The Carmel Basilica was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. My husband and I visited at the end of the summer, when there were weddings taking place as we were visiting. It is such a special place to be married, and the tourism did not conflict with the ceremonies. The videos in the smaller structures were very interesting and informative. Also, there is a sizeable, beautiful courtyard. If you enjoy learning about the local area and enjoy historical architecture or art, this is a MUST SEE. It will guide you in the direction of other hidden historical sites.

Here lies an almost Disney like relic showcasing a time in human history when ideologies suppressed human life in the name of a deity that promises love and compassion, through a show of how hard and fast a Templar Knight could swing his sword. Rule number one of church club you must fight. Rule number 2 of church club scream deus vult when you slay the heathen scum. Rule number 3 of church club subjugate the brown man. Dont forget to check out the make shift grave of the Indians that they slayed to take that land. Its on the way to the gift shop.

Been here before, this time it was almost closed and it cost to get in now. Its well worth going. Jauniparo Serria grave is there. I pray I didnt spell his name wrong. Anyway you can feel the presence of God very strong in the mission. I was there 4 days ago, and I already regret not taking the time to go in. You surly cant put a price on feeling the Sport of God. And, such a great price. What can I say. Dumb things happen when youre tired. Please make a trip its beyond well worth it!!

Es un lugar de peregrinaje muy especial, el recorrido por las misiones de California está lleno de historia, la misión de Carmel así como el pueblo entero es un lugar imprescindible donde parar en tu viaje por la costa norte.

What a beautiful church and with history as well. We went and visited family over in Pacific Grove and needed a place for Mass and this place fit the bill. There were a lot of tourists milling about but they were very respectful as Mass was in progress. It is definitely a church to visit if youre a collector like me. Id try to describe the beauty of this place but you really have to se it to believe it. Even the bathrooms were situated in a Spanish style building.

Nice little Mission in Carmel with a cemetery and some interesting things to look at. Pros: - basilicas nice and spacious, perfect for weddings - some interesting historical items - something to do while in Carmel (?) - courtyard is huge but not much to do/see Cons: - not much to do here. I can run through it in 10-15mins - parking lot gets pretty full but you can always park around the back or the side - staff isnt very helpful when you have a wedding here

kleine gut erhaltene historische Mission. Es gibt einen sehr schönen Garten. Man kann viel über die historische Bedeutung der Mission erfahren. Wenn man in Carmel ist, sollte man unbedingt diese Mission besuchen.

Just a 15 minute walk from the shopping district of town is this amazing church and mission. It was built in 1771 and I have to say it was far different from any church Ive seen around the world. Maybe because I thought it had a southwest vibe with its wooden beams and lights. While there, explore the museum and grounds. Id suggest you walk there from the main part of town so you can explore the surrounding neighborhoods.

Our daughter and son-in-law were married here in October. If you ever dreamed of a perfect wedding, this place is IT! The wedding coordinator, Liz was most helpful in every way. From the time we arrived for the rehearsal until the last of the wedding family pictures were taken at the altar, everything went very smoothly. Highly recommend for a destination wedding! It was a joyful and memorable day!

A touch of Californias Mission history in Carmel. The museum has a rich history missions headed by Fr Junípero Serra. It is part of the San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo Mission w/c has a school and parish. The admission is $. The museum is very simple and small hence the self guided walk tour which can be completed in 15 minutes. It has a beautiful quaint fountain courtyard and a few small gardens.

One of the most beautiful and picturesque of the missions. The only downside to this mission is the early closure hours. Otherwise you can spend easily a day wandering through the gardens, the buildings, and the museum. This is an active mission so access to the chapel and other areas are limited given possible weddings AND the on site school.

Take 60 minutes out of your day to stop by this place. Home to Californias first library and oldest residence, visited by Pope John Paul II and the final resting place for Juniper Serra (founding father of Californias Mission System and recently canonized in 2015). This place is well restored and what I envision a Mission to look like.

As a day trip it was very relaxing. Serene atmosphere and mild-cool weather. Not too much walking involved but on Sundays, when we visited, a donation is appropriate to walk the mission as Sundays there is Rosary and Mass. Emotional to see and read that St. (Pope)John Paul ll prayed and reflected in the small foyer.

This museum is always changing. It is part of the recently refurbished Carmel Mission Basilica and tells of a history from days of early California. If you have a chance, spend some time touring the entire mission. It is an active parish and masses are held daily. Every brick, flower and picture tells a story.

Beautiful well kept grounds with wonderful bird life including blue Jays and humming birds. The reconstruction efforts are commendable and look wonderful. A great place for photos and a quiet stroll. The history of the church with Father Serras legacy and the presentation and preservation are done nicely.

Costs a couple bucks to get in and walk around. Beautiful grounds, well-maintained. Right across the street from a trailhead on one of the local hiking trails. Worth it if youre in the area or have special interest in such historic buildings, but I wouldnt drive very far out of my way just to see it.

Highly reccomennd this mission. One of the better missions of Califonia. People should go there to have a refreshing bath of history. Bariel space of Father Juniperro Sierra, and 150 year old neophyte who lies in the cemetery. The mission is a headquarters and should be famous all around the world.

This is one of my favorite Missions in California. It is in a quite residential section off of the busy Highway 1. The grounds are beautiful, the people are friendly, the history, and architecture is perfect for a Mission constructed by Father Junipero Serra and his team of dedicated people.

In 1991, my son (then 4) and I prayed that he would have a baby sister. He kneeled at Fr. Serras tomb to say his prayer. I had serious infertility issues and was very lucky to have had him. We will be traveling back there soon to say a prayer of thanksgiving and celebrate her 24th birthday!
