I recently started working at the Reptile Zoo not too long ago and I was skeptical when I first visited when I noticed all of the small cages and abundance of animals. But after working here for about 2 1/2 months or so I am very surprise by the cleanliness and ability of everyone that works there to inform people about animals and spread there love of animals to the customers. To all the people who reviewed and said that the animals are kept in small cages all day and cages are dirty, this is false. Cages are spot cleaned daily and completely cleaned once a week. We feed all of our animals the appropriate meals when they are supposed to be fed and no one is left hungry. We have so many animals it is impossible to keep track of them all, with more than 60% of our animals being bred in the back and brought in as donations youd think the people who have bad thoughts about our shop would just ask questions and we would humbly accept explaining to you that we take in peoples animals with love and provide them a safe haven to eat, be used for parties and presented, or as an addition to our zoo that our customers love. We are happy to answer any questions at the retail desk if you have any concerns about cages or something that you see that may be wrong. We love our customers but we are here to provide information about animals and give them a home where they will be loved whether it be at the zoo or in your own household. Thank you!!

I dont know how this place has over 4 stars, either people know very little about proper animal care and health, or they just dont care. For some more honest reviews from people who do care about the animals and their keeping, look up Prehistoric Pets on yelp or anywhere else and enjoy the horror stories of over crowded animals, severe parasite infestations in the animals and even in sold animals, and dead animals in the cages from anywhere from stress to disease. Not to mention their Retic Twinky who passed away recently at a very young age because they power feed it to a horrendous extreme causing her to grow way too fast and giving her morbid obesity, all just to get on some talk shows and get in record books. Jay Brewer should really be ashamed of himself, but sadly I dont doubt hed do it all the same in a heart beat if it meant more money, since hes never really cared about the animals to begin with. Keep in mind this place IS Prehistoric Pets, as well as Jurrasic Parties. This shop front operates under all 3 names, they are all one in the same. Id look up yelp reviews on all 3 and heed the warnings you see there.

I am a huge fan of reptiles. This place almost made me cry of sadness and anger. All the cages were filthy and way to small. I saw about 6 snakes and 2 lizards with serious mouth rot, about 4 snakes wheezing and drooling (upper respiratory infection), 2 others had scale rot. Almost every snake of the hundreds had wrinkles, flat stomach, faded scale colors, and foggy eyes. The big pythons were in cages so small they were in big coils with no room to move or stretch out at all. While the rest were all put together of about 4-6 in the same tank. They were also clearly over weight. Even their turtles and alligators were all crammed together in a tiny enclosures with barely any room to move. The people who gave this place a good rating know nothing or dont care about animal health. I have seen lots of animal places that have animals with poor health, but I have NEVER seen animal health near as bad as reptile zoo. If you love reptiles, DO NOT visit the reptile zoo so the place can shut down and the cruelty can end.

Went there for a birthday party. The place smells like a dirty pet store. Many of the reptiles look like they want to get the hell out of their cages, Ive never seen so many reptiles that dont usually move pacing back and forth in their containers. Staff is ok, but some have major attitudes - like Nazi guards on the gate to the "zoo". The party we attended didnt start until 5, and staff refused to let us go in the "birthday room" until 5 - the room was empty, nobody in it - after a large amount of people started showing up they finally told people they could put their gifts in the unoccupied room, but we still werent allowed to go in and sit down. I would not go back, nor would I have a party there. Too overcrowded, too smelly, too many sad looking reptiles.

so many snakes and reptiles! We recently purchased a snake with a lot of problems (mites, bites, and wasnt eating) from a different store. We asked one employee a questions and ended the conversation 20-30 minutes later with so much good information. This employee took time and gave us his full attention, giving us information about our ball python. The place itself was enjoyable and huge, but this employee made our trip special!! (it was the male taking the pictures that day) He just had the best attitude and wanted to share his knowledge and we appreciate it as new, scared, worried snake owners!! Will definitely come back when we visit L.A. again!

I wanted to set the animals free! All of the animals looked like they arent being cared for and most of their habitats are WAY too small. There is definately some molding issues going on. It smells horrible in there. Also, ants and other flying bugs are crawling in the cages. There is a huge overcrowing problem with multiple reptiles in tiny cages. All of the animals look bored and/or sick. The "sale room" was even horrible. Most of the pets for sale were low on drinking water. Dont spend your hard earned money here. They need to give these reptiles to someone who will care for them properly. My eyes dont lie it was sad.

The staff were nice and the reptiles were interesting but it was pretty sad to see so many of the reptiles in very small cages. I agree with the other reviews on here that mention that. Some look calm but plenty of them look frantic to try to get out of their cages. It really looked inhumane in that regard. I think something should be done about mandating larger habitats. It was very sad to see this.

Very interesting actually I think they may have more reptiles then at the San Diego Zoo. Definitely worth the $5 admission price. Only negative some of the reptiles cages had labels and descriptions and some didnt have any markings at all. Oh and as to people comments about the small cages apparently reptiles prefer a limited space it makes him feel safer.

My boys loved it you can feed the turtles some meal worms for a couple of bucks or just check out all cool lizards snakes and spiders they have there. In response to the other reviewers Yes it has a smell to it but if you have ever had a reptile you know they smell a Little. Not that big of a deal its not supposed to smell like a febreeze commercial.

Cool place to check out a variety of turtles, snakes, and other small and big reptiles. This place also sells animals and animal food. You can also feed the turtles if u want and take a pic with a python. The 5 dollar donation/admission is pretty reasonable, specially for the amount of animals they have there. Definitely worth checking this place out.
