth the $10 donation as it is very short but it is bigger than the Tampa museum of art by Curtis Hixon Park. They filmed the punisher and Edward scissor hands here!

Ive experienced FMoPA as a student (taking a photography seminar), and visitor, enjoying exhibits. Its a must-visit destination for Florida residence, and those visiting from out of town. A Tampa gem!

Their permanent selection is small but they have great exhibits that come into town. They also have some great community events for local photographers.

Always enjoy visiting the every changing collections and shows at FMOPA. We (everyone in Tampa) are VERY lucky to have this here in our town.
