Museums have always fascinated me and during a visit to Sacramento we just happened to see this one while driving through. What caught our attention was a huge banner of a "Buddha" in front of the building. On the day of our visit, there was construction taking place and was told that the museum is expanding to accommodate more pieces to its vast collections. What makes this museum so unique it that its not located in the heart of the city like most other museums we have visited in the past. This museum sits near the Sacramento River and originally started off as a home "mansion." You dont get the sense of how huge this place is until you step foot inside, then your overwhelmed at its immense size. To see the museums vast collection of paintings and artifacts was fascinating to say the least. We enjoyed the Crockers personal art collections and belongings. On our tour upstairs, we saw numerous paintings depicting many scenes of California during its early days, paintings of prominent people, the gold rush, and the "Buddha" artifacts.

Really like the cafe and seating area. Good food that is not run of the mill, generic. Nice employees at this museum. Love the openness and light and architecture of the modern addition. Love the woodwork in the original mansion. Nice to see some native American art and art from other countries. The museum has a great deal of pottery and China. My favorite part of the museum is the art that features American people and places. Love the paintings of Yosemite and the western United States. The museum is huge. Visit the parts that interest you the most first. I didnt, and ran out of time and energy. Definitely want to come back to concentrate on the paintings in the mansion. Highly recommended everyone to visit the Crocker Art Museum. Because it is so large, beautiful and has a great cafe (and coffee) it really and truly is a destination. Excellent gift store, also.

Ive been going to the Crocker for decades, and it can truly be considered a world-class museum. Art exhibitions include Warhol and Ai Wei Wei, and often have themed events to enhance the exhibitions. Monthly ArtMix celebrations offer after-hours themed festivities, from comic book and sci-fi themed Crocker-Con to Acrobatics, dance, kinetic sculpture, and many, many more. The Crocker also offers classes and events for all ages, a reasonably priced membership plan, on-site theaters and exhibit halls, as well as a library for research, along with an art restoration lab for the academic. Fun and passionate docents make each trip (even repeat tours) a fresh experience with new and interesting trivia not found on the descriptions. If you are an art fan, you need to come here when you visit Sacramento.

My husband and I visited this place for the first time ever over this past weekend. The antique architecture and furnishings were jaw-droppingly gorgeous, and probably my most favorite part of all. Lots of beautiful and intriguing art of all mediums from the bottom floor all the way to the top, and throughout every single wing and corridor we wandered into. We probably spent a good hour here, but Id say youd need at least an hour and a half to two hours to really see everything. It was pretty busy but didnt feel crowded, and parking wasnt too hectic. Great place to explore for romantic dates and spontaneous day trips.

The Crocker competes well with larger museums, caters to a wide audience and stays abreast with the cutting edge. It had several very exciting and accessible rotating shows—High Fructose and Plink—as well as one that was more academic—the paintings of Raimonds Staprans. Their permanent collection remains a pleasure to revisit, always another painting I couldnt believe Id never noticed. It highlights local artists and works from California, especially from the Bay Area Figurative school. Altogether it makes for a great afternoon of enjoyment or study. Ive visited often over seven years and Ive never been bored!

One of the treasures of Sacramento. The Crocker is an amazing public resource that hosts an impressive array of international artifacts, rotating exhibits and a large permanent collection of California artwork as well as modern pieces and native North American pottery. They host monthly Art mixes and community events that make this museum a great place to spend time and meet friends. If you havent come here before, you will be blown away. If you havent come back in a while, there is always something new to discover. Atmosphere 5/5 Staff 5/5 Collection 5/5

Strong collection of classical Dutch painting. The Crocker is really known for its crockery, which there is A LOT of, though to my eye its mostly pretty typical stuff -- but occasionally theyll get something very interesting as a special exhibit (both in pottery and other media). Their extensive collection of modern art has interesting choices that seem to focus on the disturbing instead of the aesthetically-pleasing; thats one way to approach the form, though I might have aimed for balance, instead. Overall, a good museum for a city the size of Sacramento.

This museum really provides a lot of bang for the buck. The collections will really keep you occupied for a several hours. For a relatively small complex it manages to squeeze in the art. An amazing part of my visit was while I was viewing photographs from a central american artist someone walked in and out of the room with a child and a friend loudly talking about how he could throw up and call it art like these guys have done. What the heck was he doing there? Are judges sentencing idiots to a day in a museum these days?

One of the best Art museums here in Sacramento. The first time I visited this museum as part of a paper for my class. They change art often. Parking: street parking which is metered. Dont forget to add money to increase time otherwise youll get a surprise waiting on your windshield. Floors : is 3 floors and they have a cafeteria. So take your time exploring Free days : if you have BOA card on certain days. If not, pay $10. Overall the place is clean.

This museum has something for everyone. I went right at opening and during the week and it was completely empty. Personally, my favorite part was walking through the old Crocker house. I wont claim I fully appreciated some of the more modern art, but the juxtaposing modern and classical architecture was impressive. They also have a nice child area with hands on crafts and a large touch screen to paint digital art. Not the MOMA but well worth the price.

We visited Crocker art Museum to see the Hi-Fructose art exhibition (which was incredible, as expected). The rest of the museum was equally awesome. Well designed and laid out, the Crockers friendly staff and knowledgeable docents made our experience wonderful. Tremendous variety of exhibits, with something for everyone. Also very kid-friendly which was good for our family. Highly recommended.

They have a large collection of paintings along with some pottery and ceramics as well. As is the case with several museums they have rotating exhibitions. This museum is also part of NARM. Since I am a member of the fine arts museums of San Francisco, my wife and I get free admission here. There is ample paid parking outside. After visiting the museum visitors can stroll by the waterfront.
