Every time I go here, I enjoy it a little bit more. This time was for the Tour De Fat. The event was great, but its always the area an event is in that determines how great the event will be. This park is fairly large, with two plots of green grass, a giant fountain and a huge catch-basin for the water. Lets talk about this fountain/basin! The local kids flock here during the heat because 1) its hot and 2) parents love something that entertains their kids for a LONG time...zen moments! The catch basin is also pretty large and about a foot deep and people will wade through it (such as at Tour De Fat) as well as kids. It "smells" like chlorinated water, so Id be willing to be it was mildly treated before being pumped out, so dont be scared! Also, they keep the basin pretty clean during the warmer months. The boardwalk is probably the best one in DC...because its the only one that I know about. It has awesome lights at night on the bridge, and there are many more eateries and spots opening up along the water and in the other buildings, especially as more housing pops up around it. There are two green plots full of grass. One will even have free concerts every Friday during the warmer months! They sell beer too! Food trucks show up! #Party Now, the most important part. This is PRIVATE LAND!! This is now some park owned by DC or the Feds. That being said, they have AMAZING rules here. Outdoor alcohol! They sell it, even! Blue Jacket brewery, next door, will bring over beer on Fridays and sell it. You can then walk around the ENTIRE PARK area and enjoy some drinking without the oppressive DC or Federal laws breathing down your neck. Because were all adults here ;) minus the kids in the crowd.

Tucked in a corner of the revitalizing Southeast waterfront, this informal little park is the place to be on spring, summer and fall weekends. Dropping by you might find live bands playing, kids and parents frolicking over a picnic, or people out strolling. Last year it was still pretty barren, but there are lots of new restaurants and shops nearby (grab a meal from one and sprawl with a book in the grass for a weekend lunch). Its a wonderful spot, right near the mouth of the river. Its tranquil, if not always picturesque (the water can be muddy and still all too often, with litter and other debris floating by). Top secret, if you dont get too rowdy, you can bring a few cold ones to enjoy outside too, one of the few places in the city that allows public drinking (for events, theres usually a vendor selling two or three locals from set up kegs). And whats better than drinking outside? Not much really. Yards Park is a fantastic local oasis, and the perfect spot for your next hangout or get together.

The Yards Park has evolved over the years. When it first opened, it seemed to cater to the young professionals who felt safe enough in Navy Yard to move from Clarendon to DC. Now Yards Park is an integral part of the city! Heres why: 1) If you like water, its right on the Anacostia River complete with a small board walk and great views of the city. 2) There are plenty of dining options from Blue Jacket to TaKorean to Whaleys. Grab an ice cream at DCs best ice cream shop at Jubilee Ice Cream. 3) Yards Park hosts many community events from art galleries, live music, and free sunrise yoga classes. 4) The fountains are perfect for kids, which is why on any given weekend, this park is full of families. 5) The unique layout of the park and its Instagram worthy bridges keeps the eye engaged. If you havent been yet, head over to Yards Park during the summer on a Friday for live music and food trucks. Enjoy!

I cant really say enough about how amazing the transformation of this area of Washington DC is, and The Yards Park is a big part of that. It is a vibrant public space, beautiful engineering and places to play for children, including the wading pool, waterfall and spray fountains which are populated by many happy children in the summer months. There are concerts on the weekends and get-togethers in the winter, and the number of walkable restaurants in the area is astounding. There is even an inexpensive parking lot very close by. We love this place, Im sure you will too.

Our favorite park in DC. There are fountains, a giant (but shallow) pool, a waterfall, a lovely bridge with picnic tables underneath (nice shade), a public bathroom, lots of affordable restaurants nearby (Potbelly, TaKorean, Sweet Green, etc), an ice cream shop (Ice Cream Jubilee is our favorite!) a dog park, and a gorgeous boardwalk. Great for kids and even the whole family. The Friday night concerts are a nice treat as well with local food trucks and free music that everyone can enjoy.

mommy blogs made me take a trip out here for the kids to play on the neat water fountain/wading pool. There was also a farmers market the day we went. Paying for parking was lame. But the worse part was the weird smell coming off my kids when they came out of the water. Tons of kids and it felt as though there wasnt enough chlorine or the water was too stagnant. The farmers market was very tiny and sad looking. however the yards astheticly looks awesome. I enjoyed walking around.

My new favorite park in dc. This place is new and has great views of the river. You forget you are in the city when you are here. Its underdeveloped here so its a nice quiet place and great to come with kids or on a date. There are new restaurants opening up here and more people are moving into the area, its an exciting time to be in navy yard. In the summers kids play in the fountain area and there is a yummy ice cream place next to the park. You can bike here or metro easily.

Yards park is gorgeous. I have to admit I am very jealous of this little area -- its just a shame its so far from me in SE DC. The park hosts weekly jam sessions for free -- with artists ranging from dave mathew band covers to live jazz. The park is well maintained and has multiple restaurants and micro breweries located very close to it. I would recommend going on a Friday night (specifically during the summer) to catch some live music.

Beautiful in the summer time. Many activities. Children can play in the little water pond they built, water only goes up to a childs belly. Kayaking is a great experience, relaxing, also jazz concerts and yoga on certain days. Many food trucks and a parking lot you have to pay for. Lots of space to walk and view the river, see people on their boats having a great time, buy liquor and hang on the grass or in the wooden lawn chairs provided.

The wading pool here is a fun place to take toddlers. We took our 3yr old there on a weekend with her cousins and she had a great time, and there are a number of restaurants in walking distance for lunch. It was really hard to find parking the day we went, but I think that was not normal because there was some kind of event happening in the park. I think most normal days it is very easy to find parking very close by.
