There was a little bit of trouble during my visit, but none of it really on the employees side. Complaints up front: seat confusion- I bought 6 tickets a month ahead of time but there were people in 2 of our seats. Both our tickets and theirs had the right info on it. The two people (who ended up being extremely obnoxious during the film, one I had been super excited to see) moved to the nearest seats and we were sat and ordered our food. By the time the confusion cleared up, turned out it was some sort of error between them and fandango. They got the seats they were in, but for the wrong night. When they exchanged them, they got the seats they ended up in on fandango, but the theater kiosk somehow printed the right night, but wrong seats from the first order. Again, not necessarily the theaters fault. Second one didnt affect me, but my little sister got her food almost 30 minutes after us and she didnt even like it. I kind expected a long food wait because it was a big premier night. Okay, so the good stuff!!! I was very skeptical about this place, but really wanted to try it. I had heard a little bit about employees being distracting and such and it almost made me return my tickets, because this was a movie I didnt want to miss. HOWEVER, the employees were awesome and not distracting to me at all. The people next to me were, but not the theaters fault. The waiter did everything he could to be proficient without distracting anyone, even basically crawled on his knees during the film. The food was great. Got some sort of bleu burger and fries. Much better than popcorn and a movie. I typically dont drink alcohol... Almost ever, but I had an angry orchard, ate great food, and watched one of the best movies Ive seen to date. I really liked having space in the aisles and seats. I would go here just for that, even if I wasnt eating. Overall an amazing experience and I will go again. Just probably not on a big premier night with a big group... One or the other maybe. Next time my wife and I are in Williamsburg, we are definitely going back. Only 4 stars just because of the first two things, but next time we go back, Im sure it will get 5 stars from me. P.S. To the guy who hated the assigned seats... That was one of the best parts!!! I hate trying to find seats at a restaurant or theater. So something that provides both and has assigned seats?! It has my vote! And you can pick the best seats online ahead of time?!?!

The staff is friendly and the establishment is nice and fairly clean. HERE is why I gave this place 2 stars. The idea of this place is creative and clever. Dinner and a movie. Unfortunately, that does NOT make a nice movie experience. My husband and I came here to Williamsburg for a small vacation. We were really excited to see the latest Hobbit movie that was released a few days ago so we made sure to go and see it here in Williamsburg. We decided that The Movie Tavern was the closest and most convenient place to go. Although we loved the movie, we will never return to this theatre again to see a movie when we visit. The lights that are at the tables you sit behind are VERY distracting during the movie and worst and most annoying of all, each level of seating is only about 5 inches higher than the row in front of it (instead of about a foot like most theatres) so everyones head was visible on the screen and when people stood up and moved (which was happening constantly), they were standing in front of the screen. It was SO annoying. We were so excited to see this movie and this setting was very disappointing & a real damper on the movie. The least they could do is make the levels a lot higher so the screen isnt blocked...then this theatre would be 90% better. (I posted a photo of the theatre before people came in and you can see how close the chairs are to the screen...and thats without ppl in them!)

Yesterday I had the opportunity to see The Conjuring 2 at Movie Tavern, and it was a perfectly fine time. Once we got our tickets and arrive at our preselected seats, there seemed to be a bit of a wait before our server responded to our button press for service. She was friendly and accommodating, though. I ordered the margarita sangria swirl, and Im still not certain there was any alcohol in it. Also, it didnt necessarily taste like either a margarita or sangria, but more like a frozen pixy stick. Prepare yourself for tons of sugar. My girlfriend ordered the root beer float which was more of just cream in root beer than ice cream, and she claimed that it tasted very odd. The only bit of food that we ordered was the popcorn bucket, and thank goodness we didnt ask for butter. There was plenty of butter already on it as well as tons of salt. Our server was very discreet during the film as I didnt even notice her dropping off check off towards the end. The seats in the theater, while fairly comfortable, were also very noisy. Id say this is an ideal place to go to get away from the younger crowds and enjoy a movie in a quiet atmosphere, but for the real dining while watching experience, I prefer CineBistro in Hampton, VA.

I agree with other users in that I strongly dislike the new setup. One thing that used to make MT unique was that they had a menu with alcohol and real food (burger, veggie tray, pizza, sandwiches, and even salads) all at the concession stand. This was all great because you could order at the concession stand in the lobby, get your food, then carry to your seat. Unfortunately, with the new setup, the distraction of having waiters walk in and out of the theater delivering food, bills, etc. in the middle of a show really distracts us from being able to stay focused on the show and detracts from the overall movie-going experience. This is why we used to go to Movie Tavern instead of Cinema Cafe, Cinebistro, and others that offer the "waiter" service in the middle of a movie, which we have never liked. Unfortunately, with the theater upgrade, Movie Tavern lost its uniqueness by trying to be like the others. As such, even though we used to patronize the theater 1 - 4 times a month, we have not returned since the "upgrade." I hope at some point the theater realizes the advantages with the former setup and returns to that. Until then, we will take our business elsewhere as there are too many distractions now.

I used to LOVE this place... Then they did the remodel. On the plus side the seats are more comfortable but thats about it. The food is so much worse now. My wife amd I went to breakfast and a movie I ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of fryed egg. The biscuits were burned so I sent them back, which meant I had to leave the movie to go find someone (more on that later) and my eggs came out scrambled. When they brought it back the eggs were fryed to the point the eggs were rubber, and the 3 half biscuits that Ibpaid $6 for were still burned. On top of that the owners now expect you to tip the staff. That is outrageous, they do not do enough direct customer service to warrent a tip. The owner is having me subsidize them not paying their workers a fair wage. I would rather they not walk through my movie to talj to people, they take forever to come when you push the button anyway. I am so disappointed with what movie tavern has become. I will be going to either cinebistro or regal from now on. MovieTavern has really taken a turn for the worse
