A Houston
We frequent this theater every weekend (most weekends). I have never felt so discriminated against, as countless other guests mentioned while waiting in line, to have my purse checked before seeing "Straight Out of Compton". Weve never been asked in the past to do this in the many years weve frequented this establishment. One, this movie will not draw a very young crowd, as this appeals to those of us who grew up in the 80s; were adults and not interested in committing crimes. This movie had very little violence, and weve watched far more violent movies than this. We felt violated. Ive also never seen so many African Americans working the ticket entry and the concession stand. Did the theater somehow feel that by making a calculated effort to employ African American personnel to check bags/purses--that this would lessen the already blatant discriminatory atmosphere? No. It didnt. Everyone in line was quite aware of this tactic. Most shootings in theaters have been conducted by white males, not African Americans, and certainly NOT black women! If you want to heighten security--then do so universally. Check all who enter your establishment for weapons. After all, the last shooting happened during a comedy movie, with an all Caucasian cast, by a Caucasian male. Equality is all that Im asking. If Edwards Theater is this afraid of showing a movie, which after viewing the movie I dont see how this movie can spark any ill feelings, when this was a very uplifting movie about the rise, fall, and rise of a rap group, then I have a simple solution: dont show the movie. Period. Unfortunately, my husband and I are considering if we will ever return. Weve spend many weekends at this theater and I hope that if we decide to return again, I hope to see that weapon checks will be conducted for ALL movies with ALL patrons. Discrimination angers your patrons more than a movie ever can or ever will.

Its a movie theater. You give them money, they give you a ticket, you walk into a dark room full of strangers, they show you something and you leave. But what makes Edwards Greenway better than the rest of the theaters? It feels clean. Its not as clean as Sundance Cinemas but you are paying a few dollars less to have a similar clean feeling. The arcade, bar, and restaurant make the location even better to make your movie going experience extend into a night of drinking or gaming. But with every movie theater, theres some negatives which can cause the experience to turn sour. First the parking; they want you to pay to park in the garage. Thats all well and fine since its in a busy area of town where potentially 1000s of people may be watching movies. But they do not have a credit card machine to pay for parking. Many times you will get stuck waiting to get in because someone is trying to scrounge up change to pay the $3 fee only to have to get everyone to back up so that they can look for parking on the surrounding streets. Its possible but harder to find. Second, concessions can take forever. Im not sure if its really hard to put popcorn in a bucket and fill up a cup but it sure does take 15 minutes to serve 5 orders in front of me every time. Lastly, the escalators are always broken. Not a huge negative but it has not once been functional in the past couple of years that I have been going to this location

Harrows restaurant is gone. Marble Slab ice cream is the only place you can eat onsite before entering the theater, and you cannot bring the ice cream in. If you want to eat a meal, you have to enter the theater for high-priced microwaved junk food or go off-site which is about a leisurely 15 minute walking distance. There was a 10-minute wait for their $10 Digornios personal pizza. Parking is $3, $5 for VIP. I think it is cash only. There is limited free parking on the side streets around the theater. The arcade token machine was broken; the coins were stuck inside the machine. I was told by an employee that it is not owned by Edwards, so they couldnt help me. I couldnt find a person in charge of the arcade, so I stuck my fingers in the machine and managed to free up the coins. I never did find an arcade employee. $20 worth of tokens lasted about 20 minutes for two kids. The games looked new. The pool table and bar are gone. Overall, it was not the experience I was use to at Edwards. There are other movie theaters I can drive to that has better food, free parking, and cleaner theater seats and floors.

Even though the staff is nice and the appearance of the theater from the hallways and outside is nice the inner theater is horrible. Me and group of friends went here to see a movie and arrived a little before Showtime to get good seating. And had the most horrible time trying to find clean seats. The seats in this theater are filthy! We walked from row to row with flash lights trying to find semi decent looking seats to no avail. This theater should really consider getting new seats and cleaning the theaters out. There was old popcorn and candy and spilled drinks everywhere. The seats are stained and filled with dust and filth. We had on light colored clothing and was scared to sit in the seats. Needless to say it looks like a haven for bedbugs in this place and I will not be returning unless an upgrade takes place. Not to mention the strange moldy smell coming from inside the theaters...This is my 1st and last time coming here. This place needs a major overhaul and fast!

This is a very popular destination for moviegoers, due to its proximity to Greenway Plaza, River Oaks, West U, and the Galleria area. The theaters are nice, the seats are comfortable, and the building itself definitely gets you "in the spirit." There are plenty of amenities and getting past ticketing is a breeze, particularly if you have the tickets on your phone. Concession prices are high, but thats common in all theaters. That being said, parking can be pretty challenging during popular nights & movies, and the concession stands are too few in number to meet demand. For example, we recently went on Valentines Day, and arrived half an hour early...between waiting in line to enter the parking garage, finding a parking space, and waiting in line for the concessions, we ended up walking into our theater only moments before the movie itself started. If youre able & willing to come at a less-busy time, youll find the overall experience to be much more enjoyable.

Theres really no excuse for a movie theater in Houston to charge for parking, especially when its not downtown. (They must have figured, hey were already fleecing customers on ticket price & concessions-- why not parking too?) Do yourself a favor a go to an Alamo Drafthouse instead. -- I avoid this location like the plague, and the only reason I caught a flick there this decade was because in the weeks post-Hurricane Harvey the traffic & flooding was too bad for me to *get* to any other movie theater. Well, guess what, they still have the same BS setup as they did circa 2003, and it doesnt look like they have done any remodeling -- like almost every other theater around Houston has. The only change is the increased prices. So, congratulations, for failing in every category, charging for parking, AND not even attempting to clean the theaters between showings, you get 1 star.
