Decent course for a beginner. But buyer beware, 18-22 year old college students operate and run the pro shop. One claimed to be manager apparently. We were on hole 3 fairway and notice that the flag on the green been at a 60 degree angle. This was due to an issue with the insert of the hole. We wrapped up hole 3 and patiently waited for the group of 4 in front of us in the shade on a cart path. Before you know it here comes a college student from the pro shop immediately telling us we had to leave. He begins swearing to us before we even discuss to see what the issue is. For waiting patiently in the shade? Nope. According to a "loyal customer", we drove OUR GOLF CART on the green and through the standing flag, breaking it after we completed the hole. The boy was SWEARING blatantly toward us in accusations offending my friend and I. The manager made no effort to report the employees rude behavior directed towards us. Our side of the story was swiftly dismissed. We were strictly on cart paths near all greens. We have played before and are not clueless of golf etiquette. Left the BlackHawk facility in awe of what happened, and we quickly made our way to star ranch golf club to play one of the funnest rounds of golf my buddy and I have played. Go the extra 5 minutes to star ranch golf club. Worth every penny.

Very disappointing! Horrible value in the $40 green fee for the disappointing condition of the course. Greens are excellent but fairways were thin, weedy and with numerous bald areas and portions roped off as under repair so long that the rope had disintegrated. Bunkers have not been maintained and have grass growing inside them; the faces and high spots have the base sticking out of the sand. In one a ball almost bounce out of the bunker! I had not played this for about 12 years and in the past found it to be an excellent course, well maintained and a great value for anytime of the week. First impression was the wet hot dog buns in the club well of the cart. Pace of play was great with a round of 4:15 but with the number of quality layouts in this price range in this area I think management will have to change or take notice to restore this layout to its past glory. I would not recommend this course to anyone until they either invest in the maintenance or reduce the green fee to a level below the area city owned courses. Date of play was May 27, 2012, It appears that things have not improved since Brad played here.

We had an 815am tee time on a Saturday. Right before us, a man in flip flops teed off by himself and off he went as a solo. So my father-in-law pull up next and were told to wait for a little while so they could find a couple people to pair with us. Maybe I should have worn flip flops? Anyways, the pair we golfed with was really a non-issue. Pairing happens and they were good people to golf with. As for the course. It had its ups and downs. There were some greens and fairways that were alright but others that had patches, sizable ant hills, sandy spots on green and some sand pits that had to have used the same sand from at least last year. For the pace - the four of us were mostly duffers and played loosely in a little over 4 hours so no complaints there. The staff were friendly, no complaints there. Im only giving it 3 stars because the course, while fun to play had some issues that could affect your play if you were trying to get a good score instead of have a good time. One more note - you will need some accuracy because a lot of the holes have homes on both sides of the fairway. Dont break any windows!

Played here on 2/26/2012. While the greens were in pretty good shape, the rest of the course was atrocious. There is no differentiation between fairway and rough, the fairway doesnt have much grass, it played like concrete (the ball doesnt stop), and the bunkers are not kept up at all. However, the worst part was the pace of play. I understand that waiting can happen anywhere, but when I asked the starter about being behind, he nonchalantly stated that this happens "every day". My guess is because they pack the tee times so tightly together that you never have space to play. We waited 5-10 minutes on every tee box and several minutes in most fairways. Do not recommend.

Dont even think about bringing some water on to the course. Their rules prohibit ANY outside drinks including water. In a year there can be 60 days over 100 degrees in Austin and they have to milk the customer for every penny possible. Sure some customers may understand these types of rules but when your a father trying to introduce 13 and 10 year olds to the game the green fees are expensive enough without forcing your customers to buy $3 bottles of water from your grill. Thats BAD BUSINESS IMO and no wonder golf is on the decline.

Overall this course plays fairly easy, which is to say it is a great course for beginners or intermediate players. There arent a ton of hazards (sand or water), but enough to keep you honest. The course is usually maintained pretty well, although during the summer it can get a little scorched on some of the holes due to the Texas heat. Ive played here many times, and I usually moves at standard pace. The prices are fair, and actually on the low end of some of the municipal courses around town.

Played here on 4/16/12. The greens were so-so but the fairways were TERRIBLE !!!! I refused to pull a fairway wood out on a par 5 because of where I was laying in the MIDDLE of the fairway on a patch of DIRT !!!! Sorry not gonna beat my woods up on hard packed dirt. Sand traps were a joke and basically just concrete. Ill play Star Ranch 50 times over before I go here again.

I have played this course quite a bit lately. The course itself is in great shape with the dry Texas weather. The pro shop seems a little empty with some stuff but not a huge selection. The course plays to a challenge with the need to shape shots on certain holes. Overall with the new carts the experience is is a 7.5/10. I will play this course multiple times this season.

I have only played the course once (8/2009). The course was pretty straight-forward with pretty open fairways - nothing too tricky. With the hot summer, the course was pretty dry and hard (some of the "rough" played more like concrete), but the greens were pretty nice. Bottom line: great price that is hard to beat, but they really need to soften up the course

i have played here twice and have had a great time both times. the course does have water coolers every few holes, so if you cant spring for water take a bottle and fill it up. we take our own water and beer, never had a problem. Also, you get two free drinks when you pay for your cart and green fee. give this course a chance, it isnt that bad.

Decent course but the greens were a bit patchy and some of the fairways needed real work. The sand traps were in horrible condition with little to no sand. It was still OK to play. It also felt like people were teeing off behind at their leisure instead of at their tee time. It could have been they were rushing time beat the rain though.
