Four couples along with my wife and I attended the restaurant this past Saturday night (11/30/2010). A security guard checked my MILITARY I.D, then Xd the top of my hands and gestured me to enter. I proceeded to the bar to get a drink for my wife and I; however, I was denied because of the X on my hand. Now knowing what the “X” meant, I returned downstairs to the security guard to correct this issue as I am 30yrs old, and my wife is 29. The security guard accused me of switching my ID with someone. He could not give a name or face to whom he thought I received the ID. My military ID is a valid photo ID with my birth date and SSN#. My group consisted of 6 people total. I was told to get all my friends and bring them down to be re-checked for proper identification. I was furious with the demand and embarrassed by the accusation which was done in front of the incoming crowd. I was denied a refund and belittled verbally to the leading security guard who also said he owned the establishment. After 15 min of defending my character in a back and forth shouting match with this RUDE security guard/owner, I was told to leave without a refund. My wife and I had several friends with us that witnessed the RUDE customer service. I WILL NEVER, NEVER ADVISE ANYONE TO GO TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT, NOR WILL I ATTEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN. I am a military service member with 7+ yrs of dedicated service and a proud tax payer! This was THE worst treatment I have ever received!

I had went here for my 21st bday only because Peabodys wouldnt let all my friends into their club (which is ridiculos) but anyways. They charged my boyfriends card almost $30.00 for one drink. Besides the fact that me and all my friends were jumped and thrown out of the bar. I will never attend this club or any other club in VA Beach. Their "sercurity" seperated everyone in my group leaving two of our people in the club to be jumped!!!!! While meanwhile five cops are standing right outside. My friends were threw down the stairs, and jumped on by people we didnt evevn know!!!! How crazy!!!! This club is wack, and everyone who goes there is wack too!

Came here to see The Fall of Troy, and I will not be returning. The staff was rude during check-in, and at the bar. During the show this place allowed multiple people to come to the floor with glass beer bottles, and this resulted in spilled beer and broken glass on the floor during the entire show. I reported the problem to a bartender and to a security guard as I watched multiple fans slip on the beer into a pile of glass, but nothing was done to rectify the situation. Ever need a suggestion of a place for Bar Rescue? This is a great candidate!

I went to Shakas to celebrate my 21st birthday. We had a big group (~15 people) and made our own section basically. The DJ was great if you like electronic dance music. The atmosphere and lighting was great as well. Drink are a little expensive, but thats the same at all places on the ocean front. I didnt check out the restaurant part downstairs, but overall the upstairs and dance floor was awesome. If your looking for a good dance club - this is the place to go.

I went on a Wednesday night and got the table in the center of the club as it packed in with young people. I was in a dress but rest of the female crowd was in shorts. The wait staff was quick to get us drinks. The gogo dancers were terrible. The dj was playing dub / hardstep but 1 minute each song. The crowd would get going but when the songs changed too quickly, the dancefloor emptied. The bass sounded better from outside. We left after an hour.

Loved that they had an upstairs bar and dj and a downstairs one as well there is also a smoking room so you dont have to be away from the music or outside the building. The drinks were not pricey at all and they are strong. The staff is really cool and the djs have no problems with requests. I went there for my bday and had a ball! I def want to go back and I recommend this club for laid back people who love to dance

Worst place ever to see a show. Poor beer selection and they are crooks. Was told from an artist performing there that I was on the guest list. When I got there we were not. The artist informed ticket takers I was supposed to be on the guest list. Then ensued the run around about refunds even tho we paid cash. Needless to say we were never refunded the $30 and I will never patronize this establishment again.

Bartender (Nathaniel) double-charged my entire tab. I had paid it, and tipped based on twice the correct total. Both, he, and his "manager" were complete douchebags about it, refusing to void the transaction, or to credit my bankcard. Instead, he refunded, in cash, the amount of the overcharged drinks, but maintained an excessive and undeserved tip. This place sucks. Amateurish and tacky. Idiotic staff.

Great venue for close up experiences, solid atmosphere, and solid set up in general! However, the service (people who work there) are not totally reliable to due what theyre paid to do (regulating how many go in the venue, and when to let those in line know when theyre no longer letting people in). Still, Id give it a 9/10 - provided you can get in!!

Tonight was my first night going to shakas & the place was empty & it took our waitress 20 minutes to get our drinks. Also I paid with a credit card & they took more money out of my account then they were suppose to. I wouldnt recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Shakas is by far the best Concert Venue in Virginia Beach. The drinks taste to my perfection, they have excellent staffing with the bartender, security and waitresses. Also they bring in a lot great bands and performers to set up an intimate crowd for great time.

Wonderful venue with some of the best sound at the oceanfront. Friendly courteous staff wonderful bartenders and bouncers that look out for you. Despite what people may say this place only wants to make sure that you and all the other customers have a good time.

Band was nice and played really well. However this place is just terrible and racist. They kicked me out because I was having a good time and being black. So all of my fellow black folk be careful and dont have too much fun otherwise theyll kick you out.

Awesome Tiger Army show! It was our first time visiting this venue and the bar was quick to serve, the room was kept at a good temperature despite the large crowd, the staff managed the crowd well and there was plenty of parking in the lot right in front.

Cheap drinks, quick bartenders, clean atmosphere. It is nice and convenient that you can bring your drinks downstairs to the Seaside bar down below and vice versa. They have a nice music blend and plenty of dance floor space for those who want to dance.

Everything was fine except your racist security staff " oh you have to have a black man tell you what to do" I addressed the situation and he proceeded to run his mouth to me he was invoking violence and I am past that part in my life, get a better crew.
