OK playground for kids...but you need to watch them & others to prevent a fall off the cliffs! Nice for a walk. During the summer they sometimes have arts & crafts festivals. Parking is usually not a problem. Does have restrooms. A good break from driving on the 101. As far as the photos here, some are for other nearby locations or totally off. Many are taken from the nearby "Inn on the Cove", or the "Hidden Cove" that I added (which is beach accessible only by either a fairly risky path from the Inn, or by boat). Part of it also lies under Dinosaur Caves Park, but it is not accessible via DCP. Other pics are from the nearby Margo Dodd Park & the Conservancy area. All are beautiful. Regardless of all these nearby areas, there are no easy access to "Caves"...except by Kayak or by a hazardous path thru partially filled natural tunnels at low tide. The "Cave" collapsed & the artificial Dinosaur was destroyed long ago. What remains is mostly a flat plateau that runs from Shell Beach Rd. to Cliffs with a step drop off. There is no beach access here, but there is past Margo Dodd Park....where there is a stair case. Here at low tide you can carefully explore the hazardous rocky shore. The rocks are unstable, which when combined with the incoming tide, rogue waves, & slippery moss, do make a hazardous milieu. As far as the history of DCP, there is a sign posted that describes the strange history of this Parks name & creation. Greed, accidents, erosion, & community input all played a part in its history & likely still does. Anyway, there NEVER was any dinosaur fossils found here (it was a actual named after a fake headless partially completed dinosaur "statue" that burned down long ago) and there are NO safely accessible "caves", except by Kayak... and those would be shallow, at best. Regardless of the above, the views & playground are worth a stop. I am giving it only four stars, because the name is misleading to most people, who may stop to either see Caves or Fossils. Ironically, the only things that are related to Dinosaurs are small models of them & (enormous, not to scale) eggs in the kids playground. At least these ones have the heads on & the kids can play on them. The city does try to maintain a fair amount of native plants on the grounds & it is pleasant to walk the paths to various outlook areas, many with benches. Again, you & your kids need to be extremely careful not too stray too near the cliffs edge, as the fall would mostly lightly result in a fatality. Be cautious & watch your kids! BTW- No photo is worth your life!

Dinosaur caves Park in Pismo Beach is definitely one of the most visible parks as one drives up or down the 101 highway. Easy enough to overlook because of the sweeping ocean view dinosaur parks is very worthy of a stop, especially if you have little ones. The dinosaur eggs for the tiny ones to crawl in are beautiful touch. The swings for those to just go back and forth and let the world roll on by. The large concrete seals and the killer whale are just the right size for the little ones to crawl on and play make believe. Meanwhile the adults can have one eye on the children and one eye on the lovely panoramic view. Many picnic tables make it easy for one to have that beautiful picnic by the beach. The walkways give an easy place to stroll while watching the waves crash. The expansive lawns give a wonderful place for the dogs to run around and sniff sniff sniff . What more could one ask for a park. Is plenty of parking in the park and along the north side. Its just an incredible lovely place to be, to sit and read, to take a walk, to walk the dog, to bring the children, to have a picnic, and to have the 37 other things I didnt mention. It just feels good Dinosaur Caves Park

Dinosaur Caves Park is a family-friendly park in the Shell Beach area of Pismo Beach, CA. The park has open grass areas, picnic tables, walking paths, ocean overlooks, In the 1940’s a large concrete dinosaur was constructed at this location. Visitors could enter the dinosaur and descend a tunnel in the tail that lead into an underground sea cavern. The cavern has since collapsed and all evidence of the dinosaur have been removed. This is very popular with cave explores, kayakers, walkers, photographers, dog lovers, joggers and fishing enthusiasts. Theres a ocean-themed playground here for the little kids, right on the bluff, with ocean views. Theres clean bathrooms and lots of parking here. This is a must do when in the Pismo Beach area. Bring a lunch and drinks with you.

Great for looking at scenery and enjoying views. Not much of a kids play ground other than jumping on some pinnipeds (look it up). Parking is fine, bathroom is a typical park bathroom so hold/plan ahead if possible, people bring there dogs here so there is not much open field if you want to toss a ball around. Seating is spaced throughout, but available. Overall, if you havent been here it is worth the visit. Just keep in mind there are other options, like the beach... but if you need a kids park, Avila has a good beach park with playground, close to shopping and restaurants.

Weve visited Pismo Beach twice with little ones, and Dinosaur Caves Park has always been a favorite. Theres not actually dinosaur caves, but there is a sauropod to climb on, dinosaur eggs to climb in, and a few dolphins and seals. Theres also a lizard-like animal (I hesitate to call it a dinosaur) by the sign, if your kids are looking for something vaguely resembling a T. Rex. The park has always been clean, and there are bathrooms. Its right above the bluffs, so you can take a little walk down to overlook the water--just keep an eye on your kids!

There is a really nice and clean little dog park area here. There are poop bags available and designated poop trashcans. Restrooms for humans are clean. This park is very well maintained and usually not too too crowded. Usually stop here with my dogs when were on a road trip to Pismo. Be aware though that this is not a fenced in dog park. Its a completely open air/open area dog park. Lovely place other than that. Also..amazing views for picture taking.

Beautiful place to sit and look out over the waters and think. I have gone many many years to just sit watch the waters and feel the breeze. Very safe never have had any issues with people or animals. Would bring my son as he was growing up. We would do photos and sit on the benches and talk. There is a play area also. Very clean and they also have concerts and small fair type things along with farmers market at different times. Love it there!

This is the best park in the area. Well taken care of. No scoundrels. Good amount of pups but mostly on leash. Lots of exceeding going on. Weather is good. BIG Playground for your little biscuits. Lots lots and lots of grass space. Many birds. Kayaking is close. Surfing is close. High cliffs which display beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Easy access to the freeway. JRB
