Its right in the heart of the theater district of the live entertainment capital of the world. Unsurprisingly, Birdland has no shortage of top-notch musicians and entertainers. I attended Jim Carusos Cast Party several times. The Wall Street Journal calls Cast Party the "gold standard" of open mic in New York City--and thats saying a lot. Jim Caruso hosts the glitziest weekly open mic in the East Coast, attended by celebrities and other showbiz types. Broadway stars are a staple at these shows, but other performers do take the stage--dancers, instrumentalists, cabaret/lounge acts and the occasional novelty act. Going to Birdland is always a treat. The space exudes class and a long history of brilliant musicianship. The booze doesnt hurt either.

You come here for the music, this is one of the top venues in NY, the acts are always good and usually famous musicians. Stacey Kent only plays here when in NY. The food is OK, not great, quality can vary, I usually eat before coming here. Cocktails can also vary, they have a few good tenders and a few not so, so if you care go up and have a conversation and see which youve got that night. Location is good for business Im sure but it gets crowded as a result. For the 8:30 set you will need a rez especially thurs-sat or if the band is very well known. $40 cover and $10 minimum, occasionally more. This is a mostly no-talking-during-set jazz club. Have your conversations before or after.

As I age I thought I should revise my review. I still think Birdland is a great Jazz venue. The problem is the food, which is terrible, and the drinks, which could be undrinkable. Dont buy the food. Uncle Ben had better jumbalia. As for drinks, stick with simple ones. The cocktails are made pre-cocktail renaissance style. Meaning they are usually too sweet and fall flat flavor wise. I recommend sticking to wine, beer or straight liquor. If not youll be OK with a Manhattan, if you specify your whiskey. Again the venue and acts are great. The décor is reminiscent of the mid 20th century, unfortunately so is the food and drink. Keep this in mind and youll have a great time.

Absolutely incredible experience. I visited this place 5th May, to watch Count Basie Orchestra. They were really legendary and humorous, simply speaking, perfect. No one can exceed the years of experience. And the bartender was very kind and professional, I was very satisfied. I and my wife ate a kind of pasta, Fusilli, the same with which the orchestra members ate before performance, and it was very clean and delicious. and recommending strongly, when you visit here you have to drink Yardbird, the cocktail which Charlie Parker had used to drink. Absolutely great!

This is an intimate venue that hosts outstanding performers. We saw the Django Festival Allstars, who were such a pleasure to hear and watch! The entrance fee is a bit pricey, but the quality of music and food make it worth while. I highly recommend the mac n cheese! The service seems pretty solid overall, however our server forgot a drink order and to follow up on a dessert choice for a long while. I personally think a drink "on the house" or a discounted dessert should have been offered.

Awesome jazz place in the theater district, they play late night sets so its easy to catch one after watching a show. Look in your playbill, last time I went they had a discount on the cover charge which included a drink. Ive also paid for a table which did make watching the show just a little more comfortable than watching standing up or from the bar. Worth it if you want to relax. Phenomenal quality musicians and the vibe of the place is just right!

One of the best nights out I had in NYC 2014. I was dropping off my laundry a block away when I walked past here. As a Parker fan from an early age, I have always wanted to play (or at least go) to Birdland with my dad. I was lucky to catch some of the last set of the Birdland Big Band. I knew my old man was there with me in spirit. One of the best moments of my life! Great vibe, great music, friendly staff.

Oh my! The food and entertainment were well worth the price. I had the ribs and they were excellent! Surprisingly, the sides - collards, coleslaw and potato strings were a great compliment to the ribs. I am so glad I did not substitute. Alicia Olatuja is a super talent with an amazing voice! I have never heard "Amazing Grace" sung in such a beautiful way. A must to check out!

First time going to Birdland on a friends recommendation. We went to the 11pm show. Show up early to get your name on the list. We were front and center of the stage. Tables are candle lit which creates a soothing atmosphere. We didnt realize till after the show but you can get tickets on Groupon for about $25 (we paid $40) and thats not including a $10 min for food per person.

This is the Best Jazz Club in NY ,great sight lines ,pretty good food ,excellent drinks and the most professional staff you will find .My wife and I attend 10 to 15 shows here a year and sitting at the bar is great too. The most telling thing about this club ,I was there for a show and Tony Bennett was there for a Birthday celebration (His) ,what more can you say .
