Although the park is very large and pretty, with a lake, ducks, playground, and field space, I would not recommend it to anyone. It is NOT a safe park, with an unpleasant history of crime. There are constant murders that seem to occur there and rapings. A hanging of a homeless man to a tree seemed to have occurred there a few weeks ago. There are also plenty homeless people wondering around. I would advise for you to stay away from this park for the sole reason of safety. Also, the park is not very clean. The lake has dead fish floating on top of it and it smells awful. There is also a lot of graffiti around the park. But if you are to visit the park, go during the day since during the day, the park is safest. Please stay safe as you enjoy yourselfes!!

I often stop here to Poke hunt because the three pokestops accessible from the parking lot. Only notable catch here are the Magnemite which are plenty. Would be a decent park if it didnt attract so many homeless. Honestly its weird trying to decipher whether the odd guys sitting in their cars everytime you visit are in a bad spot or just creepers. Would say better things as for the park itself but because its a matter of feeling safe, comfortable, about your kids, I say go elsewhere. AND if u do decide you are going to come here afterall be sure their is plenty of sunlight left in the day. Cortez park has almost no lighting during dark hours.

Having gone to school around here and I drove by this park again after so many years I was appalled to see the condition of this park. The groundskeeping is atrocious and it looks like it hasnt been done in a very long time there was hardly any grass at least any that looks alive. Sure the little water park and pool area was crowded and busy but the other 90% of the park almost look like it was an abandoned Park in the first place period very very sad this could be a nice park but it is very neglected

It is a decent, if dated, park. However, more unsavory types can be found here more frequently than other parks we visit. Fishing seems to be allowed. Pond is sometimes dirty and smelly, but the wildlife is friendly. Nice walking path around it. A figure 8 around the pond using the bridge is about 1/2 km...so a bit boring if hatching Pokemon. For those with kids, they did just re-do the jungle gym / player area. Basketball court as well.

Please do yourself the favor and drive past it. Place is so disgusting. Dead fish everywhere, made for a horrible Oder. The homeless people run the area. A few years ago, a man jumped in the man made pond and drowned. Theres always something going on there. Please look out for your kids and go else where. I really wish I had more positive things to say about the place as it is part of my upbringings.

I visited the park to fish in the evening and it was solemn and relaxing. There were turtles in the lake and ducks as well. What I wasnt too thrilled about was the amount of debris and trash at the east end of the lake. Last but not least, there is a nice size water park at Cortez equipped with two slide tubes and diving boards. Nice place.

The water in the lake is so dirty that you can not even see a fish you have caught until you have it almost out of the water. The park workers dont keep the park as clean as it could be. Also they close the restrooms at least 2 and a half hours before the park closes and you cannot even secure the doors of the stall.

There are a number of homeless people at the park. There are 2 playgrounds separated by age appropriate equipment. There are basketball courts. An artificial pond with fishing ducks and turtles. There are some stinky bathrooms with no stall doors. Overall its a great park as long as you watch your kids closely.

I come here to walk around and eat my lunch. Great views and plenty of space for exercise. I see families here all the time. There are covered ramadas that go quick, as well as a kids playground. There are also basketball courts. Not to mention the main attraction, which is a small lake that allows for fishing.

Let me tell you the best fishing in town local seafood better than any restaurant you ever find in this town. Fresh farm-raised catfish monster trout trophy Bass blue bluegill Turtles carp birds of every type great place. If you like fishing or picnicking on the beach is definitely worth a visit. Tight lines.

Great park if you want to fish or ride your bike. Otherwise ever time I have been there its dirty trash in ground etc. Also parents not disciplining their kids. Kids will literally just run right in front of u as u are fishing and go through your line etc. also lots of roaches/bugs and it sometimes stinks.

I like the park. I walk my dog there everyday and he loves it. The only problem I have encountered is this guy lurking around and taking picture of young children. I seen him enter the restroom constantly every time a little boy enters. I recently found out he is a homeless man. Its just very unsettling.

I like this place because of its history and Ive been coming here since I was a child. The fishing is ok and the park is great for families during the day. Its just that at after dark, theres shady characters and a group of homeless people who always gather on the outskirts of the park.

Do many homeless people there so many drugs laying around neddels. It would be a beautiful park is they straight it up and get rid of all them homeless people. It would be a nice family park and a peaceful area without having people coming up to you begging for money or food

There are a group of four teens hanging out of the park picking on homeless and jumping vulnerable youth. Be careful at night or early morning hours. Police have not taken care of these boys and they are known to live in apartments near Circle K.

One of the most disgusting parks ever I understand the homeless have nowhere to go.Most dont bother anyone but there are a few you cant even look in their direction without them talking trash and getting aggressive. Not a nice place for kids......

It has been recently remodeled and the playground is now amazing and kids love it. The fishing is still pretty tame. But the homeless population just randomly walking up and talking to your kids is enough to find another park.
