Victorian Senior citizens run this Victorian castle and they believe they are from that Era. Its not a joke they really believe that, the curator being almost 80 years old is out of touch and delusional. They make claims to talk to ghosts on a regular basis and which only proves the level of delusion thats within. No spirits just a bunch of retired seniors Not willing to listen to changes made by Staff or Tourists. For historians youd think they would know slaves were ripped apart by dogs, and yet they allow a dog to sit in front of their business, and they have off color signs about your kids being sold into slavery, they cant even hear that they appear racist even if they may not be because they are stuck in 1895. Young people and children shouldnt take the tours nor work there because they are unwanted, there is not one interactive or touchable exhibit for kids. They discourage every employee. Their Victorian Garden is overgrown, underbrush can be seen, and it just looks unloved, unkept, and neglected which reflects Gardener who tends it. The tea room has been losing money since the 80s with high turn over for chefs. The Chef for the last 9 months completely turned it around, making sure the products were fresh everyday, standard of cleanliness met, and he inspired those around him to care about the food service being provided. All they could see was too many tourists dirtying the carpets and they refuse to hire a maid service because the maids steal money out of the donation bins which is why there are so many reviews of a dark and oppressive Castle. The history of the Castle is dark too, with a pervert priest and nuns who used the castle as their own personal retirement home, which is what the current Curator does now, hires her retired senior citizen friends who intend and hope to not be busy. If youre not from Manitou, not over the age of 50, and youre not willing to play political games with senior citizens then youd should Not work here or visit.

Miramont Castle looks awesome from the outside. Upon walking past it, I was amazed and the castle appeared to be breath-taking. Unfortunately as soon as I walked through the front door I was heavily disappointed. Prices were jacked up higher than what they needed to be, and you were solicited into buying the book at the front desk. After a short, pointless briefing, you were set free to explore the castle level by level. The first floor entailed Manitou Springs fire fighter museum which was very interesting to view the progressions over time, but had no business being in the castle. This seemed to be the common theme throughout the self-guided tour. Each room, the ones that people were permitted to walk in at least, seemed to have random stuff thrown in. The items in the rooms didnt make much sense for being in a castle of that time frame and it felt like I was in a history class because of posters on the wall rather than actually viewing a piece of history. The castle restoration looked great, but the interior decorators are clearly from this era and missed the mark big time. I would not waste your time or money on the castle.

I visited this place a few years back with my ex-husband. I am of hispanic decent and I was with my ex-husband and a few of his friends, all caucasian. As everyone exited the castle (our friends) me and my husband were the last two. We were asking about the museums schedule and when could we visit next time. She did not look at me for anything but made plenty of eye contact to my ex even when I was also asking qts too, clearly ignoring me. So anyways, as our friends were leaving, she told them something in the lines of "Have a nice day" which is not bad, but again they, including my husband were the only ones that were acknowledged and I was treated like I was invisible giving me the understanding that to her, I was never welcomed. She was snobbish and rude and like another commenter said, not worth $9 for the place is not that impressing and members of the staff obviously have "superiority complex"

The tea was a huge disappointment...meager offerings and not worth the value of $35/person. The tea pot was pretty but the dishes were Corelle. Not even a pretty tea cup. The sandwich and dessert courses were the most disappointing...the scone was not pretty to look at but was delicious. I would say the fruit cup was the tastiest. Our server was very good but was apparently a smoker, as the smell arrived before he did. I also would have thought that the fee of the museum would be included in the exorbitant tea cost but it was discounted a dollar. BTW, the lady at the desk was very nice, despite what other reviewers have said. The museum seems to actually be several little museums with no other place to live. Great looking from the outside; the inside actually seemed a lot smaller and not so GRAND.

This was such a cool find! Walking around Manitou Springs led us to this castle. I appreciate the work that has gone into recreating the castle as it once was. You can tell they cant do much about some of the larger upgrades and modernizations but its not too distracting. Its a fun and low priced place to wander around for an hour or two (if you like museum type stuff). We enjoyed the information about how the different rooms were used and the differences in architecture. Maybe not the most exciting place for kids but I think I would have been amazed by it as a young one.

Beautiful and full of history. If you need a handicap entrance for the tour, you may want to call ahead. Someone had to run and find a key for the handicap entrance. (Its kept locked when not in use.) TheyI included a photo of the ramp. Its rather narrow, but accommodated our wider manual wheelchair. Also, you will need to be able to stand some to tour the third floor, and wont probably be able to get to the gift shop. A beautiful piece of history. Lots of information along the self-guided tour. Tea is available with a reservation. We didnt do that. Maybe next time.

After spending the morning driving to Pikes Peak, we decided to tour Miramont. To call this place a Castle is taking liberty with words. Im not sure you could call this place a mansion either. It is a large house, in need of repairs. Looking back through my pictures, I didnt even take one shot, the wife took one of the tin ceiling. So you can see we just werent impressed at all. I guess if you have never seen any castles at all this might be something you like.

I thought I was just going to a Victorian Castle. The building is stunning as a fan of archetecture, it is amazing how many styles were incorporated into building this home. I bought the book Memoirs of Miramont Castle at the giftshop. Living near Santa Fe I was stunned to find out Father FranColon had such a connection to Santa Fe, Archbishop Lamy, Santa Cruz NM,, and statues from San Luis, Colorado. Scandel and intrigue are part of the story. Loved this place!

As a history major I thoroughly enjoyed the self-guided tour. 4 different floors of historical artifacts. It was a remarkable experience. My favorite part of the experience was seeing the books that John C. Young had donated. Hundreds of books he had donated including The Encyclopedia of Law and The Book of History.
