The cafe is terrible; if we would have skipped the cafe I would be giving this place 4-stars. Ill start with the positives... The animal exhibits were nice, the park is very well maintained, and the park staff was friendly. At less than $20 per person it was a good value. The tram was fantastic. The cafe on the other hand didnt match the park experience. Terribly overpriced for what youre getting and customer service was shockingly bad. The $9 cheesebuger is cafeteria quality at best and any produce (lettuce, tomato, onion) is an extra $0.50... They made a mistake and only brewed sweetened tea the day we visited; my wife wanted unsweetened tea so asked for a refund on her beverage order, this request was met with digust from the manager who in turn treated my wife extremely poorly. I find it odd they dont provide straws or lids (you know, to protect the animals) yet they have no issues giving you apples in plastic bags, using plastic coated paper cups, plastic flatware, and a multitude of other poorly gradeable products. Lets me honest - they dont provide lids or straws because they want to save money while charging customers the maximum they think they can get. Use paper straws (like the Monterey Bay Aquarium) if you care so much about the environment - but based on the everything else the cafe provides, I can deduce they really dont care and only use it as an excuse. Bottom line, preserve a positive experience and skip the cafe... The rest of the park is gem.

So on my last day in Seattle, I was stuck trying to decide if I should drive up to Vancouver, BC, Leavenworth, WA, or this place. Since I had been to Vancouver before, I decided to come here after I read positive reviews. I DO NOT REGRET COMING HERE. Northwest Trek is about an hour and a half south of Seattle. It was an awesome experience! So much wildlife. Its classified as a zoo on Google Maps, but I wouldnt call it a zoo. There is so much open land for these animals to enjoy. Its more like we humans are the enclosed ones. The tram ride around the whole place was fun. I got to see Bison, elk, moose, different types of goats, swans, caribou, deer, etc. And you can open the windows in the tram to get pictures. The animals sometimes walk right next to the path the tram takes. The animals look so happy here. After the tram, I walked around the other side and saw the grey wolves they had, black bears, big cat species, owls, Golden Eagles, otters, skunks, porcupines, etc. And the wolves howled. I had never heard a wolve howl in real life. It was such a cool thing to witness. I love this place. I swear Ill be back here again.

We love NW Trek so much that we bought an annual membership so we could visit often. The tram ride is our favorite because we get an up-close view of wildlife. The new baby moose has been a huge hit with our family and we delight in watching her grow! It is neat to see the progression of growth of the elk, moose and deer antlers throughout the season. The zip-line adventure was fun for our family (kids ages 9 and 11) and we also enjoy the walking the trails. The animal encounter talks are interesting and gives us an opportunity to see animals that are not on display otherwise. The beavers and otters are a joy to watch and any trip is not complete until we have gotten to see them. My favorite part of NW Trek is that it is nothing like a city zoo... It has a very open, woodsy feel. From the parking lot to the walking trails we enjoy the wide-open spaces of this well preserved woodland area! I am thankful to the family that had the vision to preserve this space and donated their land for wildlife and families to enjoy!

Ive been here twice. This review details my most recent experience. It was a little rainy when we first got there, but under the tree cover we didnt get wet. It can be quite peaceful and relaxing when the park first opens, walking through the animal exhibits and the nature trails. The animals were sleeping when we first arrived, but around midday most were active and looked really healthy and content. I wondered if the animals became more active as the park became more crowded and therefore noisy with the sounds of children. I think people of all ages really enjoy the park. We went on the tram and sat in the front car. The tour guide had mentioned that they needed the first car to be quieter due to their microphones picking up conversations of passengers, and encouraged families with enthusiastic children to choose the second or third cars rather than the first. People were still quite chatty (apparently there was a "second" tour guide sitting behind me...

My Ratings: Overall - 4 stars Animal Welfare - 4.5 stars Photographer’s Experience - 2 stars For Children - 5 stars Northwest Trek exceeded my expectations for a public wildlife sanctuary in the U.S. The best feature to this park is the tram tour. All of the animals appear to be in great health and are well taken care of. Many areas are designated for children to engage them in activities. As an adult, I valued the layout of the entire park because of its various pathways and landscape. The efforts that the park takes to educate the community about wildlife and conservation are extremely noble and dedicated. As a wildlife photographer, some enclosures would need substantial improvements if they wish to give photographers, like me, an easier and better experience. In conclusion, Northwest Trek is a very good sanctuary in Washington and serves as an admirable model for other wildlife sanctuaries.

why havent you gone yet? This place is like some of the other do not miss for tourists (i.e. pike place, mt. rainier, snoqualmie falls, etc.)but locals seem to all miss it. It is unlike most zoo type places in that it is very natural and you will see a lot of animals you may have never seen up close. the tram tour is cool in that it is much like driving through yellowstone, you may see a ton or just a few animals but it is always great especially on a rainy day. Our kids have loved the animal encounters that are presented in certain areas where they can handle and touch small creatures. Never crowded, reasonably priced with plenty of parking and although not super close to seattle, the drive is fun in itself. You could even make a weekend out of it and drive to Rainier and stay somewhere overnight. give this place at least multiple hours.

What is there not to love about this park! If you are new to the west cascades in Washington, you need to visit! This park is a northwest nature specific park. You learn about the flora as well as the fauna. Educational. Beautiful, natural enclosures for the animals. You can tell the staff really truly have a heart for what they do and care about conservation and education. They have a huge playground for the littles to get their energy out, and a place for the bigger "kids" to zip line near the cafe. There are even some short hiking trails. The staff has always been super nice, the keeper chats are so educational and you can get up close to the creature. Just wish they had more keeper talks each day. The tram is a must! Plan to spend the day there if its your first time. This is worth the price tag for admission, in my opinion.
