I researched aquarium shops in the Thousand Oaks area, not just on the web but in person. I found Aquatic Zoo is the store that had all the features I was looking for. I wanted to develop a relationship with a merchant not just purchase livestock. Ive been a fresh water enthusiast and salt water reef aquarist for over 40 years and I can tell when the people that help me know what their talking about. I was impressed with all of the advice I was given and the livestock was healthy and hearty. The prices are fair and so are the business practices. I was most impressed with the effort put into the filtering system and the culturing of live corals. Friendly service, knowledgeable advice and healthy specimens what more could I want? Im really glad I gave Aquatic Zoo a try and I will continue to be loyal customer.

I have been going to Ken for quite some time buying fish and different items but the other day he really came through for me that saved my fish. I have a Eheim filter on my tank. Since everything is self contained we it went down I was in quite a difficult situation. The other problem without the pump running my flow throw heater was not working also. I needed to get it fixed ASAP. I called Ken and he said he might have the bushing and parts that I needed for my filter. I went to see him and they didnt have the right part. Fortunately he did have another used pump in the back with the right set up. He was great enough to pull the parts I needed to get me out of my jam. Saved my fish and the headaches of re-pluming and making things get by for a few days. Thanks Ken and to your great staff

So I went to there to see what this place was all about. The owner IS VERY Eager to sell something, but I came prepared and very nicely said no thanks to his offers of various types of equipment he was selling. He did this for 10 min straight and only took a break to play with bird hes trying to sell and make sure I hear him doing this. All the shelves are covered in dust, products are overpriced and old, the bird cages are filthy, the fish are in bad shape and he charges 30-40% more than stores like Petco. Ex. he was selling fancy guppies that looked like feeders for $5 when you can get them for $2.99 at Petsmart and theyre actually fancy. I feel so sorry for those birds sitting in there cages outside with no shade...how is still in business????

I bought my first saltwater set up from Aquatic Zoo about 6 years ago. Since then I have bought bigger tanks and better equipment - always from them. I had no clue how to take care of a saltwater tank when I first got it and they were there for me every step of the way. Whenever I bought a fish elsewhere, I found it didnt do good. I got all my water premixed from them and figured out that getting my fish from them was the way to go since they were already used to the water parameters. Theyve been servicing my tank also for about 3 years and do a great job. In fact, some of my corals got so big we had to divide them and switch them out with smaller corals. Love this store.

Upon walking in this place is kinda cluttered but that just goes to show the variety of stuff they have. This place has birds and reptiles and of course fish, both salt and freshwater. The service their is top notch, someone was there able to answer all of my questions and actually knew what he was talking about. I used to go to TATS but that place lacked a good selection and I HATED their customer service. At TATS they always made me feel like I was bugging them even when i was buying $100+!!! Its refreshing to find a LFS with knowledgeable staff, good prices, and the absolute best selection in Ventura County!

I will never go here again!!! Over priced, over taxed, I bought some meal worms to feed my Chinese Water dragon there yesterday and they charged me over $1.50 tax on a $6 item. BESIDES that... EVERY SINGLE meal worm was dead when we went to feed our lizard. Not cool!!!!!! Im glad they were dead though because I didnt feed them to my lizard. I keep wondering if there were a few alive if I had fed him, would he have gotten sick? Beware!

I bought a $30 fish that they said was beautiful for my tank.... it was obviously from the Orient,, as anyone knows about fish from there... they get injected with hormones and sold off... the result being the fish loose their color 1 month later.. thats what happened to mine. I tried to contact aquatic zoo with no response. SHAM... over these guys.. over priced anyways.. go elsewhere

I went there not knowing anything about how to get started on a freshwater tank that I wanted. They guided me through it all, picking the tank, the fish, the food, the chemicals, and how to set it all up. They answered all my questions I had at home through the phone and were very helpful. I would totally recommend if you are wanting to get your first tank!

Walked up when they were closing at 2pm... though the sign and their website said they were open until 6. I felt like I was hassling him by asking if I could look around. The prices were ridiculous. The coral looked less than appealing. Equipment was at least twice as expensive as the worst place online. If I were you, Id avoid this LFS.

They operate a good business. Kent, the owner went out of his way to order specific fish for me. Fish prices were about 5-25% higher than the Woodland Hills store, but they gave me a super discounts/deal on corals & plants with a large purchase. Overall, very knowledgeable & helpful staff with somewhat steep (not outrageous) prices.
