I recently returned to this theater to see the new X-Men movie. We arrived to early so that we could order our meal before the movie started. We were told that the theater was not ready yet, so we had to wait few minutes while they finished "cleaning" it. When we got to our seats, they were a mess. They were still littered with popcorn, the cup holders were wet, the seats and arm rests had greasy hand prints everywhere. I had to flag down a manager to get someone to wipe down the seats. He apologized and had a server get a wet towel to wipe down our seats... so now the seats were not greasy, they were wet. I had to use the cloth napkin on my tray table to dry off the seats & arm rests myself. NOT A GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION FOR A "LUXURY" MOVIE THEATER. When the waitress finally came to take our order, she warned us that many of the theaters were sold out, and meal service was taking 30-40 minutes. (So much for arriving early). At least this theater has made some improvements since the last time I was here. First, they have a new mobile POS system that allows the server to swipe your Stubs card & credit card when they take your order. That way, they can drop off a paid-check at the end of the movie and you dont have to deal with finding your credit card & paying your bill in a dark theater at the climax of the movie. Second, theyve made changes to their menu (finally!!) and offer some healthier options. For example, I had the chicken & Quinoa bowl which was a good sized portion, and tasted very good.

I saw Django Unchained at a matinee showing roughly around January 20th. The cinema was mostly full, and there is low level lighting that made it easy enough to find our assigned seating. We were sitting dead center, and there were other moviegoers in our aisle, but even with low level chatter and the occasional passerby, it was a pleasant experience and we never felt like we were being bothered - the upscale nature of the food and ticket prices ultimately benefits the atmosphere, regardless of the quality. Our food arrived quickly, hot, and our sodas were refilled multiple times - I was pleasantly surprised by how quick and quiet our servers were. Yes, they interrupt the film, but what do you expect? Youre eating your dinner in a dark movie theater. In the future Id like to see a better billing system, e.g. you swipe your card on the way in and the tab is brought to you right at the end, but this is really as good as it gets for dine-in movie goers; giant, plush reclinable leather chairs, fast and efficient service (I think the employees are slowly becoming more adept) - I recommend seeing a long movie like Django because you really appreciate the experience so much more. Bringing my Dad here for Fathers Day, I hope theyre still showing Star Trek 2 on June 16!

My wife and I used to frequent this theatre almost every Saturday night, since they opened in November 2012. But since the Cinemark in Playa Vista opened in March of 2105, they seem unable to compete. They don’t play big budget/blockbuster films anymore and their menu has shrunk down to just a foldable pamphlet. We like the comfort of the reclining leather seats, lots of space, being able to order food and drinks from your seat, and the no kids policy. (After all, they do serve alcohol there.) But, since they trimmed their movie lineup and their menu, (most of it, junk food,) we have gone there maybe once or twice since they changed their format. Weve also noticed that people turn on their phones during the movie, which is very distracting and annoying, and no one is there to get them to turn them off. Our Stubs card and gift certificates just sit around collecting dust. I don’t know how they expect to remain in business if they don’t become more competitive. They got off to a great start back in 2012, but it’s not where you start that counts, it’s where you finish. They have rapidly declined and that’s a shame. Just when those of us who live in Marina del Rey thought we had a conveniently located, nice cinema to go to, it has just as quickly dissolved.

I love Dine-In movie going, and as this is our only option in LA, Ive sort of become a regular here. Despite my review, I will go here until we get the Alamo Drafthouse. The positives are that the seats are amazing, and the food is good. Its the kind of food youd get at a Fridays or a Chilis, and they serve booze. The negatives are limited seating with only 6 screens. The two biggest negatives are the servers are the worst. I have been a lot, and there is not a single time Ive left thinking well of the service. Too slow, forgetful, I ask them every time to bring the popcorn out right away and sometimes the movie will be halfway over when it comes. The actual food comes before it literally most of the time. Its crazy. Lastly, they need a new media buyer because they pick the worst movies to show there. Some of the movies Ive seen there, I really only saw because they were the best of the worst. Im an avid movie-goer in LA, and they are simply the worst in town when it comes to quality selection. They may have one or two on a weekend that dont stink, but the last showing will be at 6:30. They are the only dine-in though, so they get three stars. They need to get ready for Alamo Drafthouse because thats going to hurt if they dont step it up.

I have been going to this theater since 1995 specifically for the good parking and ease of access. Was interested to see the new improvements... and sadly was disappointed at the poor design. 1) the kiosk machine GUI was poor 2) it took 20 minutes to get a diet coke and cold (hot) green tea 3) the popcorn was below average and now it is just plain cold and bad 4) the little cup of fake butter was gross 5) all the servers walking around all movie along was annoying 6) the server drops off a bill and then I wait with my credit out for along time for them to come and get it. While the staff was nice and I appreciate that they are trying their best some high level managers need to get grip on their workflow and deploy their nice staff in a much more efficient manner. Also have some real buttered hot popcorn for starters. I am not sure if I liked This is 40 thanks to all of the above.

Way WWWWWAAAAAYYYYY overpriced. The seats are pretty awesome. They are wide, comfortable and recline. They used to have discount prices before noon. I usually go on Fridays before noon, but they change $14 for matinees!!!! Like $19 for a regular show!!!! If you like appetizer size meals for $20 and $10 glasses of house Chardonnay, then this is your place. Ill go to the Cinemark (formerly Rave) for $7 pre noon shows, have some sushi and a beer or wine and save $25 to $30. The service is pretty slow and the one time I tried to buy something it was kind of cold. I cant say for sure whether this is common or not. Sorry, but the seats arent THAT great. Cinemark has comfy seats too....not as good, but plenty comfortable. Maybe the new AMC in the marina (scheduled to open in the fall of 2013) will have reasonably priced matinees. If not, the Cinemark will continue to get my business.
