Stone Tower Winery specializes in Bordeaux-style wines and has a strong focus on quality. They are in the process of expanding their tasting room and event facilities, which shows promise for the future. The winery is also known for its beautiful views and ample space, making it a popular choice for events like weddings.

Pros: Good wines, scenic drive, beautiful area, friendly staff Cons: No restaurant or food, still developing, only dry wines (good and bad) Stone Tower Winery, located in the heart of Loudon County and off of Hogback Mountain, just outside of Leesburg, has recently been established. The mile drive just off 15 is a beautiful drive, with fields and amazing views leading up to the winery. I arrived and was welcomed by Danielle, who was somewhat friendly. She explained the tastings and I opted to go with the vintage tasting, which included all of their wines and a glass to take home. We went through their 6 wines which in my opinion were pretty well balanced for a new winery. Two of the six wines are not from their vineyard (2009 and 2011 Sanglier Noble) but are from Virginia grapes. Also notable is the way they ferment the fruit for their Viognier, which is in a concrete egg, something I have never heard of before, but apparently is used by some other wineries around the world but not as common. The interior of the current tasting room has an relaxing feel but not as great as other wineries in the area. They have an upstairs as well for parties and events. The owners are working on expanding the winery and tasting room. The new buildings will include a larger tasting room, making the current tasting room an events room for club members and possibly future rentals. Also, what appears to be a new production and barrel room. I was told this should be completed by fall of 2014. Overall, I definitely recommend this winery. The drive, the area, the wines are a great addition to Virginia. This new winery has some great expectations and I look forward to seeing what comes of this excellent base. The expansion shows promise and I can see this being a up and coming vineyard and winery of Virginia, climbing its way to the top. I think work on their young wines will also turn into some excellent wines in the following years. I look forward to visiting this winery again once they complete the expansion and finish developing the other two wines from their own vineyard!

My husband and I are making an effort to visit as many Virginia wineries as possible and this one definitely has some pluses (and minuses). PLUS: Space and views are great - we felt like the "family" side (kids and dog friendly) was a lot more approachable (and we dont have kids)...its in the original tasting room, which is a really nice, rustic barn with a ton of outdoor space. Multiple food vendors were around and it was a lovely place to sit and enjoy the views. The "Adult" side (21+), has a much more formal feel and great decor - definitely perfect if youre going out with a group of people and want to have a more sophisticated feel to your experience. I liked that you can almost choose what kind of experience you want to have based on the spaces. Both areas were very open, so you dont feel crammed in with everyone else like sardines. MINUS: The tasting didnt include more than one wine made from actual Virginia grapes. Personally, I would prefer to see at least two or three wines made from Virginia grapes on the menu. I understand wanting to have a variety, but youre a Virginia winery with 300 acres (obviously not all are planted but still). Perhaps those wines are for purchase only, or reserved for club members? Not sure, didnt ask. When I asked where the grapes for the tasting menu wines were from I was told they were from "all over". Regardless, the wines are very good quality, although a bit pricey for my wallet - but I expect that for a Loudoun County address...

This is definitely in my Top 5 of Virginia Wineries!!! As a new winery in Leesburg, I cant wait to see how their quality and production grows as their vines become more established. They focus on refined Bordeaux-style wines - this is not the place if you want the party bus, sugary sweet, frat party vibe at some wineries. This is where I recommend my clients and family come out to visit. As an event designer, I love working with Stone Tower. They are flexible and responsive. I hosted a wedding lunch in the vineyard after a group tasting in the top level of the barn. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. The wines are amazing. I love the 2009 Sanglier Noble in their Wild Boar label (meaning the grapes were not yet estate grown). On my last visit, we enjoyed the sun setting over the view of the vineyard sipping a glass of Rose and their Sparkling Blanc de Blanc. Make sure to visit this winery and keep up with them as they complete their new tasting room and event facility. If youre planning to see a few vineyards, you may decide to just hang out for the whole day :) They do not have a restaurant so be sure to pack a picnic.

Beautiful place with beautiful scenery. This place is huge. Has two floors for tasting. Not such a cozy feeling. Very loud. Came on a Saturday. I really didnt like their choices of wine. Been to a few wineries. I was very disappointed with wines here. Tasting is $15 per person which I think is ridiculously high plus you have to pay an extra $5 if you want to keep the glass. What???? Prices for bottles of wine is ridiculous. Lowest price is about $30 and runs up into the 70s. With that said, I must be missing something because it is very crowded here. I didnt like the wines and sure didnt like the prices so I have to say I wont be returning.

Our daughter was recently married at Stone Tower Winery and I simply do not have the right words to express how wonderful this place is or the unbelievable help and involvement of the owners and their staff to make that day unforgettable. We have visited this winery many times and it is absolutely our favorite Virginia winery. A relaxing venue for a summer (or any other time of year) afternoon with beautiful views of the Virginia countryside to enjoy superb wines hosted by fabulous people. Put it to the top of your list to visit if you are close to Leesburg.

The winery was great and our tour guide very knowledgeable. I gave the review a 4 out of 5 on the basis of the early closing time on Saturdays. We had a wine tour booked for 4.15 but due to traffic delays didnt get started until 4.30. We were then told that they stopped uncorking at 5.30. We rushed through the tasting so that we could grab a bottle of wine and enjoy the last 30 minutes or so of relaxing on the deck. It would have been much more pleasant to sit for a few hours. So BE AWARE of this and go early.

Not a fan of their white wines at all. Reds are great but expensive ($40 - $65 a bottle). Tastings are $15 per person, yet I enjoy wineries with $5 tastings much more. I feel like Stone Tower charges more per tasting because people like their wine less and are less likely to take home a couple bottles, so Stone Tower has to make their money somewhere. Which I dont mind in concept. I just dont see myself coming back, not recommending it to somewhere else. Just my opinion.

Pros: Rustic place with great views. Wine was good and their glassware was not too expensive. They had wicker chairs outside as well, overlooking the hills. There is an upstairs loft. Cons: they allow children and dogs. I dont have an issue with dogs, but two of them began fighting in the tasting room. No one wants to go to a winery and find a dog hair in their wine glass. If the dogs were only allowed outside, it wouldve been better.
