First time at the Arclight Sherman Oaks......and my last. They advertised a 12:35am showing....So I called and asked if we showed up ten minutes late would they sell us tickets, they said yes. When we got there the real answer was NO with a point to the door and a hearty laugh at our expense. The Grove sells tickets 25 minutes after the last show starts. The Bridge sells tickets 30 minutes after the last show starts. I was surprised that, in this economy, extra money was not important to this theater. There are so many other theaters that want my money.....I am done with the Arclight. A friend said I should have bought the tickets on-line, but when I went to explain why I had not, I felt like House at a differential. If you are going to see a 12:35am movie and you decide to see it after midnight, you can NOT by on-line tickets for that show. The systems setup says it is the next day, wile the theater says it is the previous day......hence no way to buy the ticket. Try it some time. Wait now there is more (added edit). I was talked into giving them another chance. This time we sent someone ahead (early) to get the tickets and snacks. After purchasing everything the person was told they could not leave the ticket at the front desk or come out of the theater to the lobby to give the late people their tickets ten minutes after the movie started. WHAT??? I was blown way. They would rather give back the more than $60 in tickets and snacks than keep customers who just want to see a movie and are willing to miss the first ten minutes to see it. I tried to talk to a manager so I could understand the logic, but no one would talk to me. I feel sorry for the investors in this theater chain. If you are going to pretend that you are an upscale movie house.......service should be the top priority. Treating your customers like they are grade school children late for a class is not the way to increase sales. Locking out paying customers because they are ten minutes past your schedule is a bit absurd. They are not running a bus line, plane or train that has to leave the station. The employees are still being paid to stand around until the movie is over, why turn away the customer?

To the person who began their review: "First time at the Arclight Sherman Oaks......and my last." The reason you were not allowed in 10 minutes after the show started is that it is disruptive to other theater-goers. If the first 10 or 20 minutes after the official start time were filled with trailers, then it would be OK to let you in 10 minutes late. But one of the nice things about Arclight is that if a show is listed as starting at 7:35, it starts at 7:35. Not 7:55, not 7:45, not even 7:36. It starts at 7:35. Get to your seat on time, and you will have no problem. But once the lights are out, dont expect other viewers to put up with your trying to get to your seat, with your saying "excuse me" repeatedly in the dark, and diverting the attention of people (all those sitting behind those you are moving past) away from the movie, and toward your disruption. If you dont want to follow the rules of the theater, dont pay the price of the ticket. Just like at most apartment buildings. Keep ignoring the rules that you agreed to when you put your signature down on the dotted line, and expect to eventually get evicted (and in L.A., if you cause the ambient noise level in your neighbors apartment to rise by 5db., while the police can only give you a warning the first time they are called, the second time you can get fined, and the 3rd time, in addition to a HEFTY fine, they are entitled to confiscate ALL your sound equipment, but if its impulsive noise, such as from drums or firearms, if the neighbor can hear it at all, the 5 db allowance is nullified.) When you buy a ticket, you are agreeing to follow the rules of the establishment. Now you believe in following rules that you have agreed to, do you not?

Ive been coming to this place for years - even before when it was a Pacific theater. One of the BEST things about this place [was] that they let you bring in your leftovers from adjacent restaurants and even your drinks! Always guaranteed that I would buy a popcorn to help "wash it" down. And even though I moved 15 miles away (while theres another Arclight 2 miles away), I still make regular treks out to Sherman Oaks! But now Ive been told that theyre taking away this privilege! Seriously? I understand you need to make money, but the $15/ticket wasnt enough? Now, since you dont offer much in the way of alternate drinks (IE, NOT soda), its very unlikely that Ill be getting popcorn now because I refuse to drink that poison! Unless you offer some reasonable alternatives - say, some of the Honest Aid Teas & such, youll probably find me spending a lot less these days at the snack-bar (if venturing out that far at all). Of course, you could always change you mind about the "no drinks" policy...

the complaints Im reading here are pretty amusing. you pay more for movies at the ArcLight so you dont have to sit through mindless commercials, the main reason I havent been to an AMC theater in years (not to mention the less likelihood of talking or texting going on near you). if you didnt get enough "butter" on your popcorn, heres an idea: ask for more. your arteries will thank you. and, yes, it is a hike from the parking structure - as with most malls, you have to navigate your way to the movie theater - which will only validate for 3 hours parking. Ive eaten at the Galleria, gotten validated, then driven out and in again to get a new parking ticket, which I then validate at the theater. crazy, I know, but I like to hike. as for complaints about the theaters location - its actual, physical location - theyre not going to move it for you. sorry.
