Ive been to just about every movie theater in the greater DC area and this one is my favorite (AMC Courthouse theater in Virginia is amazing too with the big seats). The old theater style of this place is top notch and really fun sitting in the upper balcony. If that isnt the best part then I would have to say the size of the screen. This thing is big. And Ive been to real IMAX theaters and not those fake ones in Georgetown or Tysons. This place has a massive screen that is great for any big movie. Only draw back to this theater is that they only play one movie but it is usually the #1 film out at the time. They also dont have a ton of showtimes which can be an issue to some. Ive never eaten there but I normally dont at a movie. The seats are just your standard type and the lower level has the old style of rows but its not an issue seeing over the person in front of you since the screen is massive. The seats in the balcony have stadium style. Prices here are great for a matinee ($8 or $9 I think) and the evening shows are about the same price as anywhere in the city. Definitely worth stopping by to catch the latest film.

Came here for the midnight premiere of the final Harry Potter movie. Everything was very organized and chill -- no waiting in line outside, no overbearing employees. The curved screen is an interesting touch, though probably better if youre sitting in the middle (we sat on the right side on the ground level). For the first minute or so the 3D calibration was out of whack, but they fixed it quickly and there werent any problems the rest of the movie. (The curved screen had made me apprehensive about whether the 3D would work right.) The seats seem great, for someone of average height. Theres a great neck rest. For someone of my height (~62"), the neck rest became an annoying lump in the top of my back unless I slouched uncomfortably (which i ended up doing). I didnt feel like I was blocking anyones view, though, which is often a problem for me, so that was good. Come if only for the novelty of the huge curved screen. Otherwise its just a slightly-above-average theater, for better or for worse.

The Uptown is my all-time favorite theater, & I eagerly await the days when they switch to a new movie. With just one mega screen, seeing a movie here is a treat - & Ill go see just about anything they show here, no matter my interest level, because the experience is just that good. Im a big fan of the balcony seating, & I love seeing midnight premieres here. Seeing a movie at the Uptown is a quick trip back to simpler times, when movie theaters werent multiplexes & the film was the focus. Want to make a night of it? Grab dinner beforehand at Indique or Pho Le or Spices or anywhere, really. Arrive a little too early? Grab a drink at Uptown Taphouse or the Cleveland Park Bar & Grille or Nanny OBriens. Arrive basically on time but dont want to pay for expensive movie food? Theres a CVS across the street & a Walgreens down the road to grab snacks, too!

Last night, I went to see a movie at this theater I had heard such good things about. While sitting on the balcony level waiting for my movie to start, I noticed a mouse running in front of me and proceeded to head up the stairs. Throughout the whole movie other patrons as well noticed about 5 mice running back and forth and under seats. Even after telling an employee nothing was done and they "do not give refunds". It ruined my movie experience and was simply disgusting.

The place is beautiful and clean. The service was great; however, I am giving it 2 stars on one simple, but major inconvenience, the seats. The seats are so very uncomfortable! I understand that this theatre may be trying to preserve the old "movie theater" feel but the seats or stiff and rigid! They do not tilt or bend at all! I have never been in a movie theater with seats this uncomfortable! I hope they do reservations, otherwise, this was my last visit.

I first came to Uptown to see the Batman movie (with Heath Ledger as the Joker). The huge screen makes you feel like you can dive right into the action and so it was with this movie. I literally was jumping and cringing in my seat at all the special effects. In one suspenseful moment I got spooked and had the popcorn fly out of my lap--which was comic relief for my companion and those sitting around me. Anyway great space for action thriller movies.

I love this theater. As an every day consumer, Ive had the chance to attend some blockbuster premieres here, and it was an amazing experience. But as an event planner, I also had a chance to throw a huge event. I wish their AV guy had brought more cables, but we threw the best corporate event in our companys history, and the on-site team was helpful and friendly through the whole thing.

The best traditional cinema experience around. 3D, IMAX? Who needs them. The giant old-timey screen is the largest around -- it cannot be beat. Youd have to kneel 12" in front of your 50" flat pannel at home to get an experience 1/10th as good. On the down side, get there early because the large theater holds a lot of people.

A enormous big screen, great sound system and stadium seats make this theater a great place to come to. What makes me deduct 2 stars are unfriendly service. the ticket booth attendee texting and not selling tickets. The popcorn was not fresh ? A shame the theaters is really a great place to see a movie at a great location.

Its the Uptown, thats the only reason I didnt give it a 2, or even a 1. Nostalgia goes a long way. The seats are uncomfortable and entirely to close together. The concession stand on the first floor is small and frequently causes a backup in the lobby. Theres one on the second floor but they never seem to open in.

Ole timey feel here-- youll have two levels of seating and just one mammoth room. The atmosphere is great, like you stepped into a Wille Morris novel. Great crowd atmosphere, everyone feels like they are experiencing something. Sound quality is outdated, however, so dont go see the summer blockbusters here.

I love that this theater has a huge screen and balcony seating. The extra legroom and more spacious seating make this theater stand out above the rest. Though you might have to sacrifice film variety with only one screen, its totally worth the trek to Cleveland Park for a classic movie experience.

This movie theater rocks. My first movie here was Star Wars when I was a child. I have since brought my own family here to watch many a movie and have traveled to do so. I wish there were more theaters like this around the country but I highly recommend it. The ambiance cannot be beat.

This historic single screen theater offers an excellent viewing experience from the floor and the balcony. Now part of the AMC theater family, Uptown has perks including Student night on Thursdays, and is typically showing the hot new films, although sometimes for weeks on end.

The best experience possible when seeing a movie. This theater is known for its amazing, large, single screen. But they also have great staff and concessions. I try and see as many movies as possible here, despite being a bit of a ways away from home - its worth the trip.
