Ive golfed at Los Verdes essentially since Ive been able to hold a club. Yesterday was the first negative experience Ive had. The course was in good shape, the weather was excellent, and we had a very nice chat with the greens keeper on hole number 3. The problem came with several ridiculous confrontations with the marshall. Starting with hole 8, the marshall came to our fivesome and said we were falling behind. The group ahead of us was a threesome. To expect us to be able to keep up with a threesome is not realistic. Add to the fact as we were leaving the green on number 8, the group behind us, another fivesome, hadn’t even teed off. So we weren’t holding up play either. The next confrontation with the marshall came on the tee box at number 13. Again, the group behind us wasn’t even on the tee box at number 12, so were not holding up play. The marshall gets out of his cart, walks up to the tee, and stands about five feet from one of our group, as he’s trying to tee off. At best that’s terrible golf ettiquete, at worst its rude. At this point every person in our group is upset. I engaged the marshall and asked him if he expected us to keep up with a threesome. His answer, “I’m just telling you what I see. You’re behind.” We then asked why he was harassing us when we weren’t holding up play. He didn’t have an answer and skulked off in his cart. I realize Los Verdes gets backed up easily. But, our group was not holding up play at ANY point during the day. The scores in our group were 77, 80, 80, 87, 93. Everybody could play, and there was no duffing around the course. If you are going to send a marshall out to harass your customers, he should know something about golf, pace of play etc. If you send out a threesome in front of a fivesome, there is going to be a gap between groups.

Probably wasting my time reviewing this course for a couple of reasons: 1. The view is hard to beat.. especially from the 15th green. 2. Its public, and I think the most popular course in the country. Anyhow.. Just finished a round with my brothers-in-law... Fun, except a couple things worth noting; Course has some of the worst rough I can imagine. Too much hard packed dirt to try to hit off if you miss the fairway. Id rather hit off crab grass and get a better result. Cute, Asian chick working the bar needs to learn some customer service skills. Absolutely no personality, in fact... borderline rude. Does not acknowledge customer with a " Can I help you"? or a "Thank you" for a tip. Puts your order on the counter and walks off without saying anything, so you are not sure if your order is ready to pick up or what?... Totally unacceptable. Find someone new!!! My group took advantage of the "$12 deal" which included a hot dog, chips, and bottled water and additional items from several options where the customer picks 2 choices. When we went to the bar to order the hot dogs, we turned in our receipts and received our hot dogs. I didnt realize until I got home that we were all supposed to have a bottle of water and a bag of chips included with that purchase. I dont understand why the person behind the bar couldnt inform us of this at the time we ordered. I like the course. But the service leaves A LOT to be desired. This place needs some serious help with their lever of customer service.

Ive been a member here for 6 years and this is my last. Im only giving it 2 stars. First, let me give you what I like about the course. It has some of the most scenic views for a golf course. My favorite is number 15. Nice layout. Greens can be tricky. And it is a public course which means you dont have to pay an arm and a leg to play here. That being said. Here are the cons. Slow play. Slow play. Slow play. If youve got more than 6 hours to burn, then hey this course is for you. I came out once with my dad (been a member since 1970) on Sunday. We only got 9 holes in. We teed off at 1:30pm and we left after 9 holes because it was 7pm. Members dont get any benefits as to starting times. Since this is a public course, this again is the cause to the long play times. Its all about money. They get out groups every 6 to 7 minutes, which causes a jam starting at number 3 and never gets any better. Waiting 10 to 15 minutes per hole to tee off and then 10 to 15 to hit your next shot is no fun. Golf diners used to be a bargain for getting food and snacks. Not anymore. Well enough of my ranting... If you do decide to play here. Try to get out early, it may not be so bad. Have fun...

Los Verdes is a beautiful and challenging golf course, which is why my friends and I tolerate the manner in which the course is mismanaged. But yesterday was too much. I booked a 1:37 tee-time. We actually began play at 2:30. I was playing with two older ladies who hit rather poor tee shots off the makeshift tee box on the first hole, and before my friend and I hit our tee shots already the cashier announced "Please remember it is your responsibility to keep up with the group in front of you and to play ready golf." This - before Ive hit my first shot after waiting an hour to play. Nothing better than a rude and pointless "While were young" to get a round started. What makes matters worse is that it is not individual groups or golfers that make for slow play at Los Verdes, but the fact that the management packs too many groups on the course - fivesomes at eight-minute intervals. So, not only did we tee off an hour late, we were able to finish only 16 holes before darkness fell because we had to wait at every hole. The course is one of my favorite in LA or OC, but my friends and I agreed that after yesterday it will be a long time before we play Los Verdes again.

READ THE REVIEWs - they are mostly spot on. You want great ocean views, got it, you want great price, got it. You want to play in under 5.5 hours DONT GOT IT. Greens are OK (good for county course, $40/green fee with cart). Greens were a little bumpy and overgrown but there was grass on the greens. Fairways and rough are marginal, some serious slope on several holes, poor maintenance makes it impossible to keep on the fairway on a few holes. But the real deal is the 5 somes, its obviously a standard here. Read the reviews! Most everyone says it. WIth all the focus on "ready golf", "play it forward", "4 hour rounds", this place decides that they will go against the flow and make it slow, SLOW and painful. I read the reviews and assumed it was weekend warriors commenting - NOPE, we played on a Tuesday early afternoon, from the first tee shot until we walked off the green at 18 it was 5 hours and 41 minutes. It went faster on the back as I am sure many people quit after the first 9 holes took just over 3 hours. Be prepared. If you just want the view, go to the beach, you want to wait 10 minutes on each tee box, go here. You have been warned.
